Is it just me, or is this very lacking compared to Fo3?

I have played fallout 1/2 and new vegas is completely different. In 1/2 you had reason to do things the main quest was life or death for a large group so thats emotional for you. So far its a good game, I restarted my 15 hour character in NV, (don't ask how I already have 15 with school.) I did that because I wanted to learn a little more at the start. Though I do regret giving up the finder...... (sighs) Oh well. Gotta agree with the cheapness of enemies I came over hill and their was literally 20 or more cazadors all chasing me, that's pretty much when I decied to restart. The story does get better the gear does get better. And hopefully the patches will fix the major stuff, and the DLC will add lotsa good stuff as well, (Darn you PCs and your mods.) The crafting system is terrible. I have like 90k lead, 500 primers of various types, 200 cases for 40-70 g'ovt, so whats the problem? Powder. That stuff is redicusouly rare I only had about 100 powder. So even though I had a ton of other stuff I could only craft a few bullets. I highly reccomend barter over repair for a tag slot. In 3 there were some tough fights but only if you didn't make god character. I think in NV they force you to make a mortal rather than allowing players to make the choice. Even in Fallout 1/2 my characters are very strong either through stong builds. (1) or through having 5 very strong companions. (2 since I played a talkie.) The story will draw you if you let you just have to decide where you loyalties lie and then let that carry you into the game.

i agree with the op on this one
i find the game boring
i have done sections 4, 1 and part of two, in about 20 plus hours
that means i have done the side quest and i now am in the strip
which is oddly enough divided by doors into 3 sections??
the only glitch i had was when i needed to do something important
no spoilers, and i fell through the object i was to ...
i fell thru over and over so i left it at that
now the npcs are reminding me of that- what ever

I HATE THE CRAFTING really really hate the pointless crafting
AND THE RADIO STATIONS...
they play the same song over and over, so i leave it off

I HATE the way you now level up and the skill or lack thereof

and vats no longer works
guns are useless... frustrating to say the least

i spent over 5 grand on games for myself and others just this year alone
so for those that love this game i too have a right to not like it

please Bethesda do not make a mess of your tes5 for leveling up.. do not do what this game does or i will not buy it

Obsidian... people like to max out their characters
you took that away
unless of course you have a computer/mods

fallout 3's map is way bigger, in this game they just put more stuff in
it feels too crowded

the best weapon is dynamite
as their guns are useless
just got the alien blaster with damage of 64
in fallout 3 it was twice that much
big difference

ps i finishe halo reach on legendary alone
challenging, but fun
this game justs frustrates me to death

well fable is coming out, still have halo and dead rising which is fun

i put in overr 500 hours or more into oblivion
made and completed over 20 characters
sorry this game is a one time playthrough

please do something about that stupid radio
or have more than two songs

Eh? I still got my ass handed to me at level 30 a number of times in FO3. Also, I am sure you have not attained a similarly high level and all of the best gear, so I think your comparison is disingenuos. :stare: (<----- supposed to be more "I am watching you! :toughninja:" than "I am angry at you", but it was the best I could find. More emoticons Bethesda!)
FO3 was a tad easy, and it only got more difficult after the Broken Steel DLC!....probably because beth figured it was to easy also!

I couldn't disagree with this more strongly. I hated, hated, hated the way every character ended up the same in Fallout 3. People that really like RPGs (that I know) do NOT like to max out their characters. That completely takes the "R" out of RPG for me. Loving the changes in NV!

It seems to me that most of the people who are having problems with Obsidian's changes are the people who were attracted to Fallout 3's FPS side. I guess Obsidian did something right.

only gripe I have with the game is that there aren't many dungeons with hostile NPC's to explore so I can rank up my character or I haven't gotten far enough in the game to find them. In FO3 I kind of liked going into abandoned buildings and not knowing what to expect around the corners. In NV I think I've run into 2 -- maybe 3 houses/buildings that had hostile npc's/monsters.

I guess all I can really say is thank god Obsidian & Bethesda are firm believers in community support and released SDK tools -- with that most of the things I dislike can be modded of fixed.

I wouldn't say lacking but different, that's a good thing...........I sum it up as a new book in the same series as the other FO's.

I think my assessment is right, it looks like all the hardcoe old school guys love NV while the FO3 fans arent that impressed. While I tend to think its too FO 1/2, I have to applaud Bethesda for taking a chance, most companies these days dont have the balls to go again the "Mainstream" and appease a niche audience.

I fell in love with the fallout franchise by getting FO3 and i have played FO 1 and 2 also, and personnly i believe New Vegas is a comfortably sitting in between the three

I am getting ready to go back to the game, But I want to say this.

I love New Vegas.

Its MUCH more like Fo 1/2 and Indeed reminds me of them often.

Each gun feels different, Mods for them are neat, I have a varmint rifle with a NV scope and a suppressor, its good for kill people, and small game, even better with HP (hollow point). but even with AP (armor piercing) Its too weak to crack a death claw or giant rad scorp.

I break out the .357 mag rifle (cowboy rifle) and use it with my custom hand loaded ammo and I do better against heavy armor.
5.56>..357 on unarmored targets
.357>5.56 against armor
.44 Is great as well, for hand cannon. I got JHP and normal for any situation. JHP = jacket hollow point. Its a hollow point round that has a "jacket" covering to help penetrate armor and then do damage.

10MM also has JHP.

More skill checks? WOW, I really like that.
Sneaking is useful, so is sniping.

ED-E is a wonder, and so is The NCR sniper you can get to follow you.

Faction likes and dislikes are great, First time I encountered the C-L I was impressed, shocked and angry. So i sided with the NCR who I had met earlier right then and there. Hated C-L, hunted them even. Destroyed them anywhere I find them.

Skills are more useful now, and used more often. Skill checks are everywhere!

I am really like N.V. IMO its what FO-3 should have been.

Well back to the game for me!

I like it so far. It actually took me awhile to fall in love with Fallout 3 unlike some. After awhile F03 became my favorite game of all time. I will say I liked the beginning of F03 more, walking out of 101 was epic, (just like walking out of the sewers in Oblivion was, hmnn) Anyhow I agree it's slow getting going but I am enjoying it. Something inside me feels like I'm just playing F03 DLC at times but then I'm only at 8hrs of gameplay.

Fallout 3 was way too easy when you first start. NV has a lot more going for it in terms of game play at least you don't start out overpowered like you could in FO3. Fallout 3 was so easy that I can't even remember seeing my character get crippled and when I saw my character limping in NW I was thinking about how cool that was. I'd suggest playing NV on hardcoe mode if you want the game to be challenging and fun because right now I'm having a blast with that mode enabled.

I love this game more than Fallout 3, despite my belief that Fallout 3 was better for exploration. Normally, I would take exploration over most things, but aside from exploration, almost everything about this game feels better than in Fallout 3. I did not care too much for the original Fallouts, either, so I must be a weirdo if New Vegas was meant to cater to the old fans. It's too good to be compared to all of its inferior predecessors, in my opinion. Excellent job, Obsidian!

It's funny, I feel the exact opposite. I feel the quests are much more compelling, the characters are much more interesting, and overall, this game has exceeded my expectations :celebration:

I tend to agree here, I am loving the fact I can't just run north and finish the game. I have to keep sticking to certain areas south to keep from being slaughtered. To me this makes the game feel much more old school, where I have to honestly work my way towards the better quests and items. I also love the new crafting system. Other areas the game are just to numerous to mention. I am loving FONV...... :goodjob:

Can't wait to see what kind of DLC will be coming for this one.

With Fallout 3 I was almost Uber at to low of levels, where I could kill just about anything. Example: I would head towards Rivet City at like level 4 or 5 and already beat the snot out of super mutants...YAWN!!! LOL

Been playing on my rommate's x-Box. Getting a GOtY for pc when the bugs are worked out. My impression so far is that it reminds me of when I first played morrowind. That lost where the heck do I go feeling. Nothing spelled out for me and that's a very cool feeling I haven't had since morrowind. Also there's a bit of an FO1/2 vibe as well. But that's probably due to the pedigree of the devs. They definitely need to have a hand in FO4 whether or not Beth decides to helm the project.

So far I'm really enjoying myself. Its been a blast to come back to Fallout and I liked that it uses the old engine but with "mods" tossed in. I didn't want to wait 3 years for them to develop a new engine for a new fallout game.

My beef is with the bugs. Obsidian didn't make any graphical improvements, so there's no reason why they couldn't polish this game up in time.

I loved Fallout 3 for it's great sense of exploring the Fallout world in first person and really "being" there. Granted, the writing was a bit...off. Fallout 1 and 2 had really great characters, dialogue, and the whole world made sense. There was a sense of political inrigue, some form of economy, trade, etc.

Fallout NV combines everything I liked about the previous 3 games and puts them in one game. What's to complain about?

Alright, so i know this is all opinion based, but i absolutely agree with the OP.But this is gonna be my rant.

This game has dropped the ball. First off, they present and tease you with a 'free roam' environment but then make you follow this 'linear' path or suffer the consequences. Why should i be punished because i want to look around?
Sure im not that far into the story yet, but im not that captivated by it. Im not pulled into it like FO3, the quests are nice but i want to roam and it's not possible, its like im forced to the linear game plot.

Another thing is the weapons, where are the bad-a** weapons? Yet again im not that far into the game, but really? im supposed to survive on a 9mm and the 10mm i got with my DLC? seriously?

Leveling up is hard unless you do follow the story quest, trying to find creatures that are decent to kill is a little difficult. Trying to roam around and find creatures and get experience is tasking because if i stumble upon the wrong thing that's it, boom im dead and reloading and just skipping that whole area all together until i level up. its like a vicious circle!

Theres a lot to look through but i have to watch my karma. If no one is there or i just took them out, its still bad karma to take anything. Don't get me wrong there are plenty containers out there that don't effect your karma with valuable items that can be taken but what do i do with what i want to keep. Nothing because i dont have housing yet,im hoping that there will be a permanent house. So everything so far i've sold, that makes me sad because i dont like to sell things.

I think overall im not sure i love this like i thought i would. I might have gotten to hyped up about the game, but hoping it gets better as i play. There are aspects of the game that are very nice add-ins and improvements.

So far this game sees very flat and to complex in various areas. Why change what worked in FO3? We do not need vaults but this over top cowboy theme in the beginning svcks.

and vats no longer works
guns are useless... frustrating to say the least

I keep telling people this isn't true. Go start a new game in FO3. If you can, play it side-by-side with a new game in FNV and use similar weapons on similar characters. Try to use VATS on both. I almost guarantee the difference between them will be negligible. They toned it down, sure, but not to the point of making it useless. I honestly think that people who think VATS is useless now have forgotten what VATS was like at the start of FO3 (i.e., questionable at best, useless at worst), and expect it to be pseudo-God Mode like it was near the end. That needed to be toned down anyway, by the way.

the best weapon is dynamite
as their guns are useless
just got the alien blaster with damage of 64
in fallout 3 it was twice that much
big difference

Yeah, there is a big difference. But, uh, in the opposite direction. The Alien Blaster's DPS in New Vegas is almost 100 points higher than it was in Fallout 3.

So far this game sees very flat and to complex in various areas. Why change what worked in FO3? We do not need vaults but this over top cowboy theme in the beginning svcks.

The game is set in an entirely different geographical area with an entirely separate subculture. Transposing the Capital Wasteland into the Mojave Desert would, first of all, make no sense, and second of all, be exactly what people are already complaining about (i.e. FNV is apparently the exact same as FO3 with different characters and story).

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to say the thing I actually came here to say. :P The one thing I don't like in this game so far is the way groups of human enemies just wander around aimlessly in circles. Maybe I'm just misremembering, but they didn't do this quite as much in FO3; at least they would patrol houses or buildings or something like that. Here they'll just be a group in the middle of some random plains and wander constantly around a small area. It looks very fake.

I agree with you 100 percent. There are too many characters you talk to who tell you or do nothing of importance. I find its less about fighting and more about doing tasks for people which i find very tedious, and i feel exactly the same about going through the motions.

I really don't care for the NV. I personally play western RPG's for the exploration and not the story. But, if I were to play for the story NV would surely not hold my attention. IMO even FO3's story is better. FO3's story was pretty bad but this one takes the cake. And since I play these kind of open world RPG's for exploration I am very disappointed. In short, the map svcks. The wasteland is very uninteresting. Vegas itself is not what I expected it to be. Every casino is the same with a different paint job basically. I just cannot reiterate enough how boring the map is. I had over 300 hours in FO3 and I didn't fast travel once. Walking was fun in that game because the environment was cool. I only have 10 hours played in NV and I fast travel any chance I get. This will be a game where I get as many trophies as possible in one playthrough and then immediately trade it in. Hopefully I can finish this POS in a week and still get $35 from gamestop.
