Queen for two reasons : (1) the Gaiman - Pratchett Law of the Universe
(2) Their Highlander theme songs

Oh wow.....imo you can't even compare these two groups. They're just too different - musically, stylistically, artistically, all of that. Too different.

I grew up listening to a lot of the Beatles & loved them. An all-time fave for pop music. At this point I still love them but most of the time I don't have a desire to listen to most of their music, especially the earlier stuff - I have to be in a certain mood. The exceptions are Rocky Raccoon & Bungalow Bill from the White Album and a few other songs here and there (Day In the Life, Let It Be, etc) that I could listen to forever. Both Lennon & McCartney as solo acts never captured my attention, tho.

In my early 20's I listened to Queen a lot & I consider them one of my fave all time bands. I didn't love every single one of their songs, but Freddie was amazing. They're more for listening to while driving fast up a mountain road, for me. :)

Queen without a doubt. They're overrated imo, but I do like a lot of their music, and no one can deny that they were very talented musicians. The Beatles on the other hand are probably the most overrated band of all time. I grew up listening to the Beatles and remember loving them then, but now I cannot see what for. They made lots of catchy songs, sure, but so do the pvssycat Dolls. I don't find their music to have anything special whatsoever.

Not really a big fan of either, but I hate the Beatles, so Queen.

I think Queen svcked for less time in their career than the Beatles, their first couple of albums were pretty average (with Love me Do and the like)

Not a fan of Queen. They were basically a good pub rock band, they wrote catchy songs that were easy to sing along to.

Isn't that what makes a good song? Anyway, all 4 of Queen's members wrote hits, quite a rarity in a band. I also agree that Brian May is very underrated as a guitarist, and Freddie Mercury was well.... a frontman who could take an audience into the palm of his hand.

It might also suprise people to know that Queen's live shows were pretty hard rock.

I thought Love me Do was amazing, however some of their early song are quite annoying (Can't buy me love etc.), but some of the early stuff is incredible (see I Want To Hold Your Hand, Twist & Shout, Rock & Roll Music, Do You Want To Know A Secret, All My Loving etc.). However I find stuff such as Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, All You Need Is Love, With A Little Help From My Friends to be the best.

As for which is better, in terms of raw goodness, it is most definitely the Beatles. I find queen to be average, however Bicycle is a really good song.

Eh? Where did you hear that? They're quite popular and have been in all the circles I ran/run in for all my life.

edit: I think they didn't sell well in the US initially, when they very first tried to break into this market. Not 100% sure on that tho...music history isn't my forte.

Oh boy if I wasn't on a phone right now, I'd be linking a video of J.K. Simmons laughing and saying "You Serious?" :P

Y U NO HAVE EASY CHOICE?!

Hmm... The http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0714IbwC3HA or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZjjsrn9FY4? Tough choice. Don't forget that the Beatles were first and pioneered a lot of things that modern music takes for granted. So most things about them that you may find "meh" were quite awesome at the time.

And as for Queen, I tend listen to them more often, if only because I listed to my Beatles CD so much that I simply got tired of it.

New question: The Beatles compared to The Beach boys?

Try looking past the music an into the more technical side. How the music seemed back then, not as compared to what came after.

Beatles no contest on that one.
I can't stand the Beach Boys and have never bought an album...altho I'll admit to occasionally tapping my foot to "Wouldn't It Be Nice" & "Good Vibration" when in a state of non-sobriety.

I don't care for the music myself, but I am interested in the Techniques that they created that later bands like The Beatles used.

Hmm, I tend to judge music by what I think of it, and based on that I'd say the Beatles. I wouldnt really know how to compare them from a technical standpoint.

The kinks or the Beatles?

Don't know anything about that, I'm just basing it on sound/songs/emotion. For music with similar sound (perhaps) I much preferred bands like Mama's & the Papa's or Grass Roots. Could I say why? Not really. Only that to my ears Beachboys feels like nails on a chalkboard, the latter two don't. *shrug*

Never listed to the Kinks, so I couldn't say.

And this is apparently an "[Insert Band Here] Compared to The Beatles" thread now. I blame myself.

How about a slightly different question: If you could choose to be in a room with any Member of either Queen or The Beatles at the height of their fame, who would it be?
