So lock picking only way to open chest now ?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:57 pm

What about us warrior types? We get nothing! (Case and point, you can't always get what you want). :spotted owl:
Why take away something they had in previous games? They already took levitation. I do think that warriors should have a bash skill or better yet why does everything have to be locked? Every boss chest should have a key or not be locked.

Was under the impression that were confirmed by someone who had been playing the game/watching leaked footage... Oh well, looks like I'm levelling lock picking up as well then :)

The only time I ever used an Open Lock spell is when I needed to quickly train up my Alteration.

This is ridiculous. They took out Open Lock, they took out Levitation; are they gonna take out Water breathing, Water walking, and the other Alteration spells now?

This is just stupid. I mean its not even an issue of skill because I was a freaking master of lockpicking (Fallout style, and Oblivion style). But I actually liked to have the option of not leveling those skills, and just sticking with Alteration.

Some people enjoy playing the hard way instead of cheating.

Lol so saving your game is cheating now

hmmm I started a topic a while ago and people mostly have the perception that it isn't cheating.

Na, its cheap. Lets not try to pretend its not. However it is a single player game, so if you don't mind the smell of cheese, go for it.

I thought the opposite was confirmed. if not this is actually a decision I agree was stupid. Personally I would have both warrior lock bashing and open spells but make both alert nearby enemies bashing more so.

I actually don't lend this much credence because it would make a single skill pretty much indepensible and that's pretty opposite of the stated "play as you want"( play as a mage or any thing not thiefly well too bad you still have to improve your lockpicking) as well as getting rid of something thats worked fine in two other games.

Don't we all know levitation got taken out because it breaks levels, cells, and most of the quests. Why are we bringing it up here? Invalid comparison.

Is this spell(open lock) really gone? I know the game is leaked at this point, are these sources contributing a yay or nay?

It was suggested that open lock spells were in by one or two people in this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1252303-open-lock-spells-could-they-be-out/

In such a short time, it would be difficult to conclusively confirm the absence of something, so I'm going to remain optimistic and trust those who say these spells are in.

Right, Open Locks and Levitation are not even in the same ballpark. Open Locks was just bad design - one spell effect invalidating a whole skill! It should have never worked on anything beyond average locks, if that. If it is gone, then I say good riddance. People can always take the Tower Stone in Skyrim. .If you want to get maximum treasure, it is only fair that you have to work for it. Alteration is still amazingly useful.

Oh, and I am all for bashing - as long as the best treasure is in metal/stone chests that can't be bashed and as long as it breaks breakable treasure such as potions, soul gems, books, etc. And as as long as it alerts all enemies/citizens/guards in the vicinity.

Levitation, OTOH, is a genuine loss, because there is no way to replicate what it offered. No skill, no effect, nothing.

That may be for the best I think, as I was also under the impression that they were confirmed to be in...

lolz @ "kicking a container should break a book". Though the rest...I agree with (kinda-sorta). :homestar:

What? So no "open lock" spells. This is bull; time to put my Alteration perks into other things.
Yep, confirmed. The Tower gives the the choice to unlock expert or lower locks automatically.

I don't know what this means.

If they are removed I can understand why from a gameplay point. Why raise Security when you could raise Alteration which opens locks AND does many other useful things like Feather.

We still don't have a source so calm down... mods can remake "open lock" spells so even if this is true no worries.

Oh and don't forget the skeleton key.

Obviously just an outline if you want to play a pure class. But he has sort of confirmed that the open lock spell is in. I might be wrong I don't know, and sorry I can't remember what thread this was on. :(

In the Skyrim gameplay video after using the ethereal shout to get past the whiring blade didn't she open the door with a spell?

I like it. Unlocking locks without a key has always been seen as a thief/stealth character trait. Open Lock spells gave the ability for mages to effortlessly unlock them and left warriors completely in the cold. Now locks are among the thief/stealth traits exclusively, which makes sense, particularly since you can mix'n'match skills as you want. If you want to open locks without keys, go for the lockpicking skill. Why should Alteration (or spell scrolls) give you the same thing for less hassle?
