Lunches you absolutely cannot do without:

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 5:35 pm

As a life time gamer (mainly PC and older consoles, if I can help it), I've pretty much had the exact same lunches since I was about 10. Of course some new and exciting things have come along since then, but the core items remain, and with an addiction to salt and Texas Pete (and black pepper), most all of my lunches are high sodium + added salt, loads of Texas Pete, and covered in pepper. I cannot go many lunches without consuming any of the following items, and I typically just cycle through them in an infinite loop...

1. Castleberry's Beef Stew (canned): This is my all time favorite lunch, because it truly eats like a meal. (cooked on the stove, comes in 1 1/2 lb or 2 1/2 lb)
2. Beefaroni: amazing and cheap (stove if in can, or get the Chef boyardee brand microwave kind for twice the price)
3. Ballpark Angus Beef hotdogs: Cooked in the toaster oven and served with Horseradish Mustard (best mustard ever)
4. Tostinos cheap ass pizza with the cubed pepperonis. Addictive. (oven)
5. Maruchan brand Oriental Ramen! (stove, usually 2 packets of flavor for every 1 1/2 pack of noodles)
6. State Fair beef corn dogs! (2, 3 max in toaster oven with horseradish mustard to dip in)
7. Tostinos pizza rolls! (pepperoni only, toaster oven only, sometimes dipped in ranch if I want to feel like an American)
8. Thin sliced roast beef on whole wheat toast, mayonaise, horseradish mustard, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese! (usually burns coming out)

I've also started drinking a cup of hot tea every day for the past 2 months, and I always eat a Little Debbi strawberry shortcake roll or blueberry roll with it. Amazing stuff right here.

What are you guys eating for lunches (single serving meals between meals) and what would you recommend to a fellow forum goer?

Edit: Oh yeah, and Jimmy Dean microwavable sausage biscuits with Texas Pete all over them is amazing.

Can't beat good ol' '_____ on toast'.

Cheese, beans, whatever, it's all good.

Is that the same thing as [censored] on a shingle? shingle being the toast...

I pack my own lunch for work four times a week - once a week I buy something different for lunch.

My usual lunch is a sandwiche of some sort - usually wholewheat bread with rocket lettuce, ham or chicken, tomato, red cheddar, and coleslaw. The one day a week I buy lunch, it's usually sushi or an especially nice, freshly made sandwich. Once in a while I'll get pizza.

There's a truckstop run by Indian guys up the street from my house and they make the best roast beef sandwich I've ever had, I eat one virtually every day. I know a 'truckstop sandwich' doesn't sound very appetizing but these are handmade and they're amazing.

Sweet Jebus. I hope you have health insurance with all that sodium you're consuming. :P

For me it's usually something I made (or something my girlfriend made). Today it's my latest batch of chili (I make some delicious chili). Once or twice a week I hit a local restaurant near work with some co-workers.

However much sodium I told you, it's really twice that. And if I admit to twice that, well, it's three times actually.

I had health insurance but I canceled it for a refund and bought this new computer. I told my mom not to claim my corpse when I die.

My mom used to make this lunchmeat turkey and provolone cheese sub sandwich for my packed lunch every day. I can't say I can't do without it though, since after four years of having it almost every day, I sort of got tired of it.

Now that I don't pay for a meal plan at college, I go to Subway once or twice a week and get a pretty awesome sub of my own invention.
  • Turkey and ham, not toasted
  • 9-grain oat bread, sometimes herbs and cheese instead
  • Pepper jack cheese
  • Lettuce, spinach, black olives, sometimes cucumber
  • Chipotle dressing, sometimes honey mustard instead
It hasn't gotten old yet, so it must be okay.

When I don't get Subway, I either order something from a chinese place nearby or just eat cereal.

4 months ago I hadn't had Chinese food in about a 2 year period, so I ordered 55 dollars worth to be delivered and I ate literally as much as I could of it every meal for 3 days.

Recently, I've gotten into Caprese Sandwiches. Similar to the salads, if you're familiar, but on fresh bread. They sound fancy, but are very easy and relatively cheap to make and taste amazing:

Fresh mozarella (this is important: no boring slices)
Fresh basil (not dried or flakes)
Fresh Tomatos (as opposed to say...unfresh tomatoes?)
Balsalmic Vinegrette
Salt and Pepper, to taste.

*Epic*.

What makes no sense is slandering the health benefits that a healthy intake of finest lard can bring!

I'm not a huge lunch person to be honest. I love a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, or chicken soup. Sometimes I'll just have a protein shake and piece of toast with peanut butter or something.

My favourite lunch would be a chicken, ham and mayonnaise baguette. All fresh, but that's normally on weekends.

Some sort of pizza pocket like food would be best for a gamer. Its very easy and quick to make and requires only one hand to eat it.

My favourite lunch though is salmon mixed with (Hellman's) mayo in a sandwich.

Yeah that isn't bad. I'm a Duke's mayonnaise man myself though. It tastes a little saltier.

I haven't tried Duke's, though I'd recommend staying away from Miracle Whip. That stuff could be used to fake tuberculosis.

OMG miracle whip is foul. So is "Salad Dressing". (Sold in same mayonnaise type container and looks similar.)

If it doesn't say on the Nutrition Facts label: Calories 100; Calories from fat 100, I'm not eating it.
