Mass Effect #57

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:23 am

This is why I buy all my games on console. Don't have the chance something with steam or the computer will mess up.

Well, as it turned out, there was zero problem, found all five of my ME2 game saves... so I am rolling. I just have to restart - I messed with my characters face, thought it looked good, but in game, it look meh. Yeah, I am that much of a dork.

I wonder how long ME3 is? Anyone know?

I've heard estimates of around 26 to 40 hours.

I have a question. I didn't keep up with all the hoopla going on about the Day 1 DLC.....what is it? Is it the Ashes Fallen or whatever?

B/c I got mine last night at midnight and I went to Origin to download it and it says I have to pay.

Forgive me....I'm usually not interested in DLC but for some reason now I want it.

Edit: wait the all the fuss was that the Day 1 DLC was on day 1....sigh....i need rest.

It adds a prothean squad-mate, so IMO its definitely worth it

They probably have cameos if they survived the suicide mission

It doesn't look like I will be playing anytime soon, if ever. They were having problems with my order. I recieved an email today at 3PM. I was hoping it was a notification of the thing being shipped. WRONG. I called CS and was speaking to a girl about getting things straight. During the conversationshe puts me on hold and comes back to inform me that the product is no longer available.

ME : WHAT do you mean, no longer available!? I ordered it back in 09 of 2011. There was an order number for it.

She canceled my order and tried to reorder it. She was only tryong to help, but i gave NO authorization to try to do that. Now I am screwed..

No preorder bonus and no CE material.

I was going to just go out and buy a standard copy, but I would not feel the same playing it. Then again I can picture her being all of the Cerbs and take out a little frustration.

The place I got my CE from also has a history of suddenly declaring that the product is no longer available and shutting down the order without asking me. If they do this I'll probably just get the Digital Deluxe edition, though I may file enough complaints so I get some pre-order bonuses since money is not a problem here.

For anyone wondering about your previous squadmates. Some minor spoilers.

Spoiler
I meet Thane who is at the end of his life but still a badass as always. I also ran into Miranda who seems to be on the run and looking for her sister again. Neither seem like they will be joining me later on.

It also get far less linear once you get past Pavelan's moon. I've also noticed some more choices in dialogue.

I've noticed this too. I've barely touched the main quest after Palaven and I've been marathoning the game ever since I got home.

Is it just me, or does it take ALOT more bullets to kill than in the MP demo?

Also, what troll in Bethesda decided to make the Banshee?

I actually encountered an annoying bug on Palvan's moon. After I finished the turret section it's suppose to cut to a scene where an enemy is dropped down, however that didn't happen and I somehow fell off the platform and fell through the terran and died. I reloaded the autosave and everything worked out fine but that was a definite annoyance. I couldn't imagine if that were to happened on Insanity.

Definitely opens up after Palvan's moon, I had to take a break from the overload of sidequests that I got, most if not all the non fetch side quests were well done.

I'm really enjoying the sidequests so far, especially the DLC Javik is a beast.

My problem with what I've played so far (the demo only) is that it's so patronising and cheap. A kid dies, who has no backstory and is obviously a rather transparent (tautology be damned) writer's ploy to ellicit grief or anger from the player dies. Boo-effing-hoo.
From a game series that dealt with racism, class, mortality and population control, that dived fearlessly into the ethics surround each, I find it profoundly disheartening to see the demo is nothing more than a gears of war clone with horribly cheesy dialogue. It seems the new Vegas guy looks like he's been ripped off that "Jersey Shore" some Americans watch and stuck rather ham-handedly into this game. He seems to have the depth of a puddle of gnat's piss, although I can't really judge having not played the full game.

Are my worries justified? Is the game like the demo? A 2.8 average rating on the metacritic of the PC version seem to say "yes".

There I highlighted everything you said that matters.

No, you don't have to worry, the demo is not what the majority of the game is like. Sure the first two hours or so are combat heavy and lack any real RPG elements but it picks up after that. I don't know if the series can get back on par with the first ME but from what I've played the game is very good.Don't take the Metacritic reviews seriously, that site has some real issues.

What? I'm only asking if the game is like the abomination released as a demo.

Thanks for your reply, I'll wait for a while until I get ME3 if I do at all. Certainly the "dead kid" card being played recently in many games put me off quite a bit, maybe disproportionately so. I suppose they have to cater to dullards who need emotional cue cards to stay afloat. I suppose It's a question of how much that can be justified.

I wouldn't call myself an RPG purist either, it's just what I've seen smacks of dumbing down. Thanks for your input.
