Mass Effect #57

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:07 am

If you're playing on any difficulty higher than Normal, don't bother playing an Adept. Most of their abilities require the enemy to be naked, and on higher difficulties, most have at least one form of defense up, like armor, shields, or barriers.

I'd also advise against playing as a Vanguard for your first run. Depending on who you are, they could end up as awesome but impractical, or difficult but awesome; either way, they're not a good class for a beginner.

In my experience in Mass Effect first I play normal then in my second play through I go one level up. I think its hard because all your points carries over from your first play through.
In Mess Effect 2 in my first play through, I play on normal no matter what class. Then on my second play though I go on hard which is two levels up from normal. The game shines on hard and upwards.

In my games for Mass Effect 2 carries over from Mess Effect. Most of the time I don't change classes or my character looks.
I cannot wait for ME3 it looks good. I wait and see.

It's really dividing people on the Bioware forums. Some are playing 2 hours and saying it's so bad they can't go on, others are saying they stopped before the last mission because they literally can't bear the thought of the series ending.

Personally I just love it - really really enjoy your first playthrough.

Heh...hehe.....heheheheh....

Spoiler
you say that now......I hope you post your impressions after you beat the game.

I am not going into that forum because of spoils. I have a rough idea what is going on in that forum. When ME2 came when I read those post so long ago, oh god, I felt like well .... I don't know.

You get it all the time. Look what happened in Oblivion and later Skyrim.

Its going to happen two to three years time in this forum when FO4 comes.

It happens. Sorry going a bit off topic.

I'm a sad panda. Everyone seems to have a really cool weapon from the 60K multiplayer pack and the only one I bought I got some Geth shotgun or something. I hate it. It has to charge to be worth a dam and theres almost no ammo for it.

I'm spending all my money on the 20K package in hopes I can get some decent weapons to help my teams on silver....b/c as of right now I'm always dead last.

I hear lots of people not getting their Collectors' Editions because they didn't preorder their game two years ago. I'm fairly confident I'll meet this same fate. I don't know what to do about it though, if I don't get CE I can just get Digital Deluxe but then I suppose I won't have access to pre-orde bonuses which I should have right to since money is not a problem here - the site where I ordered CE from says the delivery is one the way. But I'm skeptical. I don't believe in luck or fate but it seems when I get excited about something, it fails.

That sounds like the Arc Pistol that I pulled in a Specter pack yesterday morning. Honestly, don't give up just yet on the Specter Packs - since you'r guarenteed a rare, it makes getting certain guns alot easier as well as character classes and training pulled through 1 is 100,000xp.

So for me it's down to one question. If I just buy the game, and don't pay cold, hard cash for any extras, and don't go on line (I can't stand multiplayer gaming, for me it's a solo thing, if I want to play with others there are footie and rugby pitches a short walk away), is it worth playing? Or will I feel short changed? Can you solo the multiplayer maps off-line?

Edit : yes, that's three or four questions, but they all add up to the same thing. Oooops.

Well I don't see myself playing much multiplayer but from what I've heard (spoilers for the end of the game...)
Spoiler
It's definitely possible to gain the most war points to get the 'best' ending without DLC/multiplayer - it just means you have to do EVERY side quest and make the best decisions at critical moments

So yes I think you'll still get a lot out of it.

Cool, thanks. I'm a do every quest, search every corner, 100% paragon type of player anyway. Maybe my sentinel will get to the end of her story after all. Whatever I think of the business practice/EA related shenanigans, my 17 year old got the demo, so I am under pressure to shell out regardless.

But....but....what about being an overachiever? I think It's just a better option to get the DLC and play the MP if possible. Yes, there's bells and whistles that come with the extra character, but even the slight addition to the story is worth it IMO. I guess that's my inner Japanese appreciation coming out. As for the multiplayer - unless you don't have internet, why not play it? Its comparable to - if not better, than Gears of War Horde Mode.

I mean yea, I'm sure a standalone experience will be enjoyable, but there's always that "what if?". For me that's with Mass Effect 2. Up until 3 days ago, all I had for it was the 0 MSP DLC from Cerberus Network. Then a friend of mine decided to give me a belated B-Day gift of a 3-Month of Gold and 2 1600 MSP. I used it to buy All of the Mission DLCs (and spent the last of it on the Knights / Trinity of Elements decks for Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012).

The point of the above was that before I myself had all of the DLC, I had the really big "What If?" looming overhead, which made me not want to begin playing it, due to probably missing out on story. And now I'm a happy panda......playing a Soldier who thinks he's Snip3down.

That's the other thing. I really have to get Arrival and Shadow Broker first. I had kind of written the series off, being a [really devoted fan] of the first game, but if I am going to finish it, and completely at that, I already have other stuff to pay for before getting 3. Good job my New Vegas Ultimate comes today; decisions, decisions can be held off for a while.

I don't think holding parts of the story ransom should be met with financial reward, I think it should be met with a boycott.

That sir, sounds like procrastination. Thats all well and good, but don't let your games sit there for 6 months like I did ME2. It tends to lead to akward game conversations with friends when the best reason you got is "Tales of Vesperia, Resident Evil 4 HD and Call of Duty Black Ops (emphasis on that last one...)".

the dlc just gives you another
character as a companion
took all of 15 minutes to get to him.. but it came with the collectors so i paid for it
and my robot dog.. which seems useless
i have no problem getting a freebie if i 'pay' lol for it
most who are complaing are making much ado about nothing
last game that gave people a character also for buying the game new
this time they added it to their collectors edition

It's really your decision. I'd recommend playing as a soldier. You'll get to adjust to how the game works. You'll be able to decide what class you want to play as next playthrough because you get to see how your teammates work through their classes.

and adrenaline rush is an absolute life saver. Especially on insanity

Here's the official word on endings and multiplayer (no spoilers): http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9665384.

In short, by playing MP you need less War Assets, but there are more than enough of those Assets to gain the best ending by playing only single player.

I think the people who are complaining about the early part of the game just need to keep playing as it gets back to the old ME style after a short time. Right now I love it. From what I hear the endings are great, unlike ME2 which was my major problem with that game. The sidequest are wonderful, so much so that I've hardly touched the critical path.

Oh I agree. Its like every single game ever - there are going to be people who hate it and they're always the most vocal. I know what the endings are and while they're not how I would personally like the series to end, I understand that it's Bioware's game and they can write whatever they like. There's such a huge difference between 'I don't like this' and 'this is bad' and sadly too many people are saying the latter.

I'd suggest sentinel. It's the easiest. Also, it's cool. You get holo-armour!

In terms of classes I'm really regretting assigning my FemShep as a Vanguard this time round. She's always been a soldier up to now but for some reason I wanted to change it. I like the perks it gives but for some reason her being referred to a biotec is kinda weird. Considering up til now she's just been a regular human. Blargh. :(

So what is everyone's favorite weapon loadout for their party. I found that 3 party members each with a Prothean Particle weapon is ridiculously overpowered. All of them firing on a brute at once takes it down in no time, and this is on hardcoe.

This waiting is ridiculous. All this waiting for something I don't even know I will get.

Why Europe always gets the cool stuff a few days later than everyone else? This is ridiculous rubbish racist communist conspiracy crap.

EDIT: My order has been updated... From "Not delivered" to "Products are being packaged". Could this be.. Could this be that I actually get Mass Effect 3 Collectors Editions on schedule for a good price (82€ total) with no witchcraft, delays or other that needed?

HERE I COME; REAPERS.

I've been going in with a combination of Garrus, Liara, and Javik. armed to the teeth with upgraded Prothean Particle rifles.

On a side note, has anyone else found General Tullius?
