Mass Effect Thread #53

The Cerberus troopers sound hilarious. Like fat bus terminal works on the P.A system. Or like the garbled radios taxi's use. It's less menacing army and more cheesed off metropolitan workers. Ie city workers on minimum wage. Hahahah.

I kind of agree with that. I really hope it's just a placeholder from whatever beta build the demo came from. What was wrong with just giving them normal voices?

Warp singlauirty spam, warp singlauirty spam, warp singularity spam. Hahahah! I think I'm going more insane than I could possibly imagine. I've been doing the same [censored] for two games now. And now they nerf me more in the demo with insane cooldowns and no special weapons skills. Why do they hate the Adept so? I know its the demo, and the build is biased towards soldier. But [censored], please let it not be this way in game.

None of my powers will cast when I want them to. Is this a beta or alpha? Wtf am I playing? Where is the usual high quality polish I'm used to Bioware? I mean I might not like the changes, but I expect what you've done to WORK.

Edit
Pin point shotgun blast from the other side of the map keeps killing me. Way outside of a shotguns optimal range.

I'm beginning to wonder if we're even playing the same demo. I've had none of these problems. Try plugging in a controller if you have one, maybe? That might at least solve the control issues.

When I shoot while in cover it often times gets stuck and shoots the wall with the camera point blank to my face. Making me waste precious ammo and time. Cover doesn't work 50% of the time. Your better off strafe running than sitting your ass around with the 50k enemies who have weapons that can shoot over or around cover. Or spawn in advantageous positions.

Finally beat the demo on insanity, the combat is wonky. Mass Effect 2's is 100% more responsive, less glitch cover system to. I blame it entirely on the rolling. I want to run, but this thing seems to INSIST I roll everywhere. Melee attack as an Adept is useless on insanity, don't even bother. I thought to one hit kill someone and took a good hit to my life for the "tactical" advantage. It barely took him down a quarter of his health. Some random mook. Gimmick at best on higher difficulty levels, but more often than not totally useless. Unless you want to bash around the last enemy hilariously with the weak melee attack. The new "rolling" and "melee" system only add a cumbersome and seldom useful layer on top of the existing cover system. The distance a roll covers is soo negligible. I would rather get out of cover and sprint at mach 2 than try and roll my way out. The game however disagrees with me and thinks the best thing to do is roll around like some [censored] clubbed seal. I feel like I'm playing in some kind of handicap mode. You know what the problem is? Rolling isn't its own button alongside the old controls. It simply replaces getting up and running from ME2. So getting out of cover is unintentionally slower and more cumbersome then ever. Rolling seems to never get me far enough from a grenade since the levels are all close quarters garbles. You just roll sticking to other pieces of cover. If they had just caved in instead of relying on the A for AWESOME button thought train and gave roll its own button I think 85% of my complaints would vanish.

Biotic powers are more usefull, but in the demo they aren't. This is because of the new weight system. The more weapons the longer the cooldown, there's no way to pick how many or what guns you want. So they give you 4 as any class, this nerfs all the caster classes. This complaint is strictly for the demo. I know for a fact you can carry only one gun if you want in the main game and it will lower cooldowns greatly.

Went over to the Bioware forums last night.....never again. :cold:

Honestly didn't realise how 'sadate' this place was compared to some others.

But I played the first part of the demo and while it was decent, I wasn't blown away. The combat was awkward - Shep kept rolling/taking cover when I just wanted her to sprint. That might have been mainly because I was in a situation though with a lot of close quarter cover? I went over to the Bioware Forums to get some um...hardcoe? fan feedback and the general consensus is that the CC is limited just now and will be expanded in the full version. Might account for inconsistencies in the look of Shep between games...

I did realise how much I missed Kaidan though... :wub:

Maybe you haven't seen this: a comparison of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wqAp-fmorM&feature=related.

The 360 looks pretty good, but it's a bit washed out and unrealistic. The PS3 looks more realistic, but in some places this creates eyesores. Click the link to see what I mean.

If you're buying it for a console, and you have the option of deciding between the two, I'd suggest you choose the 360. The games seem to've been made with that console in mind.

I didn't play demo, but apparently you can't holster your weapon in the combat zone anymore...

In ME2 I really hated how my Femshep takes up half the screen and looks [censored] with her pistol drawn and how Miranda points her pistol at me everytime I look at her, so I holstered the weapons all the time.

And now I can't...This also means I can't rotate her anymore to check up stuff, look around or just see how incredibly hot she is. Really underwhelming.

Also, are there any moderators on Bioware forums? There's one sad loser that keeps bashing Skyrim in ME3 forum in every topic with completely off-topic posts and nothing is done about it. He is probably from here actually, since he sounds like bitter MW fan...

Well that makes sense since Mass Effect was originally a 360 exclusive.

And here I was thinking that it was a nifty, actually *new* feature that I haven't seen in gaming before. Let people tailor the game to their preference, thereby allowing more people to experience the story/setting/etc (and, of course, buy your game).

Seems pretty cool - all the previous fans can play the "normal" game (which seems to be improved from ME2, at least for the "it's not an RPG anymore" whiners), story fans can just ignore that whole "shooter" thing, and shooter fans can try the game in that style.

What's not to like?

The Action - Story thing are just presets. You can at any time toggle on/off the dialog choices. Or adjust the difficulty. The only thing different form ME2 is the ability to turn the dialog off. Players that select the "Story" mode just go into the game as "Normal', but the difficulty is default to casual.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I played the whole thing, finally. Still have mixed emotions. I want to be excited about it but I have been set back and it is hard to get in step with it again. I agree with you guys about the combat.
I want to run - Shep rolls
I want to get out of cover - Shep rolls
I want to activate a station - Shep takes cover
I want to roll - Shep runs
I want to take cover - Shep activates a station
All of this is because these actions are controlled by THE SAME BUTTON. Maybe I will find a median for this. When I move to PC maybe there is a way to mod those actions to different keys? Maybe?
Again, I really hope this is NOT the actual start of the full version. Alas I feel it is, the same as DA2.
As far as the Bioware Social....I really don't get it. Yes, the developers get involved in discussions, and even start threads, but they are not moderated properly. The forum is flooded with psychopaths. It's like having a discussion with 500 Gamgees :biggrin: ( Sorry, that was a joke. I just couldn't help myself. I don't really feel that...way.)
Something else I meant to ask - is the demo the final product? The thing that really stood out to me was how badly 'aligned' the mouth movement was with the voices. Distractingly so in fact.
For me, I will assume that the control issues that make you roll and take cover repeatedly will be solved through the normal learning curve. We are still trying to play it based on how we played ME2. It is different and it will take some playing time to get used to it. I had the same problem going from ME1 to ME2. But it didn't take long before I was able to navigate ME2 effectively. So I let the control issues slide.
I am begging the developers though to at least allow the FOV to be changed for the PC version. I don't know how playable it will be with it set so low.
The lipsink was terrible. I felt like I was watching an old 70s Kung-Fu voice over. The holster thing is still bugging me. There are others. But I understand it to be the final. The game has gone gold...has it not?
re: rolling
Guess I need to play the demo again, I don't recall having any real problems with the rolling like some people are mentioning. (This is PC version, btw. Oh, yeah - and Infiltrator, in case that makes a difference.)
Hmm. Who knows, maybe it's because I'm playing KoA right now, and have been getting lots of practice at split-second-spacebar-to-dodge. :tongue:
Now your beginning to understand. I've been to places far worse than the Bioware forums. Coming back here is stressful and relaxing at the same time. Relaxing because of it's quaint ways. Stressful because I can't use normally barbaric ways of forum combat, I have to be more civil.
Also I played KoA, it had fantastic rolling. Why? Because it isn't tied to the awesome button that does like 4 different things.
Someone did a break down anolysis of what's going on. You need to stop pressing movement keys. Then space to leave cover, and then start sprinting. And hope to god you don't get stuck in cover again pressing space to sprint which is also to take cover and also to roll. In Mass Effect 2 all you needed to do is space to get up and start running. This would be solved by simply making it have its own button. God these controls are AWFUL! I feel sorry for the console people as well. Though I'm wondering how it compares to Gears of Wars in terms of controls. I have a feeling it's worse since Bioware has no idea how to get cover system right apparently.
I am going to do a couple of more demo runs. To try and get a grip on these controls. I was thinking of getting it for the PC when I get my rig built, but I don't think you can remap the controls, to separate the functions.
My Xbox Controller is getting worn and laggy in the sticks. As well as the left stick actually moving the char while in the center position. I need a new controller.
No more hacking, at all. *sigh* But there's still doors that are hacked in a boring but thankfully kind of brief animation. Then again it depends on how many "locked" doors there are. I can foresee this getting quite tedious. Just do away with damn locked doors altogether Bioware. Seriously if we the player aren't going to be hacking, don't waste our time with an animation.
Yeah I found that too. This along with the rolling, makes me not want to buy this game on its launch date. I think I'll hold off till I see what what pops up here.
It's a free demo I can't see a reason why you wouldn't try it.
The game has gone gold I think the same time the demo went live.
So Biofail has thousands of day 1 DLC and apparently the gameplay fails to impress. Why does this remind me of Dragon Age 2 all over again?
What's all this "day 1 DLC"? Is it lots of silly stuff for sale (piles of clothes, and extra guns which won't matter unless you're trying to "keep up" with the MP players), or is it ME2-style "here's free stuff if you bought it new with an unlock code"?
It's lots of pre order stuff or free stuff for buying games. I don't have too much of a problem with it. Rumor has it the day 1 DLC is simply what hidden character is in the collectors edition. If there is even a day 1 dlc, it sounds like Bioware isn't certain how they want to play their cards yet.
