Mass Effect Thread #56

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:57 am

It always puzzled me how people were all jumping on that leaked script, or try to find as much about the story of the game as possible (this also goes for Skyrim, where some people were very interested in knowing all about how joining the dark brotherhood went just days before release). The last thing I'd want is to spoil the story of the third game in a trilogy for myself by reading through some document.

I personally didn't know about the leaked script until about 4 days ago. Even so, I haven't looked it up. Maybe after I play through the game at least once I will. I think people are looking for as much about the story now because of the cascading effect that was the Space Edition NDA violators leaking the endings.

PS-The dark brotherhood entrance criteria was long spoiled to anyone who even read Game Informer. The preview article was his 1st sit down with the game and he mentioned finding the kid specifically.

You know, you aren't exactly helping, posting all those delicious spoiler tags here

Haha, just be glad people here bother to mark their spoilers. I've had the endings for games I've been excited about spoiled more than once because some idiot on other forums decided to post the endings in the title of their thread. It's the reason I don't go to the IGN or GameFAQs forums at all anymore.

You're probably right. It happened a bit differently, for me, though. I love nerd drama, so I spent one of my free mornings spectating on BSN. Naturally, I had to read what the fuss was about in order to understand the context, and since then I've been kind of intrigued about the endings.

I don't want to know what happens pre-ending, though. I don't even know how ME3 starts -- I've avoided the demo. It's more about the journey, for me. If someone intentionally spoiled the journey, I'd be pretty irate. So... I can empathise with those who place a lot of weight on the ending.

Spoiler
Just for the fun of messing with Pistolero. :P

I'm finding that I'm having a tough time on deciding what save file to use for ME3. In ME2 the first time I played through all off my squad-mates survived and I thought that was rather dumb. How is it that everyone was able to live just because I did them some favors and made logical choices during what was suppose to be a suicide mission? So when I replayed ME2 I abused my knowledge and picked who I would intentionally let die. The problem is that wasn't "natural" gameplay, it almost feels like I was cheating. In ME3 I want to find out if the choices I made "naturally" are going to cost me everything. Is the galaxy going to fall to the Reapers? Am I going to have to sacrifice myself for the lives of every other being? Or will I a be able to save everyone and live happily ever after? Then again why should my story be affected by some poor designing on Bioware's part?

Play through with your total survival save. I estimate you'll feel about 10% less ripped off when you get to the end. (hopefully)

So I was never able to win back Miranda's loyalty and she died at the end of Mass Effect 2 for me... It's going to svck playing ME3 without her...But I'm not going back to try over, I'm going to work on Mass Effect 1 tomorrow.

Its a clever tactic from EA.
1 week from release we will see the "Alternate endings DLC" for only 10$.

Never won Jack's loyalty back, and she died and took a loyal Tali down with her. :(

That was my first, going in blind, Sheploo Shepard. Not sure if I want to use it though.. Might use my knight in shining armor or my http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af183/Di-Duchell/JackCollag4.jpg (about 90% gon 100% Rene).

That's one of the things that piss off alotta players in ME2. In order to keep her and Jack's loyalty, you must have your Paragon rediculusly high. Good thing you're going thru ME1. the paragon bonus you bring over will help a lot.

The amount of auto dialoge in ME3 makes me want to puke. I love Hale but auto dialoge is a big letdown in comparasion to what the previous 2 games offered. I can't call Mass Effect 3 an RPG anymore due to the amount of auto dialoge. I'm done with Bioware after this game, won't be long before they share the fate of Westwood.

Since when? You can still keep their loyalty if you're renegade.

Bioware has already said they cut out a number of dialogue choices for the demo. They had to keep it to 2gb somehow.

I'm merely referencing based on what he has said. I'm very much aware of the significantly lower renegade requirement for that argument. I was assuming he was a paragon role. Notice how he didn't mention difficulty with the Tali / Legion encounter? It's the opposite in this regard with it needing a higher renegade score VS a lower paragon score.

Ah, I didn't know that. I've played ME2 both ways but I've never had that problem.

Am I the only person that had a hunch the trilogy would end this way?

I'm damn happy with the endings too.

Anyways I need to get playing through ME 1 and 2 fast, I'm not buying 3 on release so that should buy me some time. :P

Id like for your honest to god opinion as to why they would make you happy.

If your a Steven King / Lovecraft endings fan
Spoiler
then I can see in some twisted sense why you'd like them
.

Because, from where I stand
Spoiler
it's BS that they literally rip all relevance out of the game when it comes to those endings. I can guarentee that due to the popularity of the demo, there's going to be alotta ppl who never played the previous 2 games who are going to get to the ending and wonder why they wasted their time, not even counting the already fanbase who will feel the same way, 'cept of course - if their into those kinda endings. But guess what? I'm not one of them. I don't want some happy-roses ending (unless it was to spend the rest of my life with my waifu Miranda, then I'd be all for it.). I can bear an ending where the hero dies for the greater good, not to ignite the collapse of all civilization which includes but is not limited to - all Turians and Quarians dying out from starvation since they cant eat anything from Earth. I can be fine with an Alan Wake ending even. or even a Kingdom Hearts ending to say the least (sorry I couldn't think of another media that had an ending like this at the moment. I don't want these. I don't want this saga to end where lost begins.

Later scenes e.g. LI scenes, have just as much auto-dialogue...

Am I the only person that had a hunch the trilogy would end this way?

I'm damn happy with the endings too.

I know people were calling Shephard
Spoiler
"Space Jesus", but I would never have thought that Bioware would pull a The Matrix
and make him/her
Spoiler
sacrifice him/herself.
Frankly, I didn't think they (Bioware and the story) would be that lazy and lame. (Joke's on me.) It also smacks of
Spoiler
fan service and meta-commentary,
two things that may have been novel and interesting a decade or two ago; but that just grate now.

Again, I enjoy the journey more than the destination. (The journey looks to be enjoyable.) If it were otherwise, I'd be pissed at what ME3 has in store for me.

Id like for your honest to god opinion as to why they would make you happy.

I like that they're not
Spoiler
happy endings [caveat: I like Stephen King ]
but I am disappointed in the actual events. They're certainly not original -- not even slightly -- and their premise -- that is, the story leading up to the endings -- isn't even logical. I think Bioware could have done a much better job at the whole of ME's story. For all their talk about their writing, they still don't know how to write a cohesive, reconciliatory, strong narrative.
