Mass Effect Thread #58

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:14 am

Welcome to the new Mass Effect thread, with the imminent release of ME3 we expect a lot of posts to begin filling this thread. Lately a lot of the posts have concerned Bioware and their policy on Day 1 DLC. Or even EA. This isn't the thread to critique them. There is however a Bioware thread where you can go and discuss that matter. It would be appreciate by fans of Mass Effect and the moderators if you can keep the topics separate of each other. To this end I've added a link to the Bioware thread where you can feel free to critique them to your hearts content. This also includes other things such as their limited collectors edition policy and any other thing you can think of. Thank you in advance.

With spoilers soon to be rampant make sure to put them in a spoiler to not ruin the game for people. The spoiler tags can be used like so [spoiler r] and the matching tag would be [ / spoiler] with no spaces an dremoving the extra r in the first tag. Below is an example spoiler.

Thread Rules:
  • This is an ongoing topic for discussion about Mass Effect series, so keep the discussion on the games.
  • It is understandable if you don't like Mass Effect games. We have no problem with you sharing this, but this is an ongoing topic. As such, it is primarily based on the positive aspects of the games, so if you don't like them don't post.
  • This is an ongoing discussion and some people don't like Mass Effect games. If you try to provoke them it is just as bad. If you do disagree with someone, please don't drag it into a fight. This topic is primarily for what we like about the games and our ongoing experiences.
  • Respect forum rules. If you are unclear review them here.
  • Respect for other forum members is perhaps the most important. We all have opinions and we are all human beings. Treat each other with respect.

One of a lot of articles about ME3's low user rating on metacritic:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/03/08/whats-behind-the-puzzling-vendetta-against-bioware-and-mass-effect-3/

I don't know why he originally thought it was all about homophobia.

GameInformer has a slightly more balanced look at the trolling going on:

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/03/06/mass-effect-3-39-s-metacritic-user-ratings-are-being-trolled.aspx

Personally, I can't take anyone seriously who gives a game 100% or 0%.

Oh dear god thank you.....I didn't want to start this thread.

As a question who was a completionist for Mass Effect 2:
Spoiler
Other than the Geth AR, is there any other guns and/or armor in the game than only appear under a difficulty higher than normal?

I can take 100% seriously, but I know there's no such thing as perfection. It's as close as possible to perfection, if a game earns that in my eyes it has to be damn good. I usually don't agree with it being given out. I mean lots of games are easily 8-9, but actual 10's form me can be pretty rare. However, I think Mass Effect 3 is going to get one from me. Skyrim certainly couldn't. On a random tangent, the thing about perfection is it can always be improved.

I don't really listen to user reviews or critic reviews. I go, read tons of reviews form both sides, and do research on why they say the things that they do.

It's funny they should bring this up because GI's review is pretty poor as well. While obviously well written, it hardly goes into any detail. I was a bit surprised by this because I usually like their reviews.

I was surprised by Reiner's review as well. ME3 is certainly not a 10/10 although it's still a great game.

It's not even the score that bothers me, it just sounds like a fan review,"This game is great because of this coll thing and this cool thing". When he mentions the controls and how they are flawed he goes into zero detail about it.

So, has anyone figured out how to
Spoiler
get to the Talon in the locked room in Priority: Citadel? I can't find a switch to unlock the room anywhere and I've already checked the Wiki, which just says "a nearby room" which doesn't help at all as I've already checked all the rooms.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.

Finished!

But i was told the ending would svck. Why does the internet keep lying to me?

Next need to finish up my neutral-ish soldier in ME2, and then my Renegade-ish Infiltrator. Maybe all the way from ME1?

So no, the trilogy wasn't ruined for me. Not even the final part :hehe:

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.

Where was it? I wondered that myself.

It was on one of the terminals in the room you use to bypass the broken door.

I haven't been playing Mass Effect 3 as much because I want to cherish the story. I'll probably end up beating it within a few days though. I'm going to do as many side quests as possible. I heard the story is about 30 hours if rushed.

That seems to be the case for all the squad members who were unique to ME2. They just have cameos.

I have no idea what this says, because I'm not reading spoilers. However, I want to be part of the fun. Also, I stopped myself from reading it as I quoted it.

I'm on that mission right now. I sat there for 30 minutes looking at the nets and the guide trying to find a way to keep him alive and still cure the genophage, but I guess it doesn't exist.

Pistolero is going to hate this.

On that note, anybody want to pass over their Origin tag? Simpson and I have been playing MP together, and we could use a couple more.
