Mass Effect Thread #59

I did the Rannoch Missions, including the priority one. And I'll admit it, the game **Major Spoilers**
Spoiler
made me cry. ;It felt definitely epic, fighting the reaper (which took me a few tries before I found a rhythm fighting the reaper.) But the end, having enough paragon to get me the ending I really wanted, but losing Legion just as he found his individuality, and Tali's answer to the question the first Geth asked, about having a soul, I started to cry.  That three missions on Rannoch were all really good, but closing the Geth/Quarian story may be one of the highlights of the series for me. I should mention that I really liked Legion and was bummed you couldn't get him earlier, in ME2
You sum up exactly how I feel,
Spoiler
although my Rannoch ending was the opposite of yours. There are so many moments in this game where I feel so immersed in the story. Things like seeing Mordin sacrifice himself for the Krogan genophage to end or talking to Thane as he slowly slips away in his death bed really ht me hard.

P.S. Starting up a new character that I'm going to take through all three games, might go with a female adept.

Spoiler
The council has the same races regardless if you got them killed in the first one, though the replacement members do have some different dialogue. IIRC it was never said to become an all-human council, just that humans are leading it.

If you're a renegade in the first one the whole Council is replaced by humans, garunteed. But now it's one from each race again? Blows.

EDIT: As much as I am in it for the game itself, what's the point in getting invested if I'm going to be let down.

The game itself very well made, and even most of the people who hate the ending say that the game is very good up until the last 5 minutes. So you have to ask, are you in it for the journey, or the destination?

Haven't gotten to the ending yet but I can say as far as gameplay and content goes.

ME3 > ME1 > ME2

I felt like character interaction was a bit lacking in this though. In the other games I remember being able to talk to my teammates and they'd have new dialogue after every main mission. Now they just tell you to shove off because they're busy.

I think I may join you in a run from the beginning - I did a replay last fall of ME1/ME2, and although ME1's controls/UI feels dated and clunky, damn if it's still not a flat out fun game. And although ME2 lacked the options I liked for weapons and such, gameplay wise, I had a blast with ME2. ME3, as I near the end, has made me sad, I am sort of dreading the end, having tried to stay out of spoilers, but the build up just playing the game... well, there are a lot of sad moments in the game. The combat is fun. The Vanguard is freaking BAD-ass in ME3, with that charge/Nova punch. Heh. I think I will try taking an Adept all the way through.

I'm thinking of doing a full play-through with an engineer or adept as well. I've never played anything but soldiers, but playing as an engineer in multiplayer has been a ton of fun.

Well EA lied, I was wrong this time. Though truth be told I withheld the information about the Prothean being leaked months ago. I wanted to see how far someone would go to best me, all it would have taken is some evidence. A quick trip to google. I believe someone mentioned it in all the debating, but I wanted to see if they would link it and crush my argument. Didn't happen.

Egh... and he wasn't even worth the 10 dollar price as a character. He was an annoying twit of a character that doesn't really tell you anything. I enjoyed the DLC, but for different reasons than he was a likeable character.

I liked that Javik is kind of a dike. I wish I had taken him on the Thessia mission, I did not think of it at the time.

So anyway... I just did Sanctuary, so I know I am nearing the end game... Afterwards I got bummed - there was an email
Spoiler
honoring the Quarian Marines who held a tower relay or something for the Turians, the team was led by Kal'Reegar. There was one character I was hoping would make it into ME3 in one form or another preferably as a crew mate. He was awesome. He would have been a way better option than either Vega or Javik.  Sad sad panda.

I get the Bioware just really wanted to hit you hard with the cost of this conflict on a lot of levels. But it's making me kind of dread the ending. :(

Well, you get some insight into what the Protheans were like, their philosophy of society, of other races and so on. It's kind of funny, because the character of Liara, when faced with a real live representative of something she has sort of romanticized is all "wow. They could be jerks."
Spoiler
What I liked about how they wrote Javik was that he was soldier, and his last conscious thoughts 50k years earlier was the death and destruction of this once great civilization - even though they had sort of figured out the cyclical nature of the Reaping. Then, when he is awoken... society is in the exact same place.  I think I would be kind of a dike too. Heh.

I've just been watching some Youtube videos of him, when I get the game he might just be enough to break the usual rule of only human team-mates.

I am doing this now. I am always a Paragon so I think I am gonna go full Renegade.

My question is what class meshes well with Renegade, story-wise. Also, how does Tali mesh with a renegade? I wanna bring at least 1 person around all three games its looking like my only options are Tali and Garrus and I always have Garrus with me so I was thinking of going completed different this time around.

Is anyone else finding it tough to join a multiplayer game? I'm setting it to any map, any enemy, any location and bronze and nothing. Its sitting for about 10 minutes trying to find a team. :(

On PC I almost never have problems. In fact, I have to be sure that my games are set to private when I want to invite somebody or it will be full before they can join.

By the way, I wouldn't suppose that anyone would be interested in getting an all-BSF team together at some point, would they?

I always say I am going to play different, but most of the time, I make the same choices. Other than character gender and class, which I have mixed up. The only class I never played was Soldier.

Anyway, I just had a game-rage moment. Fight with Kai Leng

at Cronos. Is it the floor thing - will he finally be [censored] vulnerable if he wrecks the whole damn floor? Is that the trick? My headphones can't take another hurl across the room and I startled poor Scout.

It seems like he can take damage right after he smashes a section of floor. I just kept charging him and filling him full of shots from my Spike Thrower until he went down. You only have to deplete his shields so the fight doesn't take as long as it looks. The fight's also worth it just for the renegade interrupt at the end. I'm full paragon and it was still the most satisfying thing ever.

Sort of, he gets stuck in the destroyed spots sometimes.I just kept ripping into him and eventually he kicked the bucket.

So I started my new character, a female adept who will be more of a renegade. After playing 3 you really get to see how rough around the edges the original ME is.

Would definitely be up for that. Starting off was really difficult but I'm levelling up now and it's definitely got easier. My Origin name is EmiW.

He wrecks the floor at three places when his shields go down, each time summoning reinforcements. After that he can be killed. Very easily, in fact :lmao:

Just killed him with the grenade rifle you find at the start of the stage, It took three shot  I retract my earlier statement of Kai Leng being the only competent employee the Illusive Man has left :hehe:

SMG with high rate of fire + disrupter rounds is a pretty quick win. In fact I think I used incendiary rounds, but regardless the SMG will wear down his shields quicker than anything and if you keep hammering him with it while he's recharging then his shields never recharge. I killed him like 2 seconds after the third time he broke the floor.

So I think I'm really slow. I'm about 32 hours into ME2 and just finished the Collector's ship (i was 100% every system on the map while harvesting everything to depletion. I also have all story dlc.)

I wanna ask this out loud: does anyone think they were too harsh on Jacob's father? I mean, what else could he have done?

Yeah, me too. I always feel bad going Renegade and usually drop it quickly. I guess that means its well written. But I have two (a male solider and a female infiltrator) games from ME1 already going into ME2 so I figure while I have ME1 installed I might as well play it.
