Only Might and Magic game I played was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, it was ok but I should have rented it first.

I'm playing HoMM 3 and MM7.
Both some of my favorite games of all time actually.
Only played/loved HOMM 2 and 3.
Yeah after 3 the franchise was meh for me. 4 was bad 5 was okay at best and I have not played 6 enough to get much of an opinion but there is a lot to be desired and it is buggy as hell.

The upgraded griffin cannot even divebomb correctly. Have not touched the game for awhile(since Skyrim came out) so idk if there have been any patches.

Only Might and Magic game I played was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, it was ok but I should have rented it first.
That was one of the worse games in the series. It was WAAAAAAAYYYYY shorter than the orginal games. Comepletely unrepresentative of the franchise as a whole. It was okay at best. More of an action game than anything.

DMM&M is to the HM&M/M&M series as Skyrim is to TES series, imo.

Heroes of Might and Magic 1 - 4 are masterpieces in the genre of pure strategy games with no equal. Heroes of Might and Magic 5+ are spittle that rely on random number generators for effects and cheap imitations of Warcraft 3 when it comes to the style of the map and even worse many maps have only one path between two places removing any need for strategic placement of your units creating a mindless tug of war designed to ease those who have no concept of hit and run or flanking while making them happy about the amount of combat they get into.

I look down on what the series has become and I pity those who accidentally experience the series first by playing the more recent games. It sure would put me off from ever trying a HoM&M game again. But as it is I still return to play the games that came before the scourge of Ubisoft.

Spoiler
Yes, I have strong opinions on this series.

I don't know why future games couldn't just stick with the 2D/3D graphics. Once the series went 3D, the game looked horrendous and lost that fantasy feel it always had.

It's just part of the universal death of the cognitive element in video games.

Very True. They never should have left Enroth, Erathia and the rest of the World they left behind.

I've played World of Xeen and M&M VI from the main series. They're pretty good RPGs but I have never finished them.

Also had a lot of fun with HoMM2 and 3.

I played HoMM 3, it was a brilliant game. One of the best Turn-based Strategy games.
HoMM 4 was a huge disappointment. It was nothing like HoMM 3, less monsters, less factions, they changed all factions and mixed them toghether, heroes were too powerful at hight levels and hero design was changed.
HoMM 5 was quite okay. It was more back to he roots, but I would prefer a complete remake of HoMM 3. (with some balance changes, HoMM 3 was not very balanced.)
I haven't played HoMM 6, but it seems like they added less campaign missions, no city view, etc.

I "played" Might of Magic 6-9. But I was too young (I had the english versions and couldn't read english that good).
Actually my favourite parts of the series were 6 (because I played it the most) and 9 (because I started with only one character and wanted to stay like that).

Dark Messiah is not really a part of the rpg series Might of Magic. It surprises me how some people can refer to them as the same series. But I have to say I loved Dark Messiah. I can't see what's so bad about it.

I hope they will make a sequel or a full grown rpg&action game with the flair of the classic ones.

Loved both HoMM2 and HoMM3.

The only M&M game i've played is 7, which was great. I own most of the older ones, but for one reason or another have never got round to playing them. They don't look like they've aged well at all, but I may go back and play them on a rainy day.

I have played the Tarnum series (Warlords of the Wasteland, Clash of the Dragons, Masters of the Elements, Conquest of the Underworld) as Well as HoMM 3 and its expansions.

I loved every minute of them, and Clash of the Dragons was my favorite turn based game ever. I played a few minutes of 4 and hated its guts. I liked 5. I don't have an opinion on 6 seeing as I have not been able to play it. (computer blackscreens everytime I click play) :(

The funny thing is the faces in some old games look better than the ones in oblivion.

Except Dark Messiah is a spin off game of a completely different genre that happens to be set in the same universe.

This was honestly my first experience of these sorta game, Might and Magic and the Mandate of Heaven.

I'm just curious how many remember these games fondly, and do people even rank them among Elder Scrolls?

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1339569-might-and-magic-thread-from-mm-homm/page__fromsearch__1. So yeah there are some people but not many who played those games. I loved the crap out of Might and Magic 6 & 7. It is tragic what has happened to that series imo.

I would say they are better than Arena and Daggerfall as they were around at the same time but it is just my opinion.

I also LOVED Morrowind so it is hard for me to say one series is better than the others.
