Most of the emoticons are pretty bad

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:50 pm

I'm not a huge user of emoticons or anything, but I wonder what the chances are that these boards will move on from looking like it's 1999 - these are some pretty bad emoticons. I guess it's hard-coded into whatever engine these boards are based on (a lot of sites have these emoticons, minus the Fallout and Elder Scrolls specific ones).

To be fair, this kind is fine:
Or this: :yuck:
Nice and clean...

However, I could do without ever again seeing celebratory posts featuring five hundred of these:

What do you guys think?
Adblock the emoticons that irritate you. Problem solved there on the issue of dancing bananas.

As for the rest, is there something that year 2012 emoticons would convey in a post that these supposed ancient 1999 ones don't? I don't see what the big deal is here.

My favourite is, and always will be, :shifty:

Love it...
I have to take some credit for that one being put in. That exact image was my idea. :P

You look more professional if you don't use emoticons.

'^_^' Is the one that I use most often.

I think the Invision ones are the best, but I used to have a different version that I used on MSN which was far superior. Shame I can't find them anywhere online.

I don't get why :meh: is coded as "meh".

Meh means indifference. "Want to see a movie? Meh."

My favs are :stare: and

'' is perfect for expressing my disapproval of ideas/arguments I perceive to be stupid or flawed. I find myself using it an awful lot on the Skyrim forums.

Also, the bunny is super. :bunny: :bunny: :bunny: :bunny:

I would hope so. And pension statements, redundancy letters, CVs etc. Make the world a more inappropriately fun place, that's what I say!

And I only managed a few seconds of that, too.

Oh yeah, really glad bonk came back recently after its hiatus!

If :whistling: or  weren't available, I wouldn't bother. What I would really like is a turnip emote, the Brits may remember http://www.leftlion.co.uk/images/1/image/turnip%20taylor.jpg.

I don't approve of these old-fashioned emoticons. Sure some of them are good, but I've seen http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/141/5/d/emotiponies_by_midori_no_ink-d3gstx0.png. :chaos:

There are a lot of emoticons which are not from the same set...so it's kinda messy. I don't like messy. But....

So brazenly informing the mods of your one true weakness, so manly.
