New Baldur's Gate being teased.

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:14 am

New quotes in the source code.

Looks like they're changing it every day until we finally get a proper announcement.

Some pretty sly marketing. I love stuff like that!

I do think that another Baldurs Gate would be awesome. As far as 3d isometric party based rpgs go, we've been on a dry spell. I understand there are some to be had, but not really as epic as the old BG games were. Makes me want to go play Baldurs Gate II again, maybe after I do my Mass Effect playthroughs.

I'm excited, but a bit skeptical. Don't want the series to suffer a crappy remake or sequel, but if they come up with something good, it would be awesome to play another Baldur's Gate game, especially on a modern engine with updated graphics (the playstyle should remain the same though).

Baldur's Gate 2 is one of my favourite games of all time.

Dragon Age was touted as the spiritual successor of BG2.

Dragon Age svcked balls (IMO).

I really couldn't give a donkey's ass crack about Baldur's Gate 3 - they don't make those kinds of RPGs anymore. I'll stick with Skyrim and Deus Ex: Human Revolution for now and stop trying to wallow in nostalgia.

I don't want to get excited, I really don't, but holy god is it hard. This series, this series defined RPGs more than Elder Scrolls imo. I would love to see what they do, if it's same engine then logic would tell us, it be isometric, as the engine was made for this. Oh god this news is amazing and just when I was thinking of doing a playthrough on skype with one of my friends from here.

MUSTN'T GET EXCITED!

It's take a lot of convincing to make me a believe a new BG game would be something I'd be at all interested in. Altho I must admit I might buy it anyway, because I'd have to see for myself.
Typically tho, when I want to relive old games, I'll install & play the original games. It usually works out much better....

There's a BG teaser guys, although the comments say it was uploaded a year ago. Never saw it tho.

If only http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldur%27s_Gate_III:_The_Black_Hound had come to fruition. It sounded so promising. I wonder whether this really is a new BG game.

I so hope this is BG3. Or at the very least an HD remake of 2.

EDIT: Of course, if it is a sequel/all new game in the series, it could very well end up being bad depending on who's making it and if they attempt to "modernize" it too much. So I'm not sure how to feel. Guess I'll know in ~15 hours.

Hoping for a PC remake. Beamdog looks like a fairly small company so I doubt they'd have the funds to make a full sequel.

2 minutes (less when I post this) to go.

That'd be fine for me. I'd imagine one thing holding many back from playing it is the graphics.

This series is on my to-do list, it would be nice to either see a 3rd game in the series or a HD remake of some sort.

Well BaldursGate.com crashed spectacularly, but here's the deal.

So yeah, sounds like a remake. That's a crappy amount of information for something they've been teasing this long though. Need more infos!

Maybe when Baldursgate.com gets back up we'll have something.

Edit: Now that people are linking to the image on beamdog.com that site is having trouble as well, I've posted the image to Imgur and changed the link.

Edit: Oh well, I don't mind 2nd edition rules but they need to be improved.

Some info from https://twitter.com/#%21/trentoster.

If by today's graphics standards you mean lots of 3D rendering, no. We're 2D isometric all the way
1st rule of https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23bgee Don't break the fun. We're using the 2nd Edition D&D rules.
We're very interested in supporting the modding community and hopefully kicking off even more mods
There will be two games. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition #bgee=BG+TotSC, bg2ee=bg2+ToB
Yes, Infinity Enhanced is based off the latest Throne of Bhall codebase. #wildmageFTW #bgee
We'll be rolling screens out in the future. Same place, Same time next week. Hopefully less server fires.
Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition is going to have new content for the game you love, made by some of the original team members

On the one hand, this sorta makes my head perk up.
On the other hand, I don't often like it when ppl mess with original things (if it ain't broke...) in the name of "improvement "

New content sounds interesting tho. Wonder how much of that there will actually be.

I'm holding out the quiet hope that this is a precursor to them actually making a BG3 or something. Proving there's still a market (crashed their servers, hey!). ;)

Also...I love your avatar. Just had to say that.

I was under the impression that interplay still owned the rights to the series, and honestly, in the financial state they're in, it would be foolish of them NOT to make some more money off of the BG franchise, from a business point of view anyway.

I've done some googling, and I can't exactly find out who really does own it, I'm just assuming it's Interplay. Anyone confirm or deny this?
Even gameplay trailers give an insight of the quality of a title/game, they can't just put some things together and throw it out for sale.
