New Baldur's Gate being teased.

I think it refers to the additional content that is being developed for the games.

If it only has one dlc for an additonal character, I won't buy the entire game.

It wasn't really turn-based though. I mean yeah technically there were "turns", but the actual gameplay was RTWP.

I don't think most actioners would appreciate that distinction. They want to directly control their characters and mash buttons.

Games like BG are far more niche than straight-up action-RPGs, but I am eager to buy this game to remind the industry (and Bioware in particular) that this niche audience still exists, and we still have money to spend.

Never played the 1st two, I doubt if my computer could play the updated versions but it would be something that I would love to play after I have heard excellent things about both games.

It's iPad exclusive??

Bad news imo. Touchscreen-gaming is not my cup of tea.

New content, adventures and partymembers sounds good, though. I might buy it anyway just to support sales, hoping it will lead to a BG3 (on pc).

No, it's coming to PC and iPad. Maybe other platforms will be announced later, I don't know.

Oh!

Thank you!

Now I'm happy again

(I'm too clumsy to use touchscreens. I already ruined two cellphones and I fear my iPad is next if I start playing on it)

Sorry I know this is possibly in the wrong place, but does anyone know of a really good newbies guide to the BG series? I bought BG2 last night and haven't played many older RPGs. I found one last night on my phone but cant remember what I searched for now because I can't find it.

Something that basically goes through character creation, combat etc for people who haven't played older RPGs?

Thanks muchly. :)

http://www.planetbaldursgate.com/bg/character/

Sadly this is the best guide I can find without photocopying the game manuals.

BG runs AD&D 2e ruleset. The abilities scores are rolled by making 3d6 (3 six sided dice) rolls to each score. All classes have prime abilities, for prime abilities it has to be at min of 9. That means if you have str of 9 you cannot be a fighter.

Str for fighter is somewhat different. Only a single class fighter can have str score beyond 18 at creation. It means once you've set str to 18, there are 5 more grades beyond that to represent how awesome you are, by rolling a d100. 18/00 (rolled a 100) is the best. You gain +3 attack/+6 damage for melee attack. Weapon specialization is also available only to fighters, be it single class or multiclass.

Each race has different restriction of class/multiclass. Each class may have different alignment restriction. Paladin can only be lawful good, ranger can only be good, druid must be partially neutral, bard cannot be lawful, monk must be lawful, etc. The alignment affects how hostile some NPCs are towards you.

The ruleset is pretty vast, would be best if you could ask more specifically.

Thanks hon. I've pored over the manuals but there's just sooooo much info in them. I've never seen such a detailed game manual!

Will have a look at the site you've linked to. The site I was on last night mentioned pressing tab for all searchable loot containers which I wish I'd done

Ok some keywords.

THAC0: To Hit Armor Class 0 - It's the roll you need to make to hit someone with armor class 0. You roll a d20 to attack, modifiy it with +attack and some other modifiers, namely non proficient weapons (-4) and firing ranged weapon while being meleed (-4).

AC: armor class - your base armor class is 10, you deduct the number by your dexterity bonus, 18 dex provides a -4 bonus, yes bonus not penalty. It reduce your AC to 6, then leather armor gives you armor 8, which means it set your base AC to 8, then mesh in all bonus and penalties.

In AD&D, look at following:
Lower the better -
THAC0
AC
Saving Throws
Higher the better -
Attack rolls
Damage rolls
Abilitiy scores
Proficiency level

Hope this clears up your confusion.

That's it for the ports I hope. Maybe next week we'll finally get some real news. Most of this news post was copy pasted from the iPad one.

The original BG games were released on Mac, so I don't see why this update would be any different.

The Enhanced Edition will include a variety of Mac OS X specific features, including widescreen and iCloud support.
Widescreen support, only for Macs. :hehe:

My brain just went :bonk: a little bit there I'll admit, but thanks. The more I play it the more I realise how hand held we are by current RPGs...

I wouldn't say that. AD&D 2e was rather mindbogging. That's why they made 3e, it reversed all calculation back to higher the better.

Yeah but you don't have to even think about the calculation now if you choose not to. You can say 'I'm going to specialise in swords' and you can hold a sword. You don't have to think about dice rolling etc. Or maybe it's just the RPGs I play now that hold your hand. :)

I definitely think BGEE could benefit from some ingame tutorials. The original BG sort of assumed you were familiar with the D&D ruleset.

Some quotes from Trent Oster's twitter (not from April 1st!)

We want to do Planescape: Torment after the BG series.

We're still working out all the details, but we will be adding some classes/kits

The UI will be rebuilt. The backgrounds are going to be post-processed originals

We've talked about adding additional difficulty settings to #baldursgate inspired by the fan mods. I hope it fits in budget.

Gotta love what a little Open GL loving can add to a game. A touch of zoom and it makes the game feel so much better.

Or assumed you have completely familiarized yourself with the game manual.

I've been playing through the Baldur's Gate series recently, and being approximately three quarters through the lot, all I want them to add is a defence against the Mind Flayers!

I'm quite tempted to agree with this statement based on the only Apple fan I know on a personal level (only currently know one person who is into Apple products) and the first thing he said when the topic of BG was brought up was that he couldn't stand the graphics. He's also never wanted to give Morrowind or Oblivion a chance (and what then Arena and Daggerfall) while he is a Skyrim fan just because the interface confuses him and he dislikes the graphics of the previous games.

Basically what Apple fans tend to be after is smooth, sleek and pretty features, use or efficiency be damned, and Baldur's Gate is quite far from being smooth, sleek and pretty (in terms of graphics then, aesthetics could be argued).

My own experience with apple fans is pretty little though so of course I could be wrong.
