New Vegas and Replayability

i found the replayability to be really bad in new vegas, each playthrough kinda seemed the same, what could of helped give a lot more replayability? :ninja: :nerd:

Do things differently, perhaps. Side with someone else, solve the quests in different manner (favoring someone else), make a different character, ignore the MQ at the start and return to it much later. Etc.

If you don't care about the stories and characters you can always play pretend (like many here seem to do), though if none of this is your cup of tea, you should just move on to other games - no sense in forcing yourself to play a game you don't like to play.

Ive just started my 2nd play through and have changed who I sided with in first mission and have subsequently done new missions that were not available to me first time round, when I played as a law abiding, salt of the earth character :). I'm not sure yet how I will change things 3rd time round but I certainly give it a try!

Well, the replayability is good for me, four different playthroughs already seem like an improvement compared to FO3's one... :whistling:

The OP must be rubbing off on me, I'm feeling a sudden urge to go to the FO3 forum and post numerous comments about how much I dislike stuff in that game. But I think I'll resist :B

Try to beat the main quest as fast as you can! That would seem really hard but fun! :hubbahubba:

Yeah I blame the stale world design.

Fallout 3 is much better for replayability.

New Vegas is good for 1 good and 1 evil play through, the only differences come near the ending, for the most part you're always going to go the same route.

Goodsprings>linear world trekking>battle at the dam

It's downside is its failure as a freeroaming world. In FO3 I just ignore the main quest but in NV you can't do that, the quests are the meat and potatoes of the game.

I should totally copy what some guy I know that I wouldn't mention which isn't totally obvious as to who I'm refering to and go to the Fallout 3 Forum!

You really do need to follow the first act, to where you meet Benny for the first time, but other than that, the MQ can be ignored in this game. You can also ignore the MQ's first act, but you lose out on the best home (mostly for dealing with companions).

True, in FO3, you could ignore the MQ completely.

You don't have to get to Benny to get the suite, IIRC Mr. House gives it to the Courier after they first speak.

I can happily ignore the MQ in NV.

No, you don't have to deal with Benny, but you might as well follow the first act of the MQ to get to the strip.

I found New Vegas to have more replayability than FO3.

In FO3 you either helped the Brotherhood, or you helped them whilst doing evil things every now and again.

Whereas in New Vegas you get four main quests.

In terms of mq fonv decimates fo3 but in everything else (sq .epxloring hidden quests schematics) fo3 tears up fonv like a deathclaw eating grandma sparkle.

How do the quests in Fallout 3 tear of NV's?

Or the weapons.
Or the armors.
Or the amount of NPC's.
Or the amount of dialogue.
Or the writing.
Or the coherent gameworld.
Or the perks.
Or the SPECIAL.

1. EW was patched and is far better than Vanilla FO3's EW and Explosives while underpowered have more choices now.
2. CSS, overpowered, so they nerfed it, T51b is in both games, hellfire is gone but replaced with remannats and we have several vault suits in FONV.
3. NV has more NPC's overall, not just strip but everywhere.
4. Thank you.
5. Have you done Veronica's quest? Or Arcades? Or Rauls? Or Cass'?
6. FO3's gameworld made no sense with agriculture, production, economy, wildlife, hostility or basic logic.
7. Yeah I shouldn't have included that one, it's all about preference there.
8. Nope, Luck has input on gambling, Agility have input on how long it takes to equip a weapon and reload a weapon, STR has input on damage and weapon STR requirements, CHA influences a companion stat called Nerve.

1 energy weps are still behind guns in fonv where as in fo3 they are far superior plasma rifle fonv 40 dmg fo3 just below 60 laser rifle about 30 fo3 about 40 explosives who cares about choice when they don't work (fat man 240 dmg rofl) 2 yep css was overpowered t51b is in fonv but im talking about winterized TB51(closer to how power armor should be ) 3 There is shambolic amount of npc's in the strip 5 Arcade sq was brilliantly write yet veronicas was a disgrace 6 Well it's realism v fun take you're pick.8LOL i forgot about that :(.

Fallout 3 had horrible replayability, because of its linear main quest with very few player choices. Fallout New Vegas has tons of replayability because there is much more player choice and freedom.

Try the Goodsprings - Tribal Village - Bright Springs - Khan start. It's fun and a bit tricky. Cads at level 2/3 is pretty challenging. Vipers are a bit tough too but I get help to kill them.

I was going to post something prosaic, but really, this thread again? Too many people presenting mere opinions as fact.

"X was overpowered. X was better." Yada yada yada.

I will say one thing as fact though... in NV, explosives are absolutely stuffed. That's a fact! I'd sooner have a patch fixing the issues with this than prioritising nerfing things.
