Next Dragon Age Will be a Skyrim clone

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 5:26 pm

Ok, clone is pushing it a bit, but just saw this interesting article on wired about the next Dragon Age game.

BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka said the company has been listening to its fans and learning from the strengths and weaknesses of both Dragon Age II and other games that are on the market today.

“The next Dragon Age is gonna have the best of features from the prior Dragon Age games, but it’s also gonna have a lot of things I think players are gonna find compelling from some of the games that are out now that are doing really well with more of an open world feel. We’re checking Skyrim out aggressively. We like it. We’re big admirers of Bethesda and the product, We think we can do some wonderful things.”

Will be interesting to see what elements of Skyrim they implement besides the open world.

I'd be interested in seeing this, as well. They may have gained experience from SW:TOR, so it might turn out fairly well.

Considering on how DA2 turned out, this maybe an improvement.

That part has pretty much been the line given since the day after DA II was released, the skyrim bit is just trying to appeal to some of the competitors fans. Or just tryin to preempt another knuckle dragging reporter before he mentions it.

I think a more open world would combat one of the major problems Dragon Age 2 had with its repetitive, railroady feel. This is all good in my book.

Knowing how dodgy Bioware has been lately, I'll believe it when I see it.

dragon age story
skyrim open world awsomeness= an amazing game.
sadly, i bet it will be crap, i imagine an open field with nothing to look at or interact with and random wolf encounters.

I enjoyed Dragon Age 2, but it was definitely disappointing. Making it more like The Elder Scrolls can only be a good thing.

I`d be interested to see what they come up with after being inspired by Skyrim. I enjoyed the first Dragon Age but heard the second one was bad. If Skyrim helps to raise the bar, that`s great.

Intriguing news. Hopefully they do take a lot from Skyrim and learn to use it as a guidebook of sorts.
Dragon Age II was a big let down and a money milker for EA, they really need to step up their mark in the next game.
And they really should look back at Dragon Age: Origins, for it gave a lot of people a great all round emotional experience.

I stoped playing it once grass was to high to climb. If they make it more open it could be worth a look.

You have to remember, Bethesda are masters of open-world single player RPGs. Bioware is just starting to dip its feet.

Has Bioware ever made a sandbox-style game before? KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Dragon Age, Dragon Age 2, Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinter Nights 2, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2... all of these things have one thing in common, and that is that all of them aren't "true" sandboxes.

Each one is basically a series of self-contained zones that are connected by a world-map type of device. If they impliment the new style in DA III... it may be be less than stellar because of how unfamiliar and alien the new method of gamebuilding will be.

Skyrim was not a small undertaking. It took Bethesda a lot of trial and error to get to this point. The only other team with adequate experience really to try to pull this off is Rockstar (or perhaps Blizzard).

Actually, I wasnt even aware they were making a DAIII. I assumed after the train-wreck they were going to let it die.

Well, it has so much potential, here's hoping they make a worthy successor to DAI

Take the EA out of Bioware (with exception of the financial backing), then they could make a great game

Would have been nice if Bethesda had taken a look at DA Origins. They got a lot of things right, especially with creating depth in relationships and no endless repeats of the same lines by NPC's (visted the cloud district or thought about trying mercenary work... maybe you're looking to protect yourself or deal some damage?.. ). DA also had good voice actors. Not really, really bad schwarzenegger impersonators.

A mix of DA:Origins and Skyrim would be a dream for me.

In my case DA II was a disappointment in almost every aspect (anime style combat, empty and repeating levels, waves of airborne enemies etc, etc.) so I hope we will see almost nothing of it in DA III

Instead of repeating lines, they just stopped talking ALTOGETHER after you went through a certain amount of discussions.

Not to mention the sole focus of that game was story, while Skyrim's sole focus is a massive sandbox world. That world is much harder to make with character having several lines of writing each, and a lot of depth.

I think it's cool that they give credit to Betheda. These are basically the two big western rpg developers left.. they could be nasty competitors, but no.

I liked a lot of DAII, but it definitely could be improved. Warrior combat is fun. Definitely an improvement over the first Dragon Age (while DA1 had a better story). The general idea they had behind a cinematic type of story and a named protagonist was cool. And Dragon Age lore in general is cool imo... opening up the world more would be great.
