It's Oblivion 2. That's all it is.

Morrowind is a little bit like Daggerfall.
Oblivion is a little bit like Morrowind.
Skyrim is a little bit like Morrowind (Lore, Culture, Conflicts), Oblivion (Engine, Combat) and Daggerfall (Semi-Random and Semi-Finite Content)

I can agree with this, though I don't think Morrowind was anything like Daggerfall (except like all TES games, they all are about parts of Tamriel). When it came to RPG factors, where player agency was heavy and choices meant differences in plots states and multiple endings, nothing compared to Daggerfall in any of the Beth RPGs. Morrowind was my fav for atmosphere and combined with RPG factors, Oblivion was just the most beautiful, near zero PA though (that bummed me). Skyrim seems to have brought back the PA and lore that got lost in Oblivion, that Morrowwind seem to lose coming from Daggerfall. I also love the expository convos with the NPCs as that really makes the lore of the realm enhanced. Now, if they could re-work the UI to look more lore-ish, instead of that Scaleform Flash interactive, that would be the stuff

I'm not that far into the game, but I have to disagree with the OP. Skyrim feels a lot like Morrowind with modernized Oblivion Features. But I'm sure that someone before me already said that, so,
+1 to whoever stated that already.
This is my feeling as well. The game-world "feels" more like Morrowind with upgrading graphics, dialogue and infinitely better magic. I'm also a bit shocked at how "cartoon-y" Oblivion looks compared to Skyrim. Skyrim is a massive leap forward in TES games IMHO.

This may be the dumbest argument ever.

Skyrim is nothing like Oblivion. The only similarities are that they both share the same core Elder Scrolls mechanics/feel. You'd have to have not played any other Elder Scrolls game to think that Skyrim is just Oblivion 2.

Errr........ Nothing like Oblivion?

- Same Graphics (basically)
- Same Quest structure. In fact its exactly the same eg: Shrine quests (just done Azura and got her star and it was just as before in Oblivion. It does exactly the same). Forts, er.. Thieves Guild etc etc etc. It's practically identical to Oblivion in the way the game is structured.
- Same clunky combat but with some naff finisher animations.
It goes on and on. I just know that I am going to have to find every other shrine, as per Oblivion .

I'm not saying its a bad game BUT:

Daggerfall to Morrowind - A huge leap forward in graphics and gameplay
Morrowind to Oblivion - Ditto. A huge change in graphics and gameplay

Oblivion to Skyrim - Very little difference in graphics, gameplay and game structure.

In order:

-Yeah, the graphics are basically the same, assuming you haven't actually looked at the screen while playing Skyrim. If you're honestly going to stick to this argument, then you're being willfully obnoxious about something that's clearly improved.

-Same quest structure? Remind me of all the times in Oblivion couriers would find you to give you quests sending you across the world. And if you've only tried Azura's Daedric quest, then you have absolutely no clue how awesome some of the other ones are. Sanguine's quest is by far the most fun I've had in a game, ever. As for guild quests- it feels much more open than Oblivion in a lot of ways. If you really can't tell the difference, you need to go play Oblivion again. And this isn't even taking into account the quests you get by randomly entering some amazing dungeon in the middle of the wilderness.

-Combat feels better to me, but I'm not expecting Assassin's Creed style gameplay. This is the only semi-legitimate concern, but comparing it to Oblivion is still a stretch.

It is a step up from Oblivion. It's a step up from Oblivion in every way, you'd have to be blind not to notice that.

I actually think it's better than Morrowind so far.

definitely.

Your trolling if you say this game is the same as obvlivion , every single aspect of the game has been improved , I play on PC and the graphics are excellent as well. I struggle to think of a single thing they havent changed since oblviion . OP is definitely trolling to say its the same as oblivion

I agree that Skyrim is an improvement on Oblivion. It's just not the great leap forward I was expecting after all this time.

For many, including myself graphics or animations aren't the most important thing in the game.

I agree that they are lacking compared to contemporary games, but I don;t find them distracting from my overall experience.

Graphically, the game is hardly top notch, but Skyrim's strengths lie in other areas.

I don;t mind it much.

I for one, never expected Crysis like quality, and neither should you have, seeing that it is a multiplatform title.

This game is NOTHING like Oblivion.

^^ this

Some people will find fault regardless as its within their nature to do so.
Instead of just taking it as a whole package and as a new game to enjoy they go into the game as self opinionated inspectors constantly comparing it to the former model. The fact the game is packed with much more detail and superior graphics and many new ideas in character creation and extra perks or jobs etc completely surpasses their idol judgement. Most don't even know their buttocks from their elbow let alone anything about game creation.

Skyrim all in all is great game. Thank you Bethesda :celebration:

Considering it was held back so it is still able to play on present games consoles. I'm sure most would be moaning if they had to pay £500 or whatever for a new console just to play the game. Just learn some appreciation.

You seem like the type of guy that could ruin any party. The graphicss are the same? Have you witnessed the clouds? The rivers? The shadows? The fire? My goodness, Skyrim may not be perfect but you have chosen to [censored] about the oddest things. Its like you only notice the defects. You dont regard the game as a whole
Don't get me wrong I am enjoying the game,

But to say that it is not like Oblivion is absurd. It is exactly the same in it's structure and game play bar a few minor tweeks. And this may be no bad thing.

The major disappointment is that there has been no improvement in the quality of the animations especially with regard to combat. Characters still float jerkily abut etc.

It's a 2009 game published late.

Hmmmm........ lets be reasonable

Despite a number of unfathomable design choices such as making magic bland, generic and useless, this game blows Oblivion out of the water.

It is so much more varied, interesting and detailed.
The world feels vibrant and alive.

From the atmosphere of the game to the questing to interacting with the NPC's.
Morrowind/ Daggerfall level of gaming quality.

Could be the greatest TES of all time. Too early to tell.

Anyone who says Skyrim is like Oblivion has simply looked at pictures and decided.

Anyone who has played the game for more then 30seconds knows, this is NOTHING like Oblivion. At all, full stop. Period.

Well, oblivion won GOTY and most people loved it, so is that really so bad?

Its better in every way. Perks, dungeons, voice acting, graphics, quests, items... just, everything about it is better and improved from oblivion.

Is this supposed to be a bad thing? Skyrim is a lot like Oblivion because it's a sequel to Oblivion. It has several major improvement and tons more polish (which Oblivion needed badly), but it's fundamentally similar to Oblivion. Why is that a bad thing? Oblivion was a diamond in the rough, and Skyrim is a diamond.

Skyrim is Oblivion perfected (in most senses) and with much better graphics.

It isn't a revolutionary game, just a perfection of a game that was dubbed revolutionary for it's own time (Oblivion).

Skyrim is a wonderful game, huge step forward from Oblivion. Not everything is perfect, but keep in mind the sheer size of this game. Expect another revolutionary title when the next generation consoles come out.
