No one complains about the length of any elderscrolls game o

Yes and Oblivion had richer quest and a way better magic system just for a start.

Then Morrowind had even better longer quest with an even better magic system but the Game was far uglier than Oblivion without mods of course.

Oblivion richer quests? The only thing that comes to mind when thinking of richer quests in Oblivion was the dark brotherhood. Every other quest line ( factions, mq, single quests ) were nothing more than fetch this and kill that. The main quest of Oblivion was nothing short of horrible writing.
I really like Bethesda and their games, but Oblivion was by far the worst game they ever made. It was nothing more then an empty benchmark showcase husk with a bit of content added to it.
I choose Morrowind's graphics over Oblivion any day. Why? It had style and identity. Oblivion was another generic fantasy action game. I did enjoy it though, but not without mods. I still play Morrowind today, unmodded.

Mind you, I'm stating my opinion here and not attacking you. I simply feel very different about Oblivion.

This is however about Dawnguard and I dare say, it really is worth the money. However, this will always be a matter of taste. Some of the complains really are valid while others are silly. You can't have a game with everything in it. So, no matter how hard Bethesda tries to create an all round game that will appease to every gamer, they will never succeed. Everyone's taste differs, which is why Bethesa is not the only gaming software in the world and the elder scrolls not the only game franchise. Play other games if you don't like it. And if your newly acquired game is not to your taste, you probably should have informed yourself better.

You think Oblivions MQ was written badly, even compared to the nothing that was Skyrims MQ?

And how does one inform themselves better, if the developers tell blatant lies about content in a game which doesn't exist?

Yes, Skyrim's mq wasn't exactly cream of the crop either, but still better than Oblivion.

I think its quite a contentious point to argue. For one, Oblivion had a plot.

I couldn't get much out of Skyrim aside from "HERP DRAGUNZ GUN KEEL US!", except that, there was no direct threat from any Dragon...

Skyrims climix happened at the start of the game.

My complaint is that the DLC isn't worth the price they charged for it. It's a decent DLC, not the best since both sides of the quest line pretty much are the same without only a few minor differences.

For this price we should have gotten so much more and both sides of the quest line should have been different so that there is a reason to play them both.

Funny thing is that the vampire faction gets one exclusive quest and yet thats the only quest in the MQ where my vampirelord form got stuck in the low archways. I love bethesda but I do think they got some slackers on the team.

The first time that happened to me a actually laughed. That and the first time I seen the VL move while "flying". It looks like a glitch.

I guess all we can do now is seek pleasure from the PC release and the many mods which are going to inevitably be published. I do feel sorry for the console users who are not satisfied with the product and cannot for whatever reason play Skyrim on the PC. Bethesda may be taking the Fallout route by releasing lots of small or moderately sized DLCs rather than a hefty Shivering Isles size expansion. I am confident that Bethesda has acknowledged people's dissatisfaction by now, both from the forums and reviews. I hope for all our sakes that the next DLC is an multi-gigabyte expansion with a coherent plot and adequate 'goodies'.

I'm starting to notice a trend before with morrowind and oblivion they would push back the release date and work on the game more but now with new vegas and skyrim they seem to rush it. heck new Vegas was rushed like a year and a half and was planned to be alot bigger they were planning to add Colorado
It seems that way I have been saying it since the game has released and I thought it before release. Skyrim it needed more time and then it would have had more features and it would certainly be more polished, I think Bethesdas plan with Skyrim was release a broken buggy game and patch it later. But the patches are breaking things that is crucial to the game like enemy respawns.

hate to tell you guys but this game won game of the year in about a month that is really fantastic so in the end what people say means nothing the sales show it all. 20 hours is an expansion. how many dlcs out there add 10 to 20 hours of gameplay? not many and the ones that do consider thing this size to be an expansion. all you dame cry babies crying this is not an expansion cause I want more time need to shut up I mean really they have been listeni g to us and adding the kind of things we have asked for.
So I take it this is the single post of mine you have read here and your one of the ones who is ok with the game crunching bugs and you blindly defend Bethesda by saying this is a game of the year game. Why does it have game of the year it sold well to the masses that choose to accept a bugged game and not glove anything about it. This game is not perfect and its a bugged disaster I will continue to voice my thoughts on this until they fix the major issues, that is the point in me posting my thoughts in this thread.

Also this game got game of the year because of its pretty fluff and its dragons thay appear far to frequently. The review system that gives games their ratings are poorly done and they don't matter.

Just because the Dark Brotherhood was the popular choice for Oblivion? Also what game does not resort to fetch quest and kill that pretty much every game and definitely every RPG out there the RPG genre is the genre of fetch quest.

The mages guild and the main quest was far better than what Skyrim offers Skyrims civil war quest is lazy design the entire concept is copy and pasted onto the other side and the representation was poor at best and that's being generous. Oblivion offers longer and more rewarding questlines compared to the swill we have in Skyrim. Oblivion suffered from a copy and lasted world that was randomly generated and abhorrent level scaling that's what hurt that game.

Morrowind was the cream of the crop in what richness of the story and world of Betheadas past four games Fallout 3 included they did not make NV. Morrowind had the best stories and the best writing and best faction progression. Bethesda needs to look at Morrowind on how to create an interesting and compelling world.

Can we PLEASE stop using the phrase "fetch quests"? It's a general term used to prop a lazy argument. Every game ever made is a series of fetch or kill quests. Don't start bjtching now because you're finally old enough to realize games are a series of 1s and 0s.

Sleep is just a series of breaths... see? I can be idiotically vague too.

I personally had no problems with the length of the DLC or the price. I know I've spent well over 20 hours on Dawnguard since it was released and I haven't even started the MQ yet. So I'm going to spend less than a dollar per hour of gameplay. Seems like a bargain to me.

How is it entitled to complain about something that is crap after you've paid for it on the pretense that its something its not, due to what equates to blatant lies told by the developer during development?

I'd not call that entitled, I'd call that just.
well your the one who thinks its crap thats fine others dont, you dont want to call it ab expansion but on what standard are you useing to say it is not since there is a clear line then you need to show a scale(something that is the min for an expansion in any game) otherwise saying it is not an expansion because you dont feel it is comparable to SI,Blood Moon,Tribunal(which is only 3 which hate to say is not alot) then you are makeing a self centered statement based solely on your perceptions.

Now, I've had major issues with the chaotic vamp attacks eliminating merchants/quest givers, even when my character was nowhere around the event.

But I also feel I've gotten more than my $20 worth.
- The quests are enjoyable, I like the new eye candy items, and some of the new areas are quite beautiful (I go hunting in the vale).
- I've put in over 40+ hours on one character since joining the Guard and have yet to do all available side quests.
- Of those listed, I've yet to see many new areas
- I haven't run the vamp side, yet. My Save at lvl10 is just itching to be fired up but I still have much left to see from the Dawnguard side.
- And, as in any TES quest line, your imagination and character build can greatly alter your approach to some quests.

Some key mechanics need tweaking, true, and I trust they'll get around to that.
But as a long time TES player, I'm happy overall with this addition and have no issue with the purchase price.
I don't play these games to beat them. I get more enjoyment from experiencing them. That said, I'm honestly enjoying Dawnguard (glitches and all).

Just one opinion. Your questing mileage may vary. :read:

I started Dawnguard at 118 hours. Ended at 132 hours on one playthrough. That's longer than a lot of 60 buck games these days. A game's length is a stupid thing to complain about, most folks play games to have fun. If you've enjoyed your experience then you got what you paid for.
This.

I really don't particularly care about the length of Dawnguard. I do care that it has glitches which won't be patched for the 360 users. I do care that those of us who chose one of the sides didn't get to make a choice regarding a certain prophecy and that the magical bow doesn't even work in most of Skyrim.

Edit: In general, when defending a game, I wouldn't recommend pointing to awards when reviews are pretty much meaningless these days.

Ah thank you friend
no probs I felt like you made some really good points with it and as I saw above Skyrim no elder scrolls games in general are not the kind of games you play to beat but to enjoy. with a huge world space and complete freedom to do what you want when you want then your going to get more bugs Skyrim is just so vast that it happens. and really the reviewers called dawnguard just more skyrim which is not a surprise they were not going to make a new game, I mean some of you seemed to expect lots of new game mechanics despite the fact that the last patch added fighting on horse back, dawnguard added vampire transformation, vampire and wearwolf perk trees, cross bows and arrow forging, and a few others as well I mean really I am not a game designer but even I know that to add just one new game mechanic is very hard work Dawnguard alone has at-least added 5.
