I don't think we are going to be able to just the material to make the houses out of either which is a bummer.

Yup, the idea is, you already can own a house in the 5 major holds. The new houses are being built in the 3 lesser holds. And Winterhold fell into an ocean, so thats not an option.

Well, who knows? This dlc is showing that they know we were very interested in what was shown in that tech demo a while back. So if we get mounted Dragons and spears in the future I'll be a happy person.

That brings the DLC down so much...

I can see how building anywhere would be problematic, but if it is only 3 places you can build then that really is a bummer, not even one in each hold? Oh well, I guess the building of the house is the main draw of this DLC, not the choosing of where the house will be.

So you understand that it is technically unfeasible to allow the player to place his home anywhere he wants but you are going to [censored] and complain about it anyways? By the nines.

It does??? HOW? Right now, you've got ZERO places to build a house. Personally I feel lucky if there are "only" three.

But ya know...some people can't help complaining. Being negative and miserable. For just 5 bucks, I don't care if I only get one area to make my plot.

there may be more, never know, that's better than Oblivion, you had specific locations for each of the houses and couldn't change the designs at all.

If you complete the College's quest, you get the best studio apartment EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD, and you have a whole University at your disposal. The only downside is that there is no smithing station.

I'm just stating this because essentially by doing those quests (sorry thieves and warriors), you get the 6th house, and with these three you now have the ability to have estates in all 9 holds. If the College of Winterhold isn't good enough for you, then oh well. It's not like it's hold with any real big major features except for the shrine of Azura, which if you're a Dunmer, you're probably using some sort of magic.

As long as I can build a lair in Falkreath I'll be fine. I still want to be able to pick a secluded area but whatever. I'm sure modders will pick up on that.

Here's hoping we'll get a Rebuild Winterhold DLC somewhere down the line to round out the home ownership thing here, I know there's the College of Winterhold but I'd count that as like a sub-home, similar to the DB Sanctuary or the Companions Hall.

Maybe either as its own DLC a few months or year from now or as part of a larger DLC such as post-Civil War/Thalmor, Morrowind or Solstheim.

I'm going to have a rant, how dare they not give me the option to build my new dream house in Coldharbour. That's it I'm going to rant on this forum forever more, burn all my Bethesda stuff and send hate mail to Todd until he personally appologises to me!

Where would you rebuild it? the city was built on a cliff overlooking the sea of ghosts. Most of it fell into the ocean. Winterhold can never be rebuilt they'd have to build a whole new town somewhere else.

To be fair, they can just start building in-land. There is space east and south to build. I think the city could definitely be expanded a bit, at least enough so to repair the destroyed buildings already there, and to build a few new ones, including player-housing.

I was wondering about this. Because it seems strange- in the base game the five main cities have houses. Now we have a DLC that lets us build houses in the smaller holds- oh, wait, only three out of four...

I mean, maybe they figured the terrain in Winterhold is basically the same as that in the Pale, but that would be a boring and lazy answer.

The areas, from what we can see in the trailer, are pretty secluded. You're not going to be building the house in the city of Falkreath, but in a wilderness area within the hold of Falkreath.

wow, and you can't really have a real estate empire, you can only really buy the houses in game and the houses that you build. I can't really buy and sell other houses other people own. Like i can't make money by just buying low and selling high.

The mudcrab mounts every one is excited about? yea, those are just stuffed mudcrabs you can put on your wall, not actually mudcrabs you can ride, thought maybe we finally got something to ride in water.

Also, you can only build houses

What is your post even trying to say?

You can build more than just houses. You can build the things that go into the houses as well. If they add a renting feature or at least the ability to sell your existing houses that would be a major plus. They are not going to add a bunch of empty houses that you can buy and resell. What the hell would be the point anyway?

Well placement is a lot more problematic in game than just a sparse area the player see. There are quest points, spawn points and all sorts of things that are not visible at all times (if at all). So placement has to be somewhat limited so that it doesnt screw up something else. Would it be nice to place it anywhere ? Of course. But then you could have things like save bloat rearing its ugly head.

I'm still hoping for more marriage candidates and adoptable kittens though :)
