An Open Letter to Bethesda (Freezing and Lag)

Um no. Try their contact page, that's usually a good place to find stuff like that unless you just prefer to assume they don't give an address or phone number:

http://www.gamesas.com/eng/contact.php

They list their main office street address, telephone number, and fax number right there. No big secret.

Oh sorry did I forget to mention that not everyone lives in the United States of America? I didn't think I'd have to spell it out

So you expect them to have an office in every country on the planet then? Your complaint was "they don't have an address or phone number" not "they don't have an address down the street or a local phone number."

I expect them to communicate with customers who have issues. Their failure to do so is a damning illustration of how little they value their customers. Their time will come.

Most game studios have a dedicated phone contact number for support, in countries they sell to.

DICE are constantly answering stuff on their forums, twitter and always posting information up and they have a much bigger customer base then Bethesda. When PS3 players were having the VOIP problems I remember a couple of devs on the forum guiding people about possible fixes every couple of weeks and they apologised too.

Applause for you, you just took everything I'd say out of my mind and posted it. It expresses my feelings, exactly how it is.

For those saying "it's a matter of time before we can finally play it", acting like it's no big deal; go bang your heads against a wall, or something hard. It's 3 months post release. I could have kept those 50€, that hard-earned money, and bought the game today, or in a couple of days. Fooled me once (with the Fallout games) Bethesda, and shame's on you. Fooled me twice (Skyrim), shame on me. No more Bethesda games for me, only used and zero DLC. Not a dime from me again.

And as JamboRobbo said, it's more likely your topic will get closed than any Bethesda employee, even a PR guy/gal, answering to anything. That's sad... but what's even more sad is that the developers of this abomination (on the PS3, mostly) are smiling for their GOTY awards, but haven't bothered writing even a completely formal apology to the people who spared 50€ from their budget, in such difficult times, to get a game in its beta state, one that might become available to play 3 months after they bought it, if not later.

OP - This is just how much Bethesda cares about our 'playing experience' now.

If you all will recall, in the early days post-release there was some occasional response in the PS3 subforum from Gstaff. That has ALL since stopped, and when I ask him directly about a few things? Nothing.

Does anyone _ever_ respond to bug reports?

Its hard to know what is actually getting registered, let alone worked on, can you comment on any of these?

Im seriously trying to be respectful here. But your company's approach to support is horrendous.

Until we release patch notes, I can't always say what we're working on, let alone answer each and every thread within the forums.

As we have new updates, we try to pin information at the top of teh forums.

Thanks for the note.

Seriously, they are not going to fix this.

People want to talk about how great you are and how innovative Bethesda games are? Since when has knocking around a ten year old game engine that you can barely improve and releasing more and more broken games, with less content and much less originality been considered creative?

They lack ANY customer service whatsoever. These issues will not and cannot be fixed by Beth, maybe if someone else ported it, but not them. Go read some Fallout forums posts. Basically we all bought 65 turd in a dvd case.

Did'nt read the whole topic, just wanted to say well said OP. I have seen a few posts on this forum from people like yourself, who have taken the time to think about what they want to say and put their position across eloquently and without ranting (even though you might want to!), but unfortunately Bethesda does not respect their fans/customers enough to respond to them.

I've seen some excellent posts written as a letters to bethesda and todd howard but, again, no response. Either because they don't bother to read anything on these forums or because they are too cowardly to face up to the people they have let down yet again.

They have absolutely no justification for the state of skyrim or the fallout games or for the disregard they have shown their fans through lack of communication and both todd howard and bethesda as a whole knows this. Please don't anyone respond by saying they communicate through twitter as they should be addressing their fans through their own official forums.

The issues with skyrim have plagued bethesda games since at least morrowind and there is absolutely no excuse for not fixing them years before now and also for using outdated technology.

Tweaking software released over a decade ago does not make it new nor does it bring it up to todays standards of quality and performence. For those who don't know what i mean, i'm talking about the buggy Gamebryo engine that bethesda games have been based on for years.

As many fans have already stated, patch 1.4 will be a watershed moment in terms of bethesda's reputation in the gaming indutry as a whole but more importantly, among the fans who have supported them through game after buggy game.

I just hope they don't blow it.

IMO, If only Bethesda would take more time than rushing to meet the release date (which, personally, I find not very good, since setting dates always result in rushing, one way or another) and do more beta-testing especially with the help of fans and the modding community, then the game will have less problems. That and Bethesda should ditch Gamebryo (the Creation engine is a heavily modified Gamebryo engine) and get another, better game engine.

That's unreal. Absolutely unreal. I will never buy another Bethesda product again, regardless of the platform. It's natural for big games like this to have bugs and glitches in them, but this magnitude, not to mention their extreme lack of customer service and information relaying strategies is unacceptable. Never have I seen any other game company act this way.

Congrats to the OP for an eloquent and well written topic.

After getting nine hours into the PS3 GOTY version of Fallout 3, and being unable to continue at all, I know exactly what you mean.

Bethesda just seems happy to release shoddy product, take our money and pass the buck.

Any other product with a release like this would have the company subject to a class action law suit.
