But that doesn't make what I have to say any less important. And my English is probably better than your Swedish.
You Bethesda are selling an experience. All game developers must understand that games are different from other forms
of media. A movie last 1-2 hours and if it's great you perhaps talk about it with friends the day after. Games on
the other hand, if they are great, we can talk about for hours, days and years. I played games 20 years ago that
we still talk about, me and my friends. That still gets my heart warm just thinking about. Games are immersive and
nothing else can even come close to it. We really invest in them, heart and soul. I’m not a fanatic, just a regular
guy who enjoys a good time. It’s that simple.
I started playing Bethesda games when Oblivion was released. And it caught me big time. It was a game made for me.
Then Fallout 3 came, and omg. Fallout 3 is the game that gets me going. That game speaks to me on a level that other
games never have, except a handful others. It's the sandbox, the free roaming, the world and the gameplay. These
games just work on me. That’s my game style. To get caught in the story and just let the hours fly away. To make a joke:
They make drugs that don't work this good. And I know millions of people feel the exact same way like I do. When games
are good they are really darn good. And then life is great.
When Skyrim was announced I got unbelievably excited. If not every day I searched for information, new videos, new
pictures, new interviews. And I bought at least 10 gaming magazines during that time. If it contained something about
Skyrim I needed to read it. Not every game gets me going like this, thankfully. My point is, I had been waiting for this
game for years, like so many others. But...
Like I said before, Fallout 3 is a game that I can talk about for hours. But after playing it for a while it started lagging
and freeze. Then it started to do that a lot. But I kept playing it to the end. But it was hard work because of all the
lag and the freezing. And then we have all the bugs and glitches. But I loved it anyway. I started a new character and
this time I knew what to do and what not to do regarding quest bugs. But after playing for a while the lag started again,
and then the freezing. But I kept playing it. At the end the game started to get to my nerves. It wasn't fun anymore.
Playing a game for hour on end makes it less fun, we all know that. But that is not why I stopped. I just couldn't
take all the problems anymore. I was spending more time troubleshooting than actually playing it.
Just like Skyrim I was waiting like a maniac for New Vegas to be released. Searching anything new about the game.
Building up huge expectations. And why shouldn’t I? Who makes two broken games in a row?
The game was released, I started playing it and boom, Fallout 3 all over again, but worse. I loved playing it but in the
end all the bugs got to me. I was a trooper, trying to play through freezing and lag. It was torture for my PS3, and
for my mind. I did not give up easily that's for sure. But I was again spending more time troubleshooting than actually
playing it. And the mixed feelings that come with it. You love playing it, but then it breaks down on you, and you
start hating it. It’s like a love/hate relationship.
New Vegas knocked my teethes out. So I have not bought any DLCs for it. You know, If I can't play the game what's
the point, right? And that makes me really sad and angry, because by now you all know how much I love this franchise,
if you have been reading this far. And I would love to be able to play the DLCs today, if possible.
Back to Skyrim.
Despite all the problems with Fallout 3, New Vegas (and Oblivion) I was again building up expectations. And when
Todd Howard told us that they had a new system for minimizing bugs, and that they would work hard to make
Skyrim bug free. Omg, I was like a fish, all they had to do was to reel me in. And they did big time. In my mind the
game was going to be special. My type of game and this time playable. No more troubleshooting, no more torture.
I again pre ordered it and, well, we all know the Skyrim story by now. For me, this is the worst one. It freezes
constantly and lag like you wouldn’t believe. And I have tried almost everything to get this game running somewhat
stable. But it's a mess. And then all the quest bugs to add to that! It breaks my heart, it truly does.
Bethesda, by now you have the worst track record of all companies when it comes to bugs, glitches and other issues.
All your games have game breaking issues. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Oblivion and Skyrim. I makes me wonder if you
don't take pride in your work? What is going on? Whatever it is, it's been going on for years now. And it needs to
stop. You people are a hazard to the Fallout and the Elder Scrolls franchise. No one will buy your titles if you keep
this up.
With Skyrim the eyes of the gaming world are looking at you and you are at a crossroad. If patch 1.4 doesn't fix my
problems I will walk away and never look back again. And this is one of your biggest fan saying this. A lot of people
have given up already. I'm soldiering on. But I'm also at a crossroad. Your games give me the biggest highs but
also the biggest lows. And I have had enough now. I'll give 1.4 a chance, and then I'm gone. It kills me to say this, it
really does.
Games are my hobby. I have money and I like to spend them. But you will not be getting anymore from me if you
fail again. And you will lose all my support. I have perhaps made at least 10 other people buy the games on my
recommendation (I did love you once you know). But that will stop. It’s like a snowball going downhill. People
remember and people talk. Years from now they might not talk about you anymore? Something to think about!
Either way, you should really start talking with your fans. I don’t see any Bethesda employee on the forum, talking.
And acknowledge the problems and tell us what’s going on and what your plan is to fix things. I can accept bugs and
glitches in games. But only if the company let me know why, how and when. All you are saying is when (when it will
be fixed). But then it doesn't get fixed. You ignore it and leave the games in a broken state. Why accept this? Why lie
about it (Pete Hines)? If you know how to fix it, why not fix it then? Release a new patch for Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
I would love to play them again. And people still buy them, and the DLCs. Why not support us a little bit, like we have
supported you guys?
Like I said, it breaks my heart. But this is it. It's all or nothing now.
To the moderators: The problems I have, and have had for years, need to be sorted. This is the Hardware and Software
Issues Subforums, and I believe the problems are related to both hardware and software. So I think this is a valid topic.
If it’s not in your opinion, please move it to the right forum in that case. Please don’t just delete it.
To be more specific, the problems seem to be the same as in Fallout and New Vegas. My biggest concern is the freezing,
that happen at random. I can never replicate them. The last time I played, some week after patch 1.3 released, the
game froze 5 times in an hour. Sometimes when loading a new area, and sometimes out in the open.
I (we) really need someone from Bethesda to come here and explain why this happens? And what they are doing to fix it.
If this isn’t serious business, I don’t know what is. Peoples money are at stake here. Perhaps even their consoles? Not
to mention your reputation.
So please leave this topic open.
Thanks for reading all this. I had to get it all out. And big love to all gamers out there. I feel your frustration and I hope
you can feel mine? Thanks.
