Eh, that message is really "don't pre-order season passes", not don't buy them at all. And sure, it feels silly to me to buy the pass now, when we've not heard anything about it's contents. Or any of those other passes they mention, that were offered before game launch.

But that's not an argument for not buying passes at all, it's just an argument for a little patience. Passes don't go away after the game launches, so there's no reason to rush and buy it. I'm almost 100% certain that I'll buy FO4's season pass..... but I have no reason to do it until the first DLC is announced/previewed/etc. I'll likely not get it until a couple days before the DLC comes out. Just like I only got the Bioshock Infinite pass when Burial At Sea 1 came out.

Not sure what the big deal is, other than the fact that some people are impatient and/or caught up in hype. And that's their issue.

I already bought it and I have absolutely no doubt that it was a worthwhile investment for me.

I bought the season pass already, and I'm not worried about it. The fact is that you never know what you're getting when you buy a game in any case. You can read reviews and get somebody else's opinion, but that doesn't mean you're going to like it or feel that it's a good deal.

In the end though, I have to kinda base my opinion on that pig in a poke on other products I've purchased. I bought Morrowind, and then Tribunal and Bloodmoon, and never regretted it at all. I bought Oblivion with Knights of the Nine and some other DLC that I don't even remember, but I'm sure I didn't feel ripped off on it. I bought Skyrim, and hearthfire, and Dragonborne, and here's the thing. I've already spent over 6000 hours in skyrim and it's DLCs alone. Add in Morrowind and Oblivion, and the time I've spent modding as well as playing, and I'm sure that total would be up around 12000 hours. I haven't even gotten to FO3 and FONV, but the story is the same...

If the DLC for FO4 happens to be complete crap, and not remotely playable, I won't regret spending the money for the season pas, because over all I've gotten far more than merely my money's worth. I mean, I took my wife to a casino over Christmas, eh? Spent over a thousand dollars for the wife and I (included the room, meals, and all) and spent probably 20 hours on a blackjack table out of 48. How would one compare a thousand dollars for 20 hours of entertainment to a hundred or two dollars for 12000 hours of entertainment that takes years to finish?

I don't believe I can go wrong by buying Bethesda games. Truth is, I don't even remember what I paid for the season pass... 20 bucks... 30? I don't know, but I'll never miss it...

I would usually back this statement up, but as someone who simply couldn't do without my Fallout DLC (which if you have any experience of, you know is always exquisite), I cannot.

It will be worth it, as is the case with very few other games, you are actually guaranteed to save money with the season pass. I have every faith in Beth that Fo4 DLC will be more than worth the price of the DLC.

I'm not even interested in entertaining the possibility that it wouldn't, I don't care a bout the Horse Armor DLC, it was in the same game as the Shivering Isles, you remember? The one that re-defined DLC and raised the bar for everyone, no, that's probably because people would always much rather remember and discuss the BAD things ALL THE TIME. I don't have a problem with people talking about things they didn't like, but it seems to be blown out of proportion a lot of the time.

Depending on the game. Bethesda doesn't have a habit of cutting content with intention of releasing it as DLC. Most of their games are full standalone game and the DLC for Skyrim I have greatly enjoyed. Bad DLC is what I would consider to be Mortal Kombat where they release "easy" fatality as DLC. Cutting contents to release it is a screw you to the customers. From what I've seen, the game took me a while to finish. Several days in total time. it's worth it for me, and I can't wait for whatever DLC they release next.

Man, looking at the value I've gotten out of the $60 or whatever I gave for this game out of the box, and considering the best of the bug-fixes and mods are still to come, i'll gladly pay for more content for this thing.

This. I'm running about twenty cents an hour at this point. Even if I bought the season pass and didn't play another second I'd only be at thirty cents.

I haven't purchased a season's pass yet that I didn't like...loved Borderlands SP, and Destiny was okay...so once I see a drop off in quality then I will make that decision on my own.

My understanding of that situation was that a lot of it was the PS3's fault. The PS3's architecture was not really conducive to a Bethesda style game. While both systems had like 512 mb of RAM, the Xbox 360 used shared RAM while the PS3 had it split evenly between system and graphics. That made it a lot less flexible. Bethesda games often needed more RAM than was available, so they had to do a lot of tinkering under the hood to get it to work at all.

True . . . but only because Bethesda let them make it ;)

Seriously, I have nothing but respect for Obsidian. I just am maybe being a bit facetious for the sake of providing a counterpoint to the incessant "Bethesda, why didn't you make a game the way Obsidian made FONV!?"

What, you missed that scene that you are obliged to watch in the first five minutes of the game where the guy tears the infant from your spouse's arms and shoots them!? How is that a "spoiler?"

Uhm... Yikes!

Sorry - we here in the States forget little things like that. To me the $100 bucks for the game, manual and pass was peanuts, but, sheesh. Now I feel like a heel. :(

I will only buy season passes with companies with a track record of solid DLC and generally solid games. Bethesda is one of those companies. It's no different than a subscription model to a good magazine or newspaper where I sign on for a years worth of content not knowing precisely what will be produced.

You are talking about prior reputation, but Bethesda has made clear what it wants to do with F4, which is make an altogether different game than what Fallout use to be, so they have already betrayed that trust.

Unless you are into linear FPS with some last min settlement building thrown in so they can make 'groundbreaking revolutionary new game' claims. Remember that? What ever happened to those claims since game release?

Luckily most consumers disagree with your position and Bethesda is racking in the cash as we speak using the IP they bought from bankrupt Interplay.

I don't like everything they did with Fallout 4, but it's still the most fun I've had playing a game since probably Ni No Kuni two years ago.
