Ponyhammer 40k, In the grim ponyness...

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:26 pm

Don't play the games but I love getting into the lore! My favorite faction is the Empire and as you can see, White Scars have a special place in my mind, while the Grey Knights are close second.
On the other hand, I think the Imperial Guard is massively unappreciated.

This basically but with the Dark Angels. I don't really get into tabletop (crack is cheaper) or the games but love the lore and the majority of the novels based on it. And I do feel that too much attention is put on the Adaptis Astartes and not enough on the other branchs for the Imperium. I would for example love a series on Battle Fleet Gothic (think Star Trek or Firefly in some respects but 40K). My favorite Imperial guard units are the Tanith First and only, and the Death Korps of Kreig by the way.

Here's my god list. (chaos)
Tzeentch
Khorne
Nurgle
Slaanesh.

Looks like my list but switch Nurgle with Slaanesh with on the chaos sides of things my favorite legions being The Thousand Sons, Alpha Legion (debatable loyalities however), and the Night Lords (mostly because of the fantastic book series by Aaron Dempski).

From what I've read, Necrons are now "Tomb Kings in space" instead of Terminators. In the old lore, the Necrons were puppets serving the C'tan. In the new lore, the Necrons betrayed and smashed the C'tan into pieces, and use the C'tan shards to fight for them. And they once sided with the Blood Angels against the Tyranids, and later parted peacefully.

You're kidding me. I knew about the whole temporally alliance (Matt Ward is something of a slur word among many fans) but was not aware that the necrons turned on their C'tan masters.

Wanted to mention them (cause they're awesome!) but couldn't remember their name. Love how they mixed WWI German and Austrian armor with advanced tech!

They didn't just turn, they defeated them, broke them into shards, use those shards, and are trying to collect them all, while rebuilding their empire again and try to find perfect bodies to mind transfer into.

Also, each necron world is practically an empire of its own, so one can make the background of their necrons into...ANYTHING.

I started out with Nids at the beginning of 5th edition, then Robin Cruddace ruined them. So then I started playing Chaos Marines only to find out Gav Thorpe ruined them a long time ago. :sadvaultboy:

Best way to win with 'nids is to have more Genestealers than common sense :)

I can work with there necrons being not just terminators, but turning them into...not Star God worshipping, soul harvesting death machines, put them too much in a lighter note. It also gives the issue that someone will create Mary Suecrons. When I thought of old necrons, yeah, terminator was there, but it was terminator, taken to 11, a force that causes Ciphas Cain to [censored] his pants (and he has taken on Great Demons), and will destroy everything you know and love. I guess what I'm saying is, the newcrons may end up being TOO diverse.
Didn't know about these changes (some interest in the fluff/books). But I have to agree with you; Necrons being an apparently unstoppable, soulless, unending ocean of killing machines was half (or more) of what they were. They were like Daleks, Cybermen, and killer robots rolled into one great big ball of impending doom.

They were like Tyranids, only instead of bringing terrible, horrible life, they brought terrible, horrible death.

I fail to see how one can not enjoy the most grim universe in all of ever, where you can crush your friends like butterflies beneath your boot.

All is dust!

'Course, Eldar take the cake in my book. That's saying something, sense the Thousand Sons are walking shells of doom.

http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu56/old_andy/newdump695.jpg

left to right: Cowbow and Tex, then Kelly pointing at something, doc up front crouching, Big Joe with his sun glasses on next to Crapgame carrying the heavy machinegun, and Oddball who's about to hit something just outside the picture..

no kudo's for guessing, since this is too easy..

and a few slight conversions for some of the other troopers -still need to be painted

Thread necromancy time!

I just started my first Fantasy army; decided to stick with what I know and went Chaos Warriors, revolving around Tzeentch.

Off topic: Can anybody else just not stand Eldar or Space Marines who don't wear helmets? Regardless of the unit, I make them my top priority. I've lost games to my hatred of the helmet-less.

I don't mind helmetless space marines, though I can agree that some of them are ugly.

And you said you've started a fantasy army, that's good I got some Orcs myself, I think there is a warhammer fantasy thread here that needs some activity.

That's an awesome way to bump a thread! I think Eldar look boss no matter what BTW.

I actually have the background for my Eldar (of the Anulikhan craftworld; guess where that name comes from) set up so that they are bound into their armor when outside of the craftworld. I hate lack of helmets that much.

I'll upload some pics on there soon as I'm done painting them. Sense this is my first Fantasy army, and is likely subject to change, I probably won't paint them as carefully as I have my Eldar and Thousand Sons armies.

I think its just that I don't like the idea of soldiers having any kind of humanity. They're killing machines; I don't need to see their face. Primarchs are an exception, of course.

Have you noticed they're always bald or have a buzz-cut? Also, I can't imagine chaos marines without helmets. Except for the bloated and disfigured heads of plague marines, so I see where you're coming from. The Imperial Guard on the other hand, always felt more "lifelike" to me.

I've personally been thinking about starting with 40k (money is the main issue here), anyways I'm torn between the Iron Warriors, Space Wolves and a Thousand Sons.

Well, I don't know much about Space Wolves other than that they follow the Adeptes Astartes fare of being a relatively simple army to command. Iron Warriors, as I'm sure you already know, are big on tanks n' stuff. Thousand Sons are different from other Chaos armies in that they aren't as resilient and are best used at a range with magic.

I think it has something to do with the implants needed to become an Astartes; I'm usually too busy slaughtering them to pay attention. Imperial Guard I can understand, as the Imperium wouldn't likely even spare the resources to protect their faces. I'd probably have an IG army by now if it weren't for the Praetorian Guard. I realize I don't have to use them, but just being associated with those goofballs would make me uncomfortable. I do love the Death Korps of Krieg, though.

I haven't spent days/weeks on end inside a Space Marine helm, but I have spent plenty in a motorcycle helmet. I cut my hair off before I started riding, but I definitely find a shaven head to have advantages. Probably not the designers' reason for the SM's haircuts ("Itz Cooolerz!!!" is more likely :P), but it works out reasonable.

The only time a Space Marine sweats is when he needs to release all that tyranid blood that seeped through his armor that is now clogging his pores.

Anybody know of some decent online vendors? My local shop has raised their prices for special orders out of my reach. I'd use Games Workshop's site, but the US version is incredibly slow.

No, they're modeled after the Soviet Red Army, who had the second best looking uniforms of any modern army IMO.

I was poking fun at their name, which doesn't fit with theirs style, besides that their both cold places. I honestly think they'd be a lot cooler were they a viking-esque chainsword oriented army.
