Valhallan Ice Warriors FTW!!!!
Can you still get those? I haven't seen them in ages.
You have the vostroyans I guess.

And Freaklore, there already is a viking-esque army, the Spce Wolves.

But they're so....silly. They RIDE wolves. That just seems a bit ridiculous, even by 40k standards.

Who the Space wolves? They're bad-ass, they ride wolves for crying out loud :P
And besides a close combat IG army would be nothing but gun-fodder.

No I don't collect, I just like the lore. But yes, the Vostroyans are also favorites of mine. Still, if I were to collect I'd go with the eldar. The White Scars are also pretty cool.

Regarding the space wolves, I think they messed them up. They seem like a mix of Slavic and Nordic cultures. Their primarch is called Lemann RUSS for goodness sake.

The problem with vostroyans is that they only exist as metal models.

My only problem with the Eldar is that they look human. Seriously?

Another reason why mine always wear helmets. I always imagine them as being a bit more rough looking.

I used to collect 40k, and by play I mean "very slowly accumilate models but never actually game". I did end up painting most of them, but my skill ends at "colour between the lines", so I can't really say I was in it for the art.

On the other hand, I did recently start playing Necromunda again. It's a great game and I love the smaller scale skirmishes. My Cawdor gang has been devistating the underhive with their amazing skill and tactics; which is to say that I have an unusual amount of luck in regards to bottle rolls. There aren't that many people I know that are into the game, but it doesn't really matter as we've only been playing one-off games so far anyway.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."
So, I came across this little excerpt from the Book of Lorgar lately, and I found especially the last part of the quote incredibly awesome. However, the bolded cursive part doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. Can anyone please explain to me in common English what it says?

"We'll use* the unbelievers to get the attention of the higher-ups" seems to be the meaning.

*How is probably best left to your imagination.

Probably in ways most unpleasant to the unbelievers, judging from the record of the Word Bearers. Thanks. :)

Space Wolves! FTW: The Vikings of 40k! Beards, wolves and ale!

Yes! the fluff, lore is truly amazing.

I do not play the table-top game but as a hobby collect, paint the space wolves models. I can upload some pictures later.

I'm sure you're all aware of The Bolter and Chainsword's interactive painters, but I came across http://www.freewebs.com/grimdarkness/painterprogram.htm the other day. Its a painting program for Eldar Guardians and Tau Fire Warriors. Not many colors and it seems as if its been in v0.2 for years, but its handy none the less.

Here is the color scheme I use on my Eldar army; they're what I imagine Ceaser's Legion would look like if they wound up in 40k somehow.

White Primer

Fortress Grey over everything except for the shoulder pads, interior helmet, elbow pads, the little thingies on the forearm, the two diagonal details on the chest piece, the cloth, the eyes and all the little round things.

Red Gore over all the little round things, elbow pads, shoulder pads, the diagonal detail on the chest piece, and the little thingies on the forearm.

Shining gold on the large round thing on the right briast plate.

Golden Yellow on the cloth.

Chaos Black on the neck and interior face plate.

Mithril Silver for the eyes.

I switch the red gore with the fortress grey every now and again.

Do I sense the power of TES over you?

He he. I actually once considered putting something in their backstory that resulted in their skin turning gray and their eyes red. :whistling:

In a lot of ways, my Eldar are similar to their Dark counterparts. Only they do all the horrible things the Dark Eldar do for practical purposes. Slaves are used as canon fodder and workers, and all the horrible mutilation is used as a terror tactic, rather than to stave off She Who Thirsts. Essentially, they're a hardcoe Biel-Tan.
