PS3 lag: explanation and solution

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:17 am

As I posted in another thread, I'm pretty sure this whole thing is, in the U.S., an illegal, direct violation of consumer product laws as established by the Federal Trade Commission. Therefore, if some gamer actually got up the courage to do so, Bethesda could be validly sued over the issue. Anyway, yeah, selling a broken product is definitely a violation of some federal laws, again at least in the U.S. I'm pretty sure it must be.

What they did is no crime, now if you downloaded the game free now that's a crime!

See how things work? Million dollar companies screwing consumers...okay! Consumers screwing million dollar companies...against the law

The opening line in the response to my tech support mail :

So... What pisses me off here, is Bethesda's incompetence!

Let me summarise my anger:

  • "This is an issue Bethesda are aware of" - Right, so they released the game without testing it? This is not a rare problem, huge amounts of players are experiencing this crap. So what, did they not test it? A playthrough of the game would have revealed apparent issues.
  • "This is an issue Bethesda are aware of" - As an alternative of above, they knew about the issue prior to release and didn't care enough to put things right! All they cared for were the big amounts of cash being deposited into their company accounts!
  • "always trying to combat" - But, apparently not at development level? They should give a medal to the genius that came up with the philosophy of "we will put up with crap now, and attempt (and most likely fail) to fix the problems later!

Add in the fact that the "support" was a recommendation that i delete the Skyrim cache, which does nothing to solve the lag problems, my anger at Bethesda is unimaginable to most folk.

Pack your bags boys, it's over. "Always trying to combat" that's code for it will not be fixed.

And the pot said to the kettle........
Are you insinuating that I have every made any kind of hostile post towards Bethesda?

You seem to think that I'm here to aimlessly vent my anger at whatever happens to get under my skin (like you).

Drogo, let me make it real clear why I'm here, I'm here to make my voice be heard as loud as possible.
I want these forums to be a storm of outspoken unhappiness with the PS3 version of the game.

You are not helping us, you are only distracting people from what we need to focus on.

Go play the game and stop pointlessly coming here to be an ass hole

I have never pirated a video game before, and never intended to... Until Skyrim.

Why should i have to pay another £40 for a working copy of a game i have already bought? Simple answer, i shouldn't. And when my new PC arrives, more thought will go into the idea of procuring myself a free copy of the game.

With the immense pressure they are currently under, they have no choice but to resolve this issue. The only way I can see them doing that is one of two ways.

A. Either be able to fix it via a patch.
B. Product recall, so they can take the time to properly remake the game specifically for the PS3, and not an Xbox port.

Lol, hardly. It will be accomplished when I get a game that I can play for more than 20 hours.

In case you're not aware, this is the PS3 section of Skyrim's hardware and software issues sub-forum. Need I really say more?

I have extremely little faith that either of you're stated options will fix the game.

A: They will release a patch. But i sincerely doubt it will fix the lag. If they couldn't terminate the LAG at development level, what makes you think they could do it through a patch?

B: Won't happen either. As with most coporations, all Bethesda seems to care about is money. Doing a recall would cost them a quite considerable amount of money, so the more likely option, and coincidentally cheaper, will be to attempt (and in all probability, fail) to patch the game.

Are they under pressure though? By whom?

By us, the paying customers they screwed. And how much do they care about us? Not even enough to acknowledge the problem in the first place. Not even enough to post on these forums.

By the gaming media?

Those clowns that gave this broken game stellar reviews..

Go to another gaming forum. Not even those bleeding heart [censored] at NeoGaf are paying attention to this, you'll find one or two posts complaining in the middle of 100s from the people playing the other versions of the game.

Everyone calm the [censored] down, fraud, suing what the hell has the forums turned to, if you're experiencing lag because of a large save file, create a new character and enjoy this master piece even more. And why the hell would Bethesda sell us a broken game, it isn't broken. It's playable and amazing, large games like theese always come with bugs and what not. And how the hell do you are you sure that the OP knows what he's talking about, he could be a troll for all we know, he just JOINED, and ever since the game launched more and more trolls keep joining. There isn't a game that's this large, with this much content, that doesn't have bugs or lag at the release date. The forums have gone to hell.... :sadvaultboy:
I think you will find a lot of people will just join to ask wtf is wrong with this game.
I only just joined because I was having problems so I came to the skyrim forums and see every ones in the same sinking boat

Guys ( and gals ) you've all been snookered.

This isn't a new bug. It's one that's existed with Bethesda's version of this engine since FO3's DLC was released. The fact that they tried to market Skyrim as being made with a "new" engine is just another indication of how cynical and underhanded this company has become.

They knew the bug was there. They knew they weren't going to fix it. But since it doesn't manifest in time for any reviewers to see it ( if the reviewer actually even plays the PS3 version instead of copy-and-pasting the 360 review ) they figured it wouldn't impact their sales. And they were right.

The only way to send a message is to punish them financially. Do not buy any product with Bethesda's name on it new. Only buy used if you have to buy at all. If customers keep giving them money for shoddy products they'll never change.

This will ( barring a miracle ) be the first TES game I don't buy. There was a time where I'd put Bethesda right up there with the best game companies around. Sure their games had bugs, but at least they seemed to be trying to fix what they could. What we have now is a company that is willing to ship multiple games over several years with the same crippling bug without even an acknowledgment of it. They've become an example of everything that's wrong with the industry.

If you can't get a refund from the point of purchase, pretty sure all discs have manufacturers warranties. I will certainly be using this if Blockbuster refuse to refund my game.
