I haven't purchased a copy of the game for my ps3, much as I would like to play it. Will have to assemble a new PC to play it in the new year.
Meanwhile here's the lowdown on the situation:
- I am a professional software engineer with years of experience, holding several qualifications including a CS degree
- Have worked in the industry for over a decade
- Very familiar with software design, development, and testing practices.
In my experienced opinion,
- Skyrim is broken because it is a bad implementation
- This company knew fully, absolutely, 100% that it was selling you junk. The problem simply wasn't missed in testing. That isn't how it works. These guys know their algorithms. They monitor resource usage as the program runs. They don't have to *see* lag to *know* it's going to lag.
- No amount of fiddling with your console is going to fix the issue. If your car slowed to 5mph every 15 mins of driving, opening the windows or turning the radio off would do nothing.
So don't bother speculating..wait for a patch (I'm skeptical) or demand your money back.
The game looks beautiful - I can't wait to play - but in this case, Bethesda screwed you knowingly, grabbing your money and knowing there was nothing you could do about it. I would bet money on the issue not being fixed, otherwise the product would never had made it out the door in the first place.
They are probably counting on the short attention span of young gamers.

either way it still turns to [censored] at some points
I was looking forward for this game.
