PS3 lag: explanation and solution

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:06 pm

Boy, boy, boy.... All I can say is that if Bethesda doesn't take care of this major flaw there could be serious PR toll to pay.

As for myself, I am withholding my judgement of Bethesda until after the second patch comes out. My logic is that they simply have to address this. A simple google search for "PS3 Skyrim" is already yielding hundreds of results pertaining to this very issue. Bethesda simply has to fix it. And I'm giving them their chance, and I believe you all should as well. Because I have hundreds of hours invested into Oblivion, and it still runs just as smooth as when I first started playing, I simply have no reason to doubt Bethesda's competency in this.

I'm coming from having played Arena, Daggerfall, Battlespire, Morrowind, and Oblivion. At least we aren't getting stuck in walls and falling inexplicably into some void. I think in due time everything is going to be OK with Skyrim. Just give it time.
Meursault... interesting username, my existentialist friend... welcome to the forums.

I hope you're right. Even my friend who doesn't give a crap about Skyrim or have anything to do with PS3s brought up the issue, today, all of a sudden because he knows how much I love Skyrim... even though we weren't even talking about Skyrim. News of this is so widespread, Bethesda would be flat-out jerks to not address it.

Bethesda have lost all the respect i had for them.

Their marketing campaign was littered with "it's as good an experience on all platforms" and "we're working to make sure all platforms have a great experience".

What they should have said, is that they will make the game for the 360, and do piss poor ports to the Ps3 and PC, and act like everything is ok. It's the standard in the gaming industry right now, but for some reason, i was dillusional enough to believe Bethesda actually cared.

Instead, i sit here playing other games, because the product i was sooo looking forward to, has evidently been thrown into shops regardless of the extensive amount of problems with it!

Really makes me wonder, did Bethesda even test versions aside from 360? From what I've seen on my TV screen, and what i've read on here, the answer is a resounding NO!

Regardless of whether it is patched or not, the fact remains that Bethesda has knowingly released a game that is sub-standard, and is not what was described in the marketing.

And due to this being a single player game, unlike the Black Ops class-action law suit, it cannot be thrown out of court due to the "multiplayer" agreement, where the online experience varies due to connection and causes the game to differ from what was advertised. Like i said, it's a single-player game, and so the expeirence should be the same for EVERYONE.

Don't release it if it is not the product you have described, or at least don't build it up to be something that it isn't! That's not too hard a philosophy to follow for genuine people. What we have seen here is the perfect example of coporate greed. Microsoft have the exclusivity deal, and miraculously, that version of the game runs best!!

You may call me bitter, and you would be right. However, i don't think it is beyond reason to expect my game to be of equal quality to that of a the "same" game on a different platform. We pay the same money, so we deserve the same product.

My copy of Skyrim now lies thrown in the bottom of a cupboard, along with other piss poor quality Bethesda games, and that is where it will stay. And my hand wont be going into my wallet for a Bethesda game EVER again.

I don't call you bitter, I call you a normal observational person who expects equality.

You paid the same money Xbox owners did and got a FAR inferior product. You have every right to be pissed and never trust Bethesda again, regardless of how well they patch this.

There's nothing wrong with being angry over paying for a product and it not working.

MrTamarian, please stop being an apologist. You're the reason companies think they can get away with releasing unfinished pieces of [censored] and you're the type of gamer who ruins the experience for everyone else.

You know what?
I was willing to look past the [censored] textures, the occasional hostile quest NPC bugs, even the occasional frame rate drops outdoors. I just want a playable game.

I shouldn't have to restart the game every 20 hours - that's not what I paid for and I've never had to do it with another game for it to be playable.

Every 20 hours? wait until it's every 20 minutes.

He meant MrTamarian's brilliant solution to the problem - Creating a new character and start all over when the old save inevitably starts to lag.

Oh, sorry, I meant having to start a new character.
My copy isn't even remotely playable after about 20-30 minutes anymore in my main save.

It's amazing when i think about it.

Bethesda was on my A list of developers after Morrowind, and since then they have been tumbling downhill till they fell down Crap list cliff with Skyrim. I have less respect/trust for them at this point then for EA.

I never thought it would be possible...

Such a shame Bethesda evidently doesn't feel the same.

Ps3 user's have been lied to, and had our hopes built-up, and then smashed apart.

Might seem stupid, but the day Skyrim released, was the best and worst day i have experienced in gaming!

The best because the game i had anticipated, lived for, and counted down the seconds to was here! And the worst, because of the realisation that the game is so piss poor. All my anticipation, all my excitement... Gone... Because bethesda couldn't be arsed to make a game worthy of release on the Ps3.

I bought the PS3 version even thought my computer can run the game just fine, I just like sitting on my couch and the controls were designed around controllers. I wasted my money. I got downloaded the game of a torrent and playing it on my PC instead. I paid good money to be able to play this game. I will never buy another console game from Bethesda.

solutions? im not gonna lie, the game concept is awesome it's beautiful, i think the first time i ever touched videogames i dreamed of a game like this. But, based on what we all have seen, bethesda hasn0t even acknowledged our problem. Theres a texture forum exclusively on the x360 section, theres more explanation in the pc forums, what do we get? "oh wanted to let everyone know we are working on something" thats marketing bs and we all know it. So dear fellow ps3 owners, i suggest we get our money back. there are more great games and even though this is THE game for me, i wont let bethesda abuse of our trust anymore.

Good for you  Glad you've found a work-around and didn't pay for the PC version after finding the PS3 version broken, like friends of mine have.
I'd do the same as you if my PC could handle Skyrim.
Just sad that they've taken my (our) money and ran, really.

They have taken our money, but we have yet to see if they have ran.

I'm giving it a month.

They should send all PS3 owners of the game a free copy of the PC version.

Have they even confirmed this yet? Cause it feels like they are ignoring the [censored] out of us ps3 users.

The opening line in the response to my tech support mail :

Hello there,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing lagging issues with your PS3. This is an issue that Bethesda are aware of, and are always trying to combat.

So... What pisses me off here, is Bethesda's incompetence!

Let me summarise my anger:

  • "This is an issue Bethesda are aware of" - Right, so they released the game without testing it? This is not a rare problem, huge amounts of players are experiencing this crap. So what, did they not test it? A playthrough of the game would have revealed apparent issues.
  • "This is an issue Bethesda are aware of" - As an alternative of above, they knew about the issue prior to release and didn't care enough to put things right! All they cared for were the big amounts of cash being deposited into their company accounts!
  • "always trying to combat" - But, apparently not at development level? They should give a medal to the genius that came up with the philosophy of "we will put up with crap now, and attempt (and most likely fail) to fix the problems later!

Add in the fact that the "support" was a recommendation that i delete the Skyrim cache, which does nothing to solve the lag problems, my anger at Bethesda is unimaginable to most folk.
