Game Informer update with Game Director Matt Firor

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:25 am

Matt Firor has mentioned that Todd set some "5 statements" as the foundation for this game AFAIK.

Uh, Matt said that when he went over the initial 3 page design doc with Todd, Todd was enthusiastic. I don't think Todd penned the original design doc. Eh, but who knows.. maybe it was collaborative.

Nope. The CHIM Talos used works retroactively as well. Cryodiil was never a jungle.

Yay for lore based retcons!

[censored] retcons. I want my jungle!

They use the same height-map so that hills, rivers, lakes and mountains are in the same places and they're putting points of interest, most likely ruins and caves, which it would make sense hadn't moved in the same places. They haven't outright said anything about the climate or vegetation.

Ruins being in the same place makes no sense - especially not in the warm, water-rich climate of the Nibenay Basin. Caves make some sense, but only few of them; the rough structure of them doesn't usually change that fast, but details like "Is it reachable from the surface?" do. Rivers and lakes change a lot in 1000 years. Most importantly though, the view of the landscape changes with the vegetation change; you just shouldn't be able to get the same kind of view from most surface-bound points. Maybe from Kvatch, the top of the White-Gold Tower and Dive Rock, but that's about it.

They are about 3000 years old by the time of TESO and about 4000 years old by the time of Oblivion, yes. They still shouldn't look the same in those two time periods; more of them should be still standing in TESO.

It is sad to see such a strong community of lore mongers know very little of the lore. Yes, the ruins would still be there.

No, they aren't. A pod Racing Game isn't any more a Starwars RPG, which is what KOTOR is supposed to be, than Redguard and Battlespire were TES games.

The pod racing game is a SPINOFF, just like Redguard, just like Battlespire.

TES Online isn't even good enough to be a Spinoff of TES, much less be associated with TES.

I think you and that other guy are just splitting hairs. Fact both are star wars games, spin offs or otherwise.

Halo and halo wars, are both halo games. Warcraft and World of Warcraft are both Warcraft games...

I know people like to be clever, but I'm talking down to the bone basics.

Redguard and Battlespire were both 100% TES games, they were set in TES world with full TES lore, TES places, TES people, combat style and view point do not make them any less a TES game and neither will it make TESO any less a TES game.

This. Resident Evil: O.R.C isn't any less of a RE game because of the change in combat style.

No, but I can read. There is more than enough information to know what this game will be.

TESO is just as much Elder Scrolls as the rest of them. Sorry that you're upset about the new direction of the series. I think it's amazing.

Wow, a weeks worth of info = put a fork in it. This guy must be one of the worlds leading anolysts. If you don't think you will play the game, why stay on the forums?

He's hated pretty much everything since Skyrim's announcement. I don't think this series is for him anymore.

I don't think you know much about the game industry and the history of games.

The only thing that bothers me is everyting pvp hovers around one area, there has been little talk about open world, rulesets, it's to be expected but pvp is the make it or break it for me, i hate holding my breath and then getting slammed of all hope of what this game might be, for the past 5 years no AAA MMO ever had a hardcoe ruleset...I really hope we get more information soon about PvP..I am excited with the info so far so we will see...fingers crossed

This is the future of the franchise.

The future of the franchise depends entirely on the success of TESO I'd say.

Not to mention if TESO fails then Fallout 4 will fail to-- wait... no that won't happen either.

I would say TESO has absolutely no baring at all on the single player TES future. In fact i believe it will solidify bethesda's stance on no multiplayer, we have a multiplayer TES on the way so they have no reason to go that route and instead will stay the course single player TES games have been on for years.

Wrong.

Skyrim sold millions upon millions. It's safe to say the series is safe for a while. At least the single player.
