Let's talk nudity

Some site already thinks Skyrim is a sixual monster. Of course, it seems that everything on that site is coming out of Mr. Garrison's mouth. Well, pre-out of the closet Mr. Garrison.

Like I said. Some people are stupid. It doesn't mean everyone else has to be stupid.

yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that we have to deal with the stupid people, provoking them for no reason would not be wise.

No need to provoke them, some seek these sorts of things out and will complain even if nobody does anything, or at least latch on to and complain about far more harmless, or even good, things just as vehemently. May as well be hanged for a sheep as for a lamb.

The thing is, everyone is used to violence, so very few people care that Skyrim is a violent game, but once you make six one of the themes (even if it is just harmless nudity) you could stir up a lot of bad PR for Beth

Also, look at it this way, if they include female but not male nudity, they will be seen as objectifying women. If they include male nudity, Everyone will call Bethesda a [censored] loving [censored], so the only way to make everyone happy is to not include it.

Those people have no more right to be angry about nudity in Skyrim than Twilight fans have a right to be angry that Dawnguard wasn't about a family of sparkly emos having suicidal tantrums in the woods.

You're underestimating the power of PR. Also, I've never heard of Twilight fans angry over Dawnguard, if anything, most of us are angry at Twilight for making vampires seem lame. But that's beside the point.

Anyway, adding nudity adds almost nothing to a game where six isn't the theme, and is again, bad publicity for bethesda.

There is no benefit or detriment to nudity to the game, it doesn't chnage crapola to have it or not have it. They chose to not have it.

I also don't feel like having to cross picket lines of "concerned parents" to buy my games.

Adding nudity doesn't add enough to the game to justify the controversy it would arouse. Sure, you can say it adds just as much as bushes and spoons in the world, but there isn't exactly a huge stigma attached to foliage and cutlery in North America.

I agree that for Bethesda there is much more downside than upside, when considering how nudity might affect sales and reputation.

My point was rather just that from a game design perspective, you might think of nudity as playing the same sort of role as bushes and spoons---as contributing to a plausible and immersive setting.

The problem is that "should nudity be in Skyrim?" is slightly ambiguous. It could mean: "Would Skyrim be a better game with nudity?" Or it could mean "Is it in Bethesda's interests to include nudity?" And there are presumably other slightly different things it could mean. Different ways of taking the question yield different answers.
