New thread is up. I'll edit this page in a sec with the link to the last thread. Feel free to continue bickering here.

ORIGINAL THREAD: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1388815-say-no-to-ghost-towns/

Alright, so here are some posts from the previous thread that outline my main idea and proposed solution to the issue of vampires endlessly, monotonously attacking towns and killing npcs before the player knows they're in the city:

"
Dang. Looked like the general consensus has shifted. A lot of you guys, LongKnife for example, have come up with some good ideas to improve upon this mechanic. It is a real issue when vampires kill people on the other side of town without you knowing it. I wish there was a way you could ACTUALLY fight back. If this is an "invasion" then why is there no organized resistance? We should have been able to train guards and upgrade them to make them better equipped to handle them and make it so vampires are less likely to get through the walls. It would have been much more interesting, involved, and fun than mindlessly killing vampires and never seeing the cities DO SOMETHING about it."

PROOF THIS IS AN ISSUE: A fellow Elder Scrolls Scholar did some research while playing Dawnguard and ran a little experiment to see how random vampire attacks affect the game. Here are his results:
and they will not do anything about it unless you report it in the bugs section.

They start attacking at level 10. I know they will continue to attack if you join the Dawnguard, but I am unsure about if you join the Volkihar (mixed evidence about this).

This may explain why I haven't seen them then, I am not level 10... started a fresh character for the vampire side and completed it before reaching 10. :ermm:

Interesting, but the attacks still occur after beating the Dawnguard main quests.

You know....it only takes a few extra minutes to foot it to riverwood from a close location i had discovered. I use the same tactics for possible dragon attacks, after all, i had heard that fast traveling to cities/towns creates more of a chance of a dragon attack, so i play it safe.

Don't be lazy dude. Whats wrong with putting a little effort into not getting a vampire attack? Nothing wrong about it.

And what if someone does not decide to check the internet to find out this completely unintuitive way of preventing a vampire attack?

*Vampires attack. A Master level one charges right at Nazeem*

Nazeem: Do you get to the Cloud District very often?

Can't... breathe... laughing too much...

81 lol

Interesting, usually the guards are reported as dead when you're level 81.

Your advice on how to defend against these attacks would be welcome. Constructive advice is more welcome than just attacking those that seem to get wiped by these attacks.

You should be, I regret it.

I like Dawnguard, but the anxiety around these attacks is starting to wear on me now.

that's ironic what you just said because i was thinking "don't they have any guards?" but i don't usually kill the guards or get in trouble very often so maybe that's your solution. not saying you like to slaughter guards or anything.

Now that I think of it during the beta I was attacked by vampires and a Dragon at the same time, also guards but that was because I hit one of them by mistake so I reloaded a save. Anyway during the beta I really thought the vampire attacks, or lack of at the time, were isolated events. I guess I was wrong.

I don't know why they didn't just simply make it so the spawning Vampires ignore town NPC's and only go after Guards which respawn and the player.

You probably shouldn't have fast traveled to them, im not saying that if you didn't you would never have vampire attacks on them, but i think fast traveling more to places brings up more the possibiility of an attack there.

If you want to fast travel to riverwood, fast travel to another location close to riverwood, and then just foot it from there.
This is lame, 'cause then it seems the game is now forbidding you to use Fast Travel...

I honestly can't believe they'd make DLC that can have such a big impact on normal game play. Starting a new character with Tribunal installed was a pain at times, but it's not like the assassin ran around butchering everyone.

Completely true. They made a DLC that is destroying the Vanilla content... :brokencomputer:

This will be my last post about this matter, but for me who have OCD when it comes to having lots of misc objectives and plans to complete all of them at one point or another then this feature is totally unacceptable!
I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who thinks about it this way no?

Actually, I feel the same way. I like going into town to collect every single Misc. quest out there... even when a NPC cannot give me a quest, I get annoyed. I do not want this crappy feature to own my Misc. quest givers... I want it gone!

Someone want to make a new topic before the post limit is hit?

That's like 3 threads about vampire attacks already.

One thing that came to mind for me recently is that aren't ash piles going to build up due to all these attacks?

On my most recent Skyrim playthrough I've been to Haemars Shame on three different occasions due to radiant quests and there are a lot of ash piles in there.

Post limit, and there are some flaming, rude posts in here. I'll be going through and handing out warnings.

This thread does not need a continuation.
