Say no to ghost towns. Part 2.

Personally, I think this is Beth's way of satisfying everyone who was upset with fast travel being put in the game like myself. xD
What? Fast traveling has been in the series for awhile. If they are punishing people for fast traveling then [censored] them.

Yeah, theres no way Bethesda is gonna send me on a thousand fetch quests without fast travel. A book for some blacksmith's wife is not worth an hour plus of gameplay. Game world is too big to not have fast travel. At least you have to get there the hard way the first time.

I think it'd be funny if every time you fast travel, you run the (slight) risk of three days moving on and you waking up (possibly without some of your equipment, which you can either buy back from a shopkeeper, find laying around, or ask nicely to get it back from someone/steal). You'd also wake up in odd places, alleyways, the pools of water, behind a forge, etc. Last, but not least, NPCs would heckle you for the next day or so about what a jerk you made of yourself.

It'd be like you got black out drunk or something and didn't remember how you got there.

Isnt that scenario Sanguine's quest?

Pretty much, except this wouldn't have you running all over Skyrim to piece things together. It'd be a momentary annoyance. The major problem (other than A Night to Remember's resemblance to this) is that it would require the game to differentiate between fast traveling from the menu and using carriages.

Also, I was doing this (and still am, though I rarely fast travel anymore) for fun before stumbling onto a Night to Remember. I'd teleport to a city, and dropping stuff, (or using telekineses to chuck it far away) and then diving into the water before trying to track it all down.

If I remember correctly, the whole idea of civilians charging in to attack things was something that Todd Howard showed off...
"Watch as these poorly equipped citizens take on enemies ten times as powerful! The ensuing slaughter...so much immersion!"

Ok.

So I've only has these instances happen a few times. On all accounts the Vampires just looked at me and left the Civies alone. Out of all the times these attacks have happened, there have been no NPC deaths in my towns.

However, reading that other people have had this unsettles me. Upon the third attack I thought to myself that this could become tedious very fast due to how common the attacks are at times, and also very annoying due to NPC deaths.

I made a new character so my NPC's were back in the game (and so a certain one would stop multiplying outside of the Whiterun Stables). If I can't stop these pests from discarding my NPC's like used condems I'll be having a problem I guess.

A tone down, or differing AI would be nice, to only have them attack the player and not the NPCs unless they are guards would work well I believe.

I believe it was something along the lines of "Since this is Skyrim, the citizens are going to be very protective of their lands, and instantly attack anything that threatens them. Even Dragons!" but he REALLY meant what you said.

The likelihood of it happening seems to increase with fast travel tho, even tho I agree fast travel is not the problem.

My only encounter so far has been in Markarth. The thing is, I started DG with a character I played last year and put away in the xbox cloud. On that playthru I had a hissy fit when I got the "no one escapes cidnha mine" bug, and committed genocide on the population of Markarth.

I'd just bought proudspire manor because I wanted my mage to live somewhere more lively, and I fast travelled to Markarth to pick up my gear from Vlindrell Hall. All the vampires in Skyrim would have no chance against Endon - he's essential! Another funny thing is that when I entered Vlindrell Hall there were 7-8 guards in there who all walked past me and out the door.

Reading such discussions, make me not want to buy Dawnguard.

I don't want to ruin my vanilla Skyrim with random attacks and eventually lose my NPCs

This will be my last post about this matter, but for me who have OCD when it comes to having lots of misc objectives and plans to complete all of them at one point or another then this feature is totally unacceptable!

I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who thinks about it this way no?

Sorry, but I'm listening to Ennio Morricone right now (Sixty Seconds to What?) and looking at your avatar makes me imagine a duel between a Dawnguarding Man with No Name and a Vampire Lord Angel Eyes.

And before anyone corrects me, I know "The Trio" is the track that plays at the end of The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly.

I'm a PC user myself, but just by reading this I can see how much of a problem it is. It amazes me how they could actually believe that this 'feature' would make the game more enjoyable. Truly. I'm afraid that this 'feature' is quite simply the polar opposite of what I would call 'enjoyable' and 'fun'.

And saying you're going to mod it out with the Creation Kit when it arrives on the PC won't help matters. I'll admit the idea occured to me, as I'm a PC user myself, but it will just encourage Bethesda to overlook the issue, and not fix it.

Hopefully, with so many people complaining about this 'feature', Bethesda will notice and take action.

Worry not! You are not alone! Although I suppose I have it worse, since I'm now too paranoid to enter any city/village for fear of a vampire attack! :bolt:

At higher levels the guards are pretty much screwed.

I have only did the vampire side, and I haven't seen any vampire attacks... I'm assuming it only occurs on the Dawnguard side? Does this only happen upon starting Dawnguard or as soon as you download it?

I am starting to think this as well. My vampire character only had one attack, and that was before she started the quests for the Volkihar. I am now leveling (the horror) a new character with the intent of joining the Dawnguard to test this out. Hopefully I can actually stand how I built this character and not delete him (what I usually do). Then agian, I can see how early the vampire attacks start.

They start attacking at level 10. I know they will continue to attack if you join the Dawnguard, but I am unsure about if you join the Volkihar (mixed evidence about this).
