The issue never has been and never will be the memory on the PS3. Why? Because that memory has not changed since 2006. That's right. 6 years ago. The RAM has been the same since then. It isn't like these tech specs just became public knowledge.
I was talking to a buddy of mine, who indecently, is into game development. He was saying the same thing I have been saying. If Bethesda took seriously the power of the PS3, and designed an engine specifically for the system, we'd see a Skyrim better than the Xbox could ever produce. The blu ray disc can hold more information, and if used effectively, can process information faster than the Xbox. If you don't believe me, look it up. That is just raw data.
The fact of the matter is, Beth designed an engine around 1 set of consoles, which makes good economic sense, but then used digital duct tape to make that same engine work on the PS3. Now the engine is more duct tape than engine, and they are out of duct tape.
Really, it was only a matter of time.
In order to get DG and future DLC to the system, they will have to completely redesign their engine. Something, they cannot accomplish without re-releasing the game.
Still crossing my fingers that the Sony Coding Ninjas can think up a few ways to make it work.
Bethesda will never build a game engine around the PS3, secondly Sony got its rear chewed by developers for the lack of memory they gave PS3. PS3 may be a great machine but in the right conditions even it can choke which is what is happening right now, Multiply platform developers won't waste money building game engine's that suit the PS3, either it runs with the game engine they throw at it or nothing at all.
