PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #28

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:40 am

I wouldn't read too much into that line of code yet.
Not to mention, since Fallout 3 the DLC sold to PS3 users has had a habit of turning an annoying, glitchy, buggy game into an unplayable one.
If we take the past into account, do we want the DLC?
I feel I just wasted my money when I think of what I spent on the DLC for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas and what it did to the base games.

But, at least we have absolute proof now that they use 360 programming for their PS3 games and just try a lazy port. We have proof that they don't even try to code specifically for the PS3 console. I wonder if we can use that against them somehow? Especially after all the lies that Pete Hines spread before Skyrim's release.

Well technically, the 360 has gotten both of its contractual 30 day exclusivity deals on the first two Skyrim DLCs. So the next DLC should release on the PC and 360 at the same time whenever that is.

As for the PS3, as usual we'll just have to see....
Can you please provide me with a link to where they have officially said this? I've been looking and looking and can't find it. Thanks.

It was all over in articles, Summer. The first two DLC were to be Xbox exclusive. First two are the keywords that they gave us. We will hold it to them as Hearthfire was the second DLC and it was exclusive to the 360. They can't really get out of it by saying 'officially' that they never said this without going back on what was officially told to us.

That just means they can release them as they see fit now. They can still choose to favor the 360. I think the only thing we can hope for is that they release simultaneously now. I don't think we can expect the PC or the PS3 to get content earlier than Microsoft, due to that whole "We either get it earlier, at the same time, or not at all" platform they seem to have going on.

Go back and watch Todd's release vid of Dawnguard at E3. He refers to it as the "first of two." This is not the only instance.

Please, Bethesda, do not start to play semantics and claim that Hearthfire was only an "add on" (as it's referred to on Bethblog) in order to call the next DLC "the second one."

Yeah, but I was just pointing out that it has been implied that the first two DLC would be the only ones to be Xbox exclusive. if they continue with the current pattern I wouldn't really care but I would say they were being a bit vague on the matter.

They can't say HF wasn't the second DLC because Xbox had it for 30 days. If they say it was an add on then I think PC gamers would be abit mad because they kept it from them for 30 days with no real reason to do that.

Skyrim DLC 3 debuting with PS3 Dawnguard, Hearthfire?

By http://www.product-reviews.net/author/alan-ng/ on October 17, 2012

We finally have some positive news for those of you with the PS3 version of Skyrim, who are patiently awaiting any news regarding the http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/10/01/skyrim-dawnguard-dlc-on-ps3-remains-dateless/ and http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/10/05/skyrim-hearthfire-dlc-release-on-pc-kills-ps3-hope/ release dates. A third expansion by the name of Dragonborn has been unearthed, along with the evidence that Bethesda may have finally solved their internal DLC woes on the system.
For those that are not aware yet, we can tell you that Dragonborn is definitely going to be the title of the next DLC expansion for Skyrim. The name had already shown up in file trademarks like Hearthfire and Dawnguard before it, and now further evidence has been spotted in the latest system update for PC owners.
The most interesting aspect of the discovery though, is that there is a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1417057-time-for-some-spoilers-form-the-latest-beta/ in the Skyrim 1.8 update beta that reads ‘$DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT_PS3 DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT’. Has Bethesda finally managed to fix all of the apparent ‘hardware’ problems that they were having on the PS3 in getting Dawnguard on to the system, which then caused a further delay on Hearthfire?

For those wondering, it is not uncommon for other platform related files to be found on internal PC code for the game. It could be interesting though to note that there doesn’t appear to be any specific code on the XBOX 360 in relation to Dragonborn, leading to some farfetched speculation that Dragonborn could end up as exclusive DLC to the PS3 version of the game as a way of apology for the Dawnguard crisis.
That’s not going to happen in our books though, as you can bet that Xbox 360 and PC users will want a dragon-mounting DLC expansion pack of their own to play. Aside from being able to mount new dragons in the content, we’re also hearing that Dragonborn will give players the option of revisiting areas from Morrowind and craft new armor such as Bonemold and Nordic wares.
Bethesda hasn’t made anything official, but don’t forget this is exactly the same pattern in which Hearthfire was uncovered. Bethesda has obviously put that line of PS3 code in there for a reason though – what could it be, or even better – what do you want it to mean?
After all of the well documented struggles, do you think that Bethesda has finally found a way to get Dawnguard running on the PS3? We’ll keep you updated with further information on Dragonborn as we get it.

SO...WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK???? I WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME FEEDBACK.

I think there's cause for some optimism, but you can't be singing "Happy days are here again!" Even IF we finally are getting DLC, that won't mean a damn thing if it doesn't run properly, and given Bethesda's track record on the PS3, when they do decide it's "good enough" to justify releasing, it's going to be just that: good enough. There will still be plenty of bugs, glitches, freezing, and other problems that will never be patched.

Obviously I'm not the one to be asking about this if you want extreme positivity over this situation.

I just tweeted Gstaff and Pete Hines asking a question that has a straight forward answer...yes or no...

https://twitter.com/DCDeacon https://twitter.com/gstaffinfection Can you at least tell us if you are planning on making some sort of announcement regarding PS3 DLC soon? Please??

i will let you know if they reply...but there is no reason to ignore that question....

This is all speculation. No, one knows for sure why that's there. It DOES serve to point out that Bethesda has been trying to force PC and 360 coding to work on the PS3.

Also Bethesda ended up in The Ugly section of The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly section of November's Game informer issue.

"Bethesda game studios still hasn't figured out the Paystation 3 as of the time of this writing. Both Bethesda and Sony are working on bringing Skyrim DLC to the console, but Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines recently tweeted: "There's on quick/easy solution." On page 35.

Hopefully more gaming media outlets will start asking questions and get Bethesda to open up about what's going on.

Finally getting a lunch break, so apologies if this post is rushed.

This is not just the stance of Pete Hines. Bethesda also views it this way. The people that run the blog have defended his statements.

True, but even so we come to the same reaction betraying that as bluster as well. If the kill cams and the mounted combat were truly viewed as promised DLC, why is the company still supposedly trying to get Dawnguard and Hearthfire on the PS3?

Can you please provide me with a link to where they have officially said this? I've been looking and looking and can't find it. Thanks.

Took me five min of so of digging, but here are a few links covering the exclusivity of the first two DLCs to xbox 360

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/skyrim-dlc-packs-heading-to-xbox-360-first/

http://hexus.net/gaming/news/xbox-360/31558-skyrim-gets-xbox-360-timed-exclusive/

http://www.lazygamer.net/xbox-360/skyrim-dlc-hitting-360-first/

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-Have-Fewer-Larger-DLC-Packs-36800.html

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/11/skyrim-dlc/

The article in the first link shows a snippet of an early press release about DLC for Skyrim. The last is coverage of a phone interview with Todd Howard conducted by Wired about DLC. Think its pretty well documented that the first two DLC packs for Skyrim were to be 30 day timed exclusives for xbox 360 at this point.

Now, you'll have to excuse me, as i didn't go find anything PS3 releases of DLC being scheduled to always be after DLC releases on the other two platforms, if at all. That i just took to be common knowledge at this point; seeing as how both 30 day '360 only' periods on Dawnguard and Hearthfire have been over some time now and the 2 DLC are both yet to make it to PS3.

Anywho, time to eat and take meds so i can get back to work.
