***Read**** One Time Ability to Reset Skills

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 6:57 am

There are many people that look back on their character & think why did I put a skill point on this particular skill. I can say I am one of those people as I looked back at what skill points I've used. The problem is that I cannot take back what I've done. The only solution is to start from scratch in which I will not do. I'm not sure about the other members on this site, but I think it would be great to implement a one time skill reset. In the direction I'm looking toward it's like in order to be satisfied in the long run this ability should be within the game. We don't think too far ahead & plan out what we want our character to be later on in the game. It is when we are a great amount into the game until we realize how we want to shape our character. By that time it's too late because we used skill points on things we thought we would use often, but seem to change.

I think that maybe implementing a possible quest in order for us to earn the one time skill reset would be a great idea. Think of this as the Discerning the Transmundane quest where we get a one time skill increase on a few skills depending on which of the three we choose. I don't think you could go wrong with this idea & for those that are a high level, including myself, can be at ease rather than creating another character to correct our mistake.

Agree, Even if it was just a scroll sold by 1 NPC in the game that costs 5k gold coins or something to reset skills.

Your character is created on the choices you make. Once its done, its done. You cant use a time machine to change things.

If you are playing on a PC this ability already exists.

If you really want to cheat, just use the command console to remove/reassign perks.

This.

"Gee, I wish I had put points in intelligence instead of blunt, I didn't realize it was a useless skill" - Morrowind. Or Oblivion. Take your pick.

Don't like the way you made your character? Start over. That's the fun part of the game.

And it would be incredible broken. Go smithing, enchanting, alchemy to make godlike equipment then respec. Then ofcourse, beat the game and make a thread about the game being too easy.

Lol, Beth tried to solve this problem of realizing you built your character all wrong by not restricting you to a class at the beginning of the game. Alas, it still exists and probably always will in any RPG game. It's almost an inherent feature of RPG's.

Choices should be hard, carry weight and their impact felt long after commencement.

However, if Beth wanted to put in a system where someone had to go to the ends of nirn to respec, I wouldnt begrudge them.

Im thinking more 200k gold, sacrifice five daedric artefacts, Collect 17 X, 15 Y, 19 Y, dungeon crawl and defeat F, G, H, I and J, seek the advice and consul of O, P, Q (do their quest).

its gotta hurt, alot.

and you can only do it once :D

If they did, you'd find people here complaining about how easy the game was to exploit... just take smithing/enchanting/alchemy up to 100 (can be done quite easily, through repetition... you'll even make money in the process). Make a set of the best of the best. Then spec out of them and into your combat skills. Best of both worlds.

Truth is, people are going to complain no mater what... so it might as well be you.

No one is whining, but only making a suggestion. I also play on a console (PS3). Once I make a decision it's done? We cannot use a time machine? We're talking about a game that involves magic. I'm more than sure you could associate magic and time travel could you not? Not to mention one of the shouts on the game slows down time. Why should I be able to control time, but not be able to travel back in time. In this case we're talking about reconstructing our skills.

To those saying it would be broken or too easy, the simple solution is to restrict the quest for a high level character. By then the player would have beaten the game or gotten extremely far. Anymore reasons why this woudn't work?

Did you not read the previous responses? A lot of the perks affect physical items you get in game. What is to stop someone from taking smithing to get dragon/daedric armor sets, reset their skills, and then reap the benefits of having full perks in other areas?

The game is already pretty easy if you read enough posts around here. The perk system is one of the few restrictions making you have a consequence in the game.

You can remove (and add) every perk using console commands.

There was a lot less complaining around back when it was just attributes;
Maybe this is a sign that attributes were better after all ? :flamethrower:

Exactly.

The only way this would not be a total cheat is if when you re-spec you lost all belongings and all gold.

I not so fondly recall many people whining about wanting to reset attributes, and even people asking about resetting their birth signs, back in the Morrowind days. Dunno about Oblivion, I zoned out of the forum during that period.

The game has a built in mechanism for resetting your character's skills and perks. You can even do it as many times as you want to.

It's right there on the launcher, it's called New. It gives you a character that you can build up anyway you want. I think more people should try it.

One more reason why its best to play on PC, where if you believe moving some/all points around is fair and will not hurt your enjoyment of the game, you can do it.

This isnt real life and its not MP so I dont see what the harm would be putting in some sort of perk reset; 20k for 1 tree or the like. Itd give us something to use all this gold on.

I wouldn't mind a system that was built around it. It would have to be one at a time thing, that also took several levels to achieve. The more you want it "brought back", exponentially the longer time it would take. I saw somebody mentioning a game with this sort of mechanics, and it appeared to be implemented in a way that "made sense" (important to me).

I'm not all that happy with the amount of progress we make throughout leveling, combined with the amount of levels we gain. So by forgetting one skill over time, you get to increase a few percent extra in another. Leveling becomes evolving your character, but now in both directions instead of a guaranteed one way trip. How about you actually forgot skills you didn't use and maintain? Let's just say that even if I'm older and smarter now than I was 20 years ago, I surely can't say that for my physical.

I think we should have the option ...making a new character to play the game a different way is one thing, but to make a new character to get rid of unwanted perks is ridiculous.

On a sidenote they could probably make it so you can undo one perk/talent at a time with a special prerequisite... like a rare shop item or a random drop found on enemies

II Worlds II had an NPC that you paid to forget bad traits. He was commonly found around Mage schools, etc... But if you had enough cash you could resign them all, and I thought it was actually a handy little thing to have. But ya I abused it, going from Mage to warrior !!! :celebration: And back again !!
