Real patch release dates and bug targets

I also like how open Obsidian (buggy, yes... side effect of pushy publishers, reused, unfamiliar engines, and probably not the world's greatest programmers, but very open and respecting of their fanbase... J.E. Sawyer even commented on thoughts behind Skyrim's PS3 issues while Bethesda never did) and Eidos Montreal (though relatively new, they really seem to love what they do and very successfully delivered Deus Ex: HR as a multiplatform title which actually seemed made for multiple platforms).
Technically he was speaking about why New Vegas had the same issue and it kind of got twisted in the media into him commenting on Skyrim's issue, but he did have the decency to explain why the game he developed (on Bethesda's engine) had the issue and why they weren't able to fix it. If you read through his formspring he's gives a lot of great insight into the development of New Vegas.

Bethesda doesn't seem to want to have much of a relationship with their fan base. There aren't many companies out there that take such a distant approach to their customer base. Any other major company would have put out an official statement to a controversy of this magnitude, even if it's just corporate spin. Bethesda seems content to allow people to work themselves up on these forums rather than get ahead of the issue.

If they fix the problems with the game they'll have done more good to repair the damage to that relationship than any amount of talking ever would.

I prefer they spend their time and money on action rather than speech.
It's not like the developers are the same people who would be putting out communications. They have a PR department. They have managers and executives. These are the folks who should be putting themselves out there and trying to mend customer relationships, and their time is independent of developer action.

Honestly, i know the PS3 hard freezes if you play more than 4 hours at a time on any game, But it should not be freezing on every other loading screen. ever 30 - 40 mins.

Sounds like your PS3 is overheating, fans are probably dying. Mine's endured 12-hour sessions (rotating users, not just me!) and never frozen outside of a Bethesda game...

My Final Words to gamesas:
Learn to utilize the PS3 for the potential it has within it. Be less lazy coders and actually try to put some integrity in your products. And finally tell me when you learn to code for ps3 cuz ill buy another product from you then.

Skyrim is actually probably the last PS3 game they'll every make, everything from here on will be on PS4.

I think the gamesas devs have the talent to utilize the PS3, it seems to be more of a business decision than a developer ability issue. Porting=time saved=bigger profit. Maximizing profit has created a new phenomenon in our modern capitalist society where products and services are (in a lot of cases) becomming less in quality.

Gstaff, before this thread gets locked, I again want to just say thanks.

Guys, I understand the frustration. I've been playing TES since release on Morrowind so I've seen some kinda shaky stuff, and I wish that the people behind the decision to release alongside the 360 and PC had taken a step back to reconsider. Regardless, this stuff(programming and troubleshooting issues on variable firmware) can't be easy. I haven't fired up my game for around 2 weeks in fear that it would be the death knell of my PS3. They're trying, though. If they're giving an honest attempt, and 3 patches within 2 months tells me that they are, maybe we should just take a step back as the suits who decided to roll the dice on simultaneous release should have.

If you want to hate on this statement, go ahead and tear it to shreds. Ultimately, whatever anyone says here will have no effect on the end result. If it gets fixed or not, it won't be because you're pulling your hair out concerning a post or two. This will be my last post in the PS3 hardware forum(I hope), and I just wanted to tell everyone good luck and godspeed.

just wanted to say this thread is awesome, glad to see others demanding accountability for an unfinished game that was rushed to make an 11/11/11 release date, the concept of releasing broken games then patching them afterwards is all too common now and it's coming back to bite Bethesda for the PS3 version of Skyrim.

I really just wish the game was recalled, redeveloped and rerealsed without any problems...it is such an amazing game and its so frustrating to know it will most likely never be fixed, just like oblivion and FO3/FONV.

What I love the most is how I called Betheseda's Tech Support, asking about this problem. All the guy could say was "Uhhh, I don't know, check the Betheseda website for future updates, blah blah blah . . . "

I don't care if they don't work in that department, or if they aren't informed by the programmers, they should at LEAST be able to say something about 1.04, I mean it is their job to work for Betheseda, so you think they would know something like this, and I am sure they have gotten a call before about it. It's just kind of pathetic how little they can say.

Also guys, the people saying "I'd rather have them work on the fix than talk, blah blah blah . . . ". Please, stop talking like that. It takes little to NO time at ALL to simply post on the blog saying "It will be done by __/__. We are hard at work, thank you for your patience." That is something that could be done in literally seconds, and not even during work hours probably.

You mean like the stickies at the top of the forum that say exactly that? That they appreciate our patience, they appreciate us posting about issues here so they know what stuff to work on, and that they're working to get the next patch by the end of this month?

And no - bottom-of-the-chain tech support agents aren't briefed daily on what the entire programming department is currently doing. They probably don't find out more than a day or two earlier than we do what's coming down the pipeline. It's only January 4, there's still 27 days to go this month.

^^ he apparently has the time to research the amount of GOTY awards, but answering a few simple questions in a sticky thread, that are raised since the release of the game? Now thats beyond his interest/abilities/whatever.

Customer support at its best.

Thanks for the update GStaff, it's good to know that some "issues" will be fixed with the 1.4 patch, would have have been better to know which ones are being worked on, we know that you know about the stutter but there hasn't been a single reply to a single thread or blog post that mentions hard freezing, can you at least confirm that Bethesda is aware that their game is crashing with alarming frequency on the PS3 and that this too is being looked at in 1.4 along with the performance issue or do the developers believe that fixing the performance will have some sort of knock-on effect with the hard freezes?

At the moment me and several of my friends have shelved the game as we're done with the hard freezes, would be nice to know if we'll ever be allowed to finish this game or if it's another Fallout New Vegas.

i would advise against not playing skyrim if you're getting hard freezes, that's not good for the system at all, leads to early failure, happened to my 60GB fat launch PS3
