Really disappointed with Light Armor Perks

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:28 am

I'm really disappointed that 4 out the six light armor perks (found here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1249457-light-armor-perks/ ) require that you wear a full set of light armor in order for them to take effect. I always mix my light armor with clothes and never wear helmets, which makes the majority of the perks useless to me, it restricts customization options from you which what TES is all about imo. I think it would be much better if the perks only restricted the use of heavy armor, instead of them requiring you to wear light armor on every place possible. What are your thoughts? Do you like them? Dislike them? Don't Care?

To actually discuss this at length we shoudl be in the spoiler forum >_>

Spoiler
This is true of the heavy armour perks though - you require a full set to actually activate the perks. And yeah I can't say I'm very happy with that detail, I like to mix and match cloth parts or even go without a helmet. But light armour in this way is no worse off than heavy armour

As for the actual effects though I'm perfectly happy with it - I envision making a fast and nimble character with light armour for when swift feet doesn't get me out of harms way in time, and thats exactly what the perks deliver; improved mobility

Especially since you have to wear a helm...
well i like helmets personally but i think more games like this that have helmets and such should include options to make the helmet invisible but it still have the advantages of being there.

Perks are a completely new system that offer us more damage, new animations, and variety to our characters. How can you be disappointed in something EXTRA?

Is it unhealthy to look at every issue and think "Heh, mods"?

Um...no they aren't......other than being manual and incorporating What skills should already be doing no...they aren't anything extra because without them there would be nothing in terms of making your character.

Get over it. Makes it more realistic having to wear a full set.

Um.. Only one of those perks requires a full set of matching armor (matching set). Another requires a mix-matched set of armor (custom set). The others can be used even if you only wear a light helmet.

I meant heavy armor should be the only restiction for the light armor perks to activate.

because they dont actually offer anything extra? perks are just a different system to give you the same end results(with more restrictions).
how is less options to the armor you wear more variety?
the only way the perks system offers more variety is if you cheated the level up system to maximize your attributes. i took many characters through oblivion and never had 2 of them end up with the same attributes.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed too. I'll also fond of mixing armor and clothing, and sometimes armor types, and this all heavy or all light obsession they have is a disappointment to me as well. That, and the primary heavy/light tradeoff seems to be protection vs bonus fatigue regeneration... without knowing the role of fatigue it's hard to say for sure, but it doesn't sound good so far.

I never said they all require a matching set, I said they all require a full set (as in you must wear light armor on every place you can), so you can't choose to not wear anything like helmets or gauntlets, which is what I find disappointing. As I stated in my OP, I never wear helmets or often mix them with pieces that have no armor rating (and therefore shouldn't restrict things like stamina regen preks)

Before perks, the only thing we could do was level attributes. Every level we were given points to distribute. After distributing them, we received an intangible increase to something- speed, strength(damage), sneak, etc. They were only numbers, but necessary to increase your skill and utilize restricted items in the game (spells, weapons, etc).

Perks don't just add extra damage. They add additional ABILITIES. Skills never did that. Some of those abilities add additional gameplay animations. Skills never did that either. Perks are also limited, meaning you can only take so many so you have to strategize and choose a path for your character. Skills never did that either- you could max them all by paying a trainer.

You want to try and argue that again?

I have to agree with the OP... sometimes you just want to go into battle with style, say Hircine's vest, some black velvet trousers, some boots and nothing else. It's a bit of a bummer when caution compels you to stick a damm tin bucket on your head for the sake of a combat bonus. Hopefully there's a perk for sartorial minimalism... either that or switch to 1st person.

Maybe the statement "if wearing all light armor" could be taken to mean that you can't wear heavy armor. Every piece of armor you wear must be light (or less). So if you're missing the gloves or something you'll still be ok with the perk?

That's my take as well. I doubt they would penalize you for not wearing an armor. Swapping out for the wrong type, however...
