New Vegas is buggy as all hell and people still play it because its a great game. My New Vegas game crashes like every 40 minutes, but I still play it like crazy despite that pissing me off.

then it may be a mouse support issue, as a have a special mouse for gaming (Razer Naga) and it's not supported in the menu. Might try another mouse tomorrow to see if anything changes.

I don't know but there's obviously something. Some report these problems, some aren't having them. Hopefully the Devs will cough up something helpful about it soon.

It would seem that the game has a ton of technical issues, and the PC has horrible UI/menu issues.

To people who have the game: is it really that bad, or are you enjoying it?
The GUI is worse than Oblivion's.

You can't sort items by anything other than type. The dialogue system is nothing special and is also ruined by the GUI. You pretty much have to use the W/S keys to navigate and press E to choose the dialogue, then skip with LMB, and what your mouse is hovered over isn't necessarily what will be chosen, even though that's the one highlighted. In stores/inventory you can't tell if you're at the end of the list of items or not. There's no indicator.

There's even tons of little failures such as no names of the towns on the map. You have to hover over each one, which is really fun.

It's just horrible UI design through and through. This is coming from a web designer.

Don't let these people ruin all the hype. PC gamers love to complain about almost everything. That & piracy is probably why devs ignore us most of the time. I don't blame them, look at this "feedback". Instead of true feedback people just rant & complain like children, it's shameful. I'm sad to call myself a pc gamer alongside with some of these people not all but some. If you don't like it A mod it yourself when the toolkit comes out B use a controller C stop playing D stop complaining & deal with it. I'm sure the controls are a bit awkward from the sounds of it & it is sad that bethesda neglected the PC version but can't blame them with these childish remarks. I don't know yet but I do know if I don't enjoy the controls then I can use my 360 controller or just adapt to them.
Please stop making our community look like a bunch of whiny children!

The UI is definetly cumbersome. I'd rather have unmodified Oblivion UI :hehe: Also mouse seems to move somewhat funny, but it doesn't hinder playing when you get used to it. And atleast for me the mouse is fully usable in all menus, no problem there.

Game recommende high settings, and it is pretty enough if you ask me, no so low resolution textures that i would have noticed in normal gameplay. It's a console port, but not a half-assed console port.

It would really be nice to be able to navigate the PC menus using the mouse. This is probably the most annoying and frustrating thing I have run into so far. It is counter-intuitive and wreaks of my arch nemesis console design. Having to use arrows or directional keys to move through menus on a PC is just BAD.

Other than that, I have not yet been able to figure out how to move the model for items in my inventory around yet. Right and left mouse dragging doesn't seem to work. I'm sure you can on PC, I just haven't figured it out.

Oh one last thing I really hope they fix. When creating a character, if you move the character model around to get a better angle on the features you are editing, the mouse will get "stuck" and you won't be able to send focus back to the sliders without clicking the next menu item (face, eyes, etc.) and going back to where you were. No big deal I guess, but a little obvious as far as console conversion oversights go.

Sounds like a lot of unfortunate things that will be patched by the end of the month (but annoying nonetheless), but nothing game-breaking.

More often than not with Bethesda, none of the glitches affect me. I always hear how they're buggy as hell, but I rarely see them myself unless I watch them on Youtube. Crossing my fingers that I avoid them again.

The game is great!

Most definitely,

I have been playing for over 12 hours straight now lol....

However.. YES, the PC controls are quite sloppy. It's definitely not a game breaker, but you will get irritated having to learn the very odd and unintuitive way Bethesda have set it up. I am basically used to it now, ad even though it's clunky and sloppy and massively console-fied I am getting through everything quickly.

And anyway. Mods will come to save the PC UI anyway.

It's just a fault. There are few of them. And an amazing list of AWESOME things... So make sure you understand how it sits.

Id say both. The interface and controls ARE that bad, but Im still VERY MUCH enjoying it. :celebrate:
Definitely this.

The UI is quite bad for PC, but if you've played recent PC games like Assassins Creed 2 then it should be pretty familiar, just make sure to use the keyboard as much as you can. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's better than Oblivion's interface was without mods

As for the actual game? It's fantastic :foodndrink:

The backlash was inevitable, especially given people's astronomical expectations

A UI tailored to PC on the PC version isn't an astronomical expectation. Especially since we were explicitly told the UI would be tailored to suit PC.

Am I remembering wrong, or did Bethesda say they were actually developing it for PC too (as opposed to porting it)?

I honestly don't know what is wrong with you guys' mouses, but I can easily navigate the menus by just using the mouse only. I admit though, it's a bit cumbersome. The cursor seems to move quite slowly in the menu even after cracking up the sensivity, and the arrows' "hitboxes" are a bit too small in my opinion. It could use some tweaks, sure, but I personally wouldn't call it broken.

Exactly. Optimising a UI for a radically different control interface is not unreasonable... It should be EXPECTED.

The idea that PC gamers have to suffer through an extremely unintuitive interface is what is unfair here. I am dedicated TES fan, I've bought all their games. And they are the ones I have logged most hours into.... Why should i be punished and ignored just because I use a different - and better - version, solely because it doesnt have as big a market share?

It's very disrespectful and unprofessional for Bethesda to disregard PC gamers in such an obvious manner. I was ok with having the graphics severely out of date, that's fine.... But the fact the interface is such a huge mess is just really terrible.

I'll just say, it is a Bethesda game. They are known for horridly implemented PC user interfaces.
The fallout series was a tad better.
I recall thinking Oblivion was so bad on release I didn't play it until someone came out with mods that made
the UI in that game more usable for a PC player.

Yes, it is very sad Bethesda could not be bothered to do it right this time around.
But, it is what they cater to. Gameboy platforms. It appears it costs too much to hire a designer to do proper UI interfaces for a PC based player.

Based on their poor track record to date, not a surprise.

As others have said, this game will have to be fixed by modders and I also view it as a game that will only bloom with mods.

So cool your heals and wait a month (yeah, I'll be playing it later tonight ).

It will be fixed up by volunteers and while I'm at it. KUDOS to all you skilled modders.

I have a few criticisms, but I have not encounterd any game or quest breaking bugs yet.
Nor any bugs that I would describe as hindersome or detrimental.
Some minor graphical issues.

The radiant quest thing especially is really great.
Im having a lot of fun running around finding people who have work for me.
Level 20 and havent started the main quest yet.

Well it's true to be honest :(
There are a lot of problems regarding the UI and mouse + keyboard setup.
For starters you can't navigate the menu with the mouse.
Secondly the settings keep resetting to default values when you scroll down them using the keys.(why would i want 360 gamepad option on?)
Mouse Acceleration is enabled and has to be disable through an ini file.
Vertical Sync can't be disabled from the menu and has to be done within an ini
FOV is too low standard (like 60) and has to be set through an ini.
Mouse sensitivity is horrible. Looking from left to right I can do it in one motion, looking up or down takes 6 times as long.

So people are a bit overreacting, but a lot of these complaints are true unfortunatly

1. You CAN use the mouse to navigate menus clearly you haven't played the game
2. The settings DON'T keep resetting to default values, you are talking pure balls
3. Mouse acceleration ISN'T enabled in my version (and even if it was one change to an ini file is not something you are going to have to repeat again and again)
4. Vertical Sync isnt causing me any framerate issues and therefore I don't need to disable it but if I did I wouldn't mind changing one ini file (again how many times are you going to do this really)
5. FOV is fine and again if you want to change it you can (do you have some problem with using notepad and ini files)
6. Mouse sensitivity can be adjusted in game as follows Press Esc, Settings, Gameplay, Look Sensitivity (this is a slider bar)

I haven't found any Trolls in the game as yet but I've certainly found one here

I read all these posts about the UI being effing terrible earlier, I have been playing for 2 hours now and to be honest I got used to the default keymappings after about 10-15 minutes

Trust me. Don't be put off by the pure drivel that some people are posting.

See, now... that reassures me.

Because, except for the font size issue where guns only showed 4 out of 5 lines of bonus text (which isn't even an issue on most guns), I didn't find any problems with Borderlands UI on PC.

I was thinking the same... borderlands (the game itself) bored me though.

The game looks beautiful, but the UI and controls are awful!!! They could have spent one day and made something worlds better for PC. ONE DAY! I'm sure it's fantastic on 360...but I'm never going to be playing that.

There have been a ton of threads involving essentially this very same discussion, despite the fact that reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

There's just no pleasing some people.
