Report update issues here [Dec2011]

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:26 am

Okay, I've run into two more issues:

Issue 1: I see people refer to the "Drop-Down Forum Navigator" (as in http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1320372-report-update-issues-here-dec2011/page__view__findpost__p__19866436), but I don't see it anywhere.

Issue 2: The text editing functions (i.e. bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, etc.) don't seem to be working correctly. Before the update, you could highlight a word (or series of words) and select one of the aforementioned options and that option would be applied only to the selected text. Now, that option is applied to the selected text as well as subsequently typed text. For instance, if I italicize the word "selected" as soon as I finish typing it, everything that follows is also italicized. Even clicking on the "italicize" button again doesn't change it back. Doing so also puts the cursor back at the top of the post. This issue makes modifying text on the fly completely impossible. Fix, please.

Note: these problems experienced using Opera 11.60

Top right, the square to the right of "View new content".

May be a problem with Opera? On Firefox highlighting a word and clicking "I" or whatever applies it instantly.

I haven't seen the spell check problems, the only thing I notice is that when pasting into the reply box you have to be next to the cursor. Before you could click anywhere in the reply box and the pasted content would automatically go where the cursor was.

http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq102/Starforce9/BethesdaSpellcheckerror.jpg It seems to underline misspelled words fine on other sites (Facebook). But not on the forum. It only seems to be a problem on Firefox 9.0.1, since I have opened up the forum on my laptop that has Firefox 8.0.1 and the misspelling underline works fine.

Aha! Thanks.

Applying text effects isn't the problem. Getting it to stop is. In http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1320372-report-update-issues-here-dec2011/page__view__findpost__p__19889551, I highlighted and italicized the word "selected" right after I typed it. Everything I typed after that was also italicized, even though I clicked the "italicize" button to turn italics back off.

I've notice it that too and that's a common problem, because it simple means that you're still in Italic mode with the cursor.

The only thing you need to do is to press the End button and press any letter just to see if the text is still Italic.

It would be cool if they gave the option to edit the HTML formatting of our posts, like the official http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-au/category/w7itpro :smile: It would give us complete control over our posts enabling us to work around problems with the Rich Text Editor amongst other things.

I can also confirm that lack of underlining misspelled words in Firefox 9.01.

The Elegance theme is clearly fully functional. Been using it all day with the only bug being ul.post_controls a:hover seems to have it's background linked to some non-existent images and/or transparent images. Adding

background-color: #2f4979;
opacity: 0.8;

would make the buttons function the same as every other button on the elegant theme.

I'm reporting this as an issue since the theme is on the server and works 99% and is yet disabled from being chosen in the theme selector. You paid for this theme since it's not a free one, why not show it off?

I'm just curious but have we lost the post icons and if they still exist where are they (I can't find them)?

Perhaps Exo's forum tweaks is just what you need. People who have installed it are simple overjoyed of what Exorince has accomplish with his forum tweak for Chrome and Firefox (not sure if he finish it). :biggrin:

Ever since the update I've been unable to post on the forums, I tried to log out and log back in hoping that would fix it but now I can't log in either. When I click the sign in button nothing happens.

It seems to be a Chrome issue, as I can still sign-in and post in firefox, just not in chrome. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and the latest version of Chrome (16.0.192.63).

The copy/past function is a little messed up. if you copy and then use r-click to paste, it works fine. If you use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V to paste, whatever you paste is put at the top of the page regardless of where the cursor is.

Edit: the Ctrl+V issue appears to be sporadic. Weird.

I've noticed this too, figured it was an Opera only issue. Are you also experiencing it in a different browser?

I get it with Firefox, paste with rt click-paste will only go in if the cursor is on the same line as the cursor. Not tried any ctrl-v pastes.

My avatar has vanished (could have been a moderation thing, it was a bit crude and though I've had it for years, I wasn't active enough for a mod to notice it, I guess.)

Now I cannot add a new avatar. Uploading a file doesn't work. I just get that red error message. Trying to upload from a link (direct link from imgur ) doesn't work.

Got the new avatar to work, finally. The uploading panel recommends more than 200px, and just that, while the forum rules are max 100kb, 90x120. Why is there a cropping option and a 200px rec if the avatar is instantly resized on upload to conform to the 90x120 rule?

As has been said, forum text is too small

And at 1080p widescreen resolution, the boards are too wide for optimal text reading. Talking about the Warrior theme. The bright background on the IP board theme hurts my eyes.

I don't know if anyone else has reported this, but when I'm replying to a topic (either through the quick reply feature or regular method) my cursor often skips to the beginning of the line that I'm typing. It's incredibly annoying.

So where did the option go to turn off user avatars/photos that the old forums had? I'm sure all of you using them think they're the best thing ever but they annoy the crap out of me and I want all of them gone. I'm here to read a forum, not look at the pretty spinning gif some random internet person thinks is just adorable.

The ability to set the amount of posts per forum thread seems to have gone AWOL as well. Come to think of it, a general forum/thread options page seems to be missing. Someone forget to add back in such a general display settings page for the new format after taking the time to worry about all the Facebook/mobile garbage and wondering about what I'm thinking? Sigh.

Yeah, it's gone. I assume that's a decision of InvisionPower rather than Beth, so nothing they can do so long as they continue to use IPB.

Well that actually works so thanks for the link to that extension as I was unaware of it. Should be a setting users can change within the board software without having to resort to 3rd party programs / browser extensions but this'll do until they come to their senses and "add" back in the features they used to have. Thanks Defron.

I still fine the bolded white unread messages on the black backround (TES forums) to be extremely harsh on the eyes.

Why is this being burned into my retinas?

I don't know what this is, but it seems to me the settings/signature in your profile isn't working as intended.

In one of the CD threads I saw a post and I like it, so I decided to have this quote as my signature and earlier today I notice a link was missing from that quote.

I knew what member had posted this so I search for the just to copy the link, but when I edited my signature just to add the link I get an error message saying that a signature only can have 5 lines.

Why is that I mean just click on the spoiler and you should see more than 5 lines and that signature is already accepted, but why can't I add a missing link into that quote is something I don't understand.

For members signatures are now restricted to 3 URLs and 5 lines. This will not effect those already up but editing your signature in any way will bring the restrictions into force. If I see any sigs that are excessively large I will be asking for them to be reduced and also adding the information to the forum rules.

On a brighter note, the new Elegant forum skin is now up and you can pick your own colors. :smile: There is a color picker in the top right hand corner (small icon).

I can understand 5 lines, but 3 URLs seems a bit restrictive.

Yay, no longer have to do a URL hack to get to it :happy:

EDIT: Oh, looks like some of the previously not-quite-right stuff got fixed, but at least in Opera 11 and Firefox 9, the post buttons (back to top, report, edit, multiquote, quote) still have a graphical error.

I fixed it with the following CSS

ul.post_controls a:hover{background-color: #2f4979 !important;opacity: 0.8 !important;}

As I recall, something in the css was being inherited for this and making it transparent (I've got work, so I can't bring up dragonfly right now to recheck what it was). I reported it in the forum stylizing thread a while back.

Thanks for the heads up, I love the customizable colors. The only issue I see is that the join date is not displayed in this theme, but it's not really a big deal.
