Sell me the khajiit.

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:07 am

So I'm toying with the idea of rolling a khajiit for the first time ever (first beast race too). Sell it to me!

The main reason I'm hesitant is that I think it's a bit silly that you're allowed to roam inside major cities when all other khajiit are barred, even before they know you are dragonborn. I could quite easily just not enter any cities, were it not for the fact that I intend to roll an archer, who simply has to enter them to buy arrows. And it's not like you can cover your face with a mask and pretend you're human/mer, because of a little thing called a tail. You may think this is pedantic, but I care about things like this.

Second reason is that most khajiit are pseudo-philosophical gypsy skoomaheads :P. Their culture isn't very appealing to me, but that's only from what I observe in-game, as I know very little of their lore.

Third and final reason: in Skyrim they look like masked humans with a tail glued on. I liked their looks better in Morrowind.

One of my characters is a Khajiit who is an archer and does not enter cities that have guards on duty at closed gates. I allow him to enter villages without gates, and you could buy arrows there. However, I never buy arrows--I'm finding that I collect enough from bandits and whatnot to keep me going.

I rather like their culture, but you could play yours as a rebel against it.

Can't do anything about their looks. If you are on pc, perhaps someone will eventually make a mod that corrects that, if possible. Haven't seen one yet, though--most look to be going in the opposite direction--making them more human like.

If you haven't played a beast race before, by all means go and do it. They are one of the big features that separate TES from other fantasy games.

So I'm toying with the idea of rolling a khajiit for the first time ever (first beast race too). Sell it to me!
They make excellent thieves! They look cool! Their society and culture are shrouded in mystery!

... and really, that just about covers everything.

The main reason I'm hesitant is that I think it's a bit silly that you're allowed to roam inside major cities when all other khajiit are barred, even before they know you are dragonborn.
Yeh, that sort of hurts the immersion. I wish Bethesda had made each race's social advantages/disadvantages in Skyrim a bit more far reaching than the occasional slur from the guards.

Second reason is that most khajiit are pseudo-philosophical gypsy skoomaheads .
That's the stereotype. It's not true for all Khajiit, just like it's not true that all nords are drunken, lunk-headed warriors.

... but I do have to admit that this is one small reason that I prefer Argonians over Khajiit. Argonians lead humble lives but their simple demeanor belies a cool intelligence that predisposes a significant portion of them to magick.

Wood elf would probably be better if you plan on being an archer. The Khajiit are better at playing the thief or assasin with the skills they start with. I agree that it seems odd that you are let into cities when the rest of your kin are forced to stay outside. But you will get guards telling you they are watching you and don't try anything while in town.

Once again, only the caravans are barred, not every khajiit. Problem is that the only other non-hostile khajiits are the caravaners, so it's easy to mix those things.

This, caravans are banned because they have an bad reputation, selling moon sugar and skoma and have some dealing with the thief guild, probably more important the compete with other traders and can probably undercut them a lots of time.

Main benefit of Khajiit, nighteye is very nice, they also look cool, better than previous games.
for archers, sneak is more important then archery skills at low levels.

Again, what is your source? I was under the impression that all Khajiit were banned. You see Argonians in some cities, but no Khajiits whatsoever.

I don't take sneak anymore on any of my characters, as it trivializes the game. Well, having said that, do claws get the 2x sneak bonus? Might actually be fun to play a khajiit claw assassin.

^ This last one is what I'm RPing, but I don't think the claws get the 2X bonus. But that being said no one gets close enough to my Khajiit to try, I'm an archer and I like to take my targets out from a distance. And as far as not going in the cities, I just waited till I had some quests under my belt and a nice pile of coin and RP that I'm now recognized as a model citizen and become Thane of that town/city, then I move in.

Edit: You also don't get kill cams when useing you claws, I was hoping for a breaken the neck animation or rippen their throat out.But sadly no.

It's the drug trade that's banned.(Laila talks a little about it I think. Several others do too) Khajiit caravans carry moon sugar and hence aren't allowed in.

I would love that as an addition to some kind of hardcoe mode, I'm treated far to well for this really infamous race full of a land of Racist Nords o.o

That's awesome. I have been thinking of rolling a cat too for my next playthrough but was wondering how I'd handle the gated city aspect of it. Do you mind if I borrow your idea?

I was going to make that joke if it hadn't already been made. :D

About the only thing that really interested me about the Khajiit was the access to Nighteye.

Night eye is great for taking out targets with a bow since it helps you stay concealed. It doesn't reveal your location like casting a spell and since you don't have to use a torch you have both hands free to use your bow.

I actually rarely use the Nighteye, I must be the only Khajiit player who does that.
The reasons to choose a Khajiit... good base skills for a thief, have sharp little claws and also the aforementioned Nighteye.
Also, about Khajiit and towns, don't worry. Keep Moon Sugar outta your pockets and you're free to pass through everywhere. But you can still have Sleeping Tree sap... right?

Edit: Spelling... silly old me can't spell Khajiit right anymore.

This is the first time I played a Khajiit and I'm glad I did. The 15 point bonus claw attack is handy, especially earlier on, it's more powerful than many weapons.

I use night eye a lot in dungeons. Plus they look cool!

If you don't like the way the khajiit looks, there's no point in playing one. Also, while I understand why people like the "beast-like" leg structure on the Morrowind khajiit and argonian, from a standpoint of realism, it makes no sense on an upright-walking biped.

The odd thing is then that nobody has any issues when my Khajiit -who is usually carrying a lot of Moon Sugar and Skooma around- enters cities whenever she pleases.

The lighthouse keeper of Solitude is a Khajiit as well, and you might argue that the lighthouse is part of Solitude.

I hear this quite a lot and no one has ever been able to explain it to me. Every argument I hear for it pretty much boils down to "I don't like it, so it's impossible". Biology is not my specialty, and digitigrade bipeds do exist (they're called birds), so why is it anatomically wrong for upright creatures to be digitigrade?
