It was hidden. The question is who hid it?

Maybe they're a lot more fearsome then we thought, and the Falmer hid it away so it could cause no more harm.

The Shellbug was probably like the Brainbug from Starship troopers..it controls all the Chaurus and has mind control powers, it didn't work fast enough to control Crim's mind and stop him.

Think of it like how the Snow Elf puts it, "Its quite possible I'm the last of my kind. It's also quite possible there are still scattered pockets out there."

Technically you would need 3, since it takes one piece of shell to improve it.
Meh im not planning on wearing it, and things with(legendary) after dont look good on a shelf.
By the way, are we sure they dont respawn? Perhaps they respawn at the same rate as ore?

Be careful he might throw you out the airlock.

Skyrim's equivalent to an airlock would be an Oblivion gate, right? Just do me a favor, and don't send me to Molag-Bal's realm. The last thing I need is a giant lizard daedra's penghis. We all saw what happened to Vivec!

I went back to see if the one I supposedly killed was still dead and it had respawned.

I honestly don't care whether it lives or not. After all, it's only going to sit there...

Are you being serious? I've been reading that they're the last ones. No respawns.

The shellbug helm counts, at least, as a part of the falmer heavy set (as far as "matched set" in the heavy armor perk tree.)

That made me happy. The heavy falmer set, as well as the hardened, count for matched sets (for themselves, but not each other. That is, you can't switch some hardened parts for heavy and still get the "matched set" additional armor class.)

I don't know if the shellbug also counts for matched set for hardened.

So I like the shellbug helm a lot. I run around in my heavy armor, with that helm I like a bit more than the "spikey mandible" heavy one.
I call myself "THE BUG!"

--------------

You need the 3 chiten to make one helm, upgrade it and then make another and do the same. So both of those bugs must die, so I have a spare.

I have a ton of extra heavy falmer armor, for which that shellbug helm also counts as the matching set, but my armor class in only heavy falmer is 1150 while with the shellbug helm its 1155!!!!! (I know both are way over the cap, but still... DIE SHELLBUG DIE!)

apparently if you mine it but stop after one chitin then it stays alive but you can still make the helm

I think that was the last one in existence..like the frost giants in the forgotten vale are the last of their kind supposedly.

No there's another one in a place called Sharpslope cave. BUT reproducing... yeah

Just found the 2nd one actually.
So instead you killed the only mate. Now their extinct because of you.
The species would most likely die out anyway because of their complete lack of genetic variation.
