FPS both with SSE2 and FPU with the 2nd build test R4 on markarth are 34 at minimum, including the understone keep

tried the r4_test2 (newest) it's SSE2 right?same place with above gave me FPS 28 at minimum but the stutters on the 1st person aren't that much...

I never had CTD or stutter w/ (fixed) R4 FPU or SSE2, but tested the SSE2 test 2 anyway. It was slightly worse then the original by 1 - 1.5 FPS (could be margin of error).

And wasn't it already determined that those people still getting CTD after using fixed R4 had unstable configs already?

Anyways, I expected after all those FPU/SSE2 tests that there would be stark performance differences depending on CPU.

But my experience has been virtually no difference on Phenom II x4. I'll continue to use FPU for the time being.

For everyone who is asking about oblivion boost - quick look confirmed that basic optimizations were turned on there by default , no sense in tryn' to boost so far , probably I shud install the game and check everything else , but not until I will finish with skyboost .

Thanks :)

R4 test 2 eliminated almost all stuttering for me, did a couple of quests, no ctd, but the fps is slightly lower (1-2 fps).

Was getting nice improvemnets with R4 under TESTING conditions. But a real gaming session revealed stutters and lag that I never had before. Rolled back to R3 and all is well again.

Had two testing sessions with r4 test 2 so far.

First was extremely stressful on the game: I used my level 50 character to get the achievements Master Criminal and Wanted - 1000 gold in all nine holds, and escape from prison. It involved a lot of fast travelling, switching from cities to the exterior world space, and running from guards by sprinting on foot and using Whirlwind Sprint, and sprinting on horseback. I lost count of how many times I crashed. Really, I gave up counting after hitting 6 crashes. But as I've mentioned before, I've tweaked the game to look amazing and play with a ugrids value of 9, so that's the likely culprit.

Second test was just under an hour playing normally without fast travel. I walked from Winterhold to Riften, completely crash free. I did notice that I have a weird texture bug again that I haven't seen in a long time though. Ground textures sometimes take a long time to load up properly - sticking at LOD detail until you're literally walking on top of them. I'm going to test this version further now, see if it remains crash free under normal gameplay, and then downgrade to r3 if the texture issue persists and see if that fixes it.

I'm wondering about my CPU... First I had very god performance with SSE2 test2 (I posted on the last page). So i thought i could raise my "Shadow settings" from high to very high. But now i have just around 30 FPS in my "testing area" but with FPU it keeps on the same line. Means, with FPU 30 - 31 FPS no matter what the settings for shadow are, but with SSE2 test2 i have a lost at about 5 - 6 FPS... How can that be?

Probably not R4 then. I took this shot with R3, and had these same texture issues on Vanilla. :(

I have the following:
Q9300 extreme 2.53
2x 280GTX
6 gig of DDR3

I have extracted the .asi file to the directory with the launcher file in it.

I get no change at all from the vanilla version.

22fps looking at the tree in Whiterun
50 fps if Iturn around and look at the doors to Dragonreach.

Exactly the same before and after Skyboost r4.
Did I mess things up?

Ahhh, my apologies for not reading the docs, long day and the brain is asleep.

And good grief, isn't it just marvelous! 22 has risen to 36 and 50 has risen to 60.
Wonderful stuff. Thank you Alex.
May Cherabim and Seraphim rain jewels down upon you from the firmament.

Top work.

Yep, that's the badger. I hadn't seen it before today since the last official patch was released. Chances are I just got lucky up until now though, and it's nothing to do with SkyBoost at all.

Just played for another hour, restricted entirely to the Rift area, and crashed twice. Had a silent crash to desktop while looking for the Quill of Gemination (found it though :D) in the lake outside Riften. And had another silent CTD while walking from Riften to the Nightingale rock. That's a distance of... well, not much. It's a 30 second journey.

Going to downgrade to r3 again now and see if the crashes stop. They've been very frequent with r4 test 2. Either my save file is getting too big, or it's the version of SkyBoost. I'll report back after at least an hour of solid play, hopefully two.

I'm willing to bet that the issue of missing textures is not caused by Skyboost. Those of you having issues, what uGrids values are you using? Any texture modifications? Are you on the brink of running out of system memory or vram?

I have 4gb ram and 1gb vram with a a lot of texture modifications, but I have never seen this issue. I'm using uGrids 5, since increasing it seemed to cause some trashing and general jerkyness.

Testing R4 test2

I just finished doing my test runs from Whiterun to Helgan Cave Exit back to Whiterun and I am very happy to say No CTD's occurred. I got up to go make a cuppa then settled in for my second run...

Whiterun to Markarth back to Whiterun with No CTD's occurring. There were a few times along the runs where the fps dropped below 25 but for the most part fps stayed steady and I didn't notice much stuttering.

Skyboost R4 test2 (No CTD's) W00T!!!
Whiterun = 38
Markarth= 25

After the release r4, crashes happen on the desktop because of the stop the video driver. Catalyst 11.12
After returning to version r3 crashes ceased.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300
ASUS P5Q Pro
Corsair Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5D 4Gb DDR2 1066MHz
Palit Sonic Radeon HD 4870 1024Mb
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Have you tried the Catalyst 12.1 preview driver? I heard it's supposed to be formally released some time this week.

R4 Test 2 is running silky smooth for me; in fact, this is the best the game has run for me since release day. I had the same FPS on the Whiterun stairs in R4 test 1 & test 2; the second test version seemed to run a little smoother for me, but both ran phenomenal with no crashes. AMD 1090T user here; still standing at a 59% FPS increase over vanilla.

Okay guys, i need some C2D(Penryn+ so won't run on E6XXX or Q6XXX, just E8XXX or Q8XXX), Nehalem and later ( + Bulldozer gen AMD) to test custom SSE4.1 SkyBoost build ( based on R4 Test2, so please compare to baselines of R4 T2 or R3 ).

Of course, I understand Skyrim has priority and wish you all the best in Skyboost development!

Given the phenomenal results you're getting -and that even a few fps gain would make a great difference for many heavily modded setups-
I look forward to see some of your magic replicated in good old Oblivion :)

Tested the r4 test2 for over 2 hours gameplay. Nothing to report. No ctd or stuttering. Its simply perfect, till now, like test1 was (SSE2).

Will continue testing it tonight. All ok till now, doing normally any kind of stuffs in game.

GoodJob again !

Been running R4 test 2 for 2.5 hours, no CTDs. New mage character, so throwing lots of firebolt / ice spike around without issue. Most stressful part of the testing was running through Dustman's Cairn, which has the odd spot that really taxes fps (for no apparent reason, e.g. one spot near to a big spider that brings my framerate down from 60 vsync limited to around 38) but the game seemed to be fine. Lots of area transitions, plus a bit of world map hopping.

Run on an i7 2600k @ 4.6Ghz, gtx560ti sli set up.

Edit - just saw the comment re: oblivion not needing skyboost equivalent as much - I guess this either means that this was on oversight for Skyrim on Bethesda's part, or else compiling with full optimisation really did cause some issues for them.

Now its definitely 4.1, finally i can see dpps ))

@@@
In order to run compilation by DariusD ur cpu MUST support sse4.1 , so no AMDs

And even more useless for Q6600 as its SSE3 performance was not that great, it took Penryn and Nehalem for SSE3 to start to make sense.

we can agree on that atleast :D
