SkyBoost (topic 6)

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 12:37 pm

Im playing R4 - FPU version of Alexander mod and all is ok.

Framerate around 40fps with all settings maxed out and few other mods including Skyrim HD high texture mod
and Realistic Lightning in latest versions installed through Nexus mod manager.

Im playing with 1900x1200 resolution on medium-class rig.
My rig:
Intel Quad Q9550 -2.98Mhz
4gb ram GoodRam (around 800mhz)
Geforce 560gtx

Yesterday i have some problems with stuttering from time to time when i enter interior then leave outside.
I don't know if that have something to do with Skyboost, just want to inform.
It looks like 40fps then enter some interior and go outside after few minutes and have around 10 fps.
I think that may be something with latest patch becouse on previous version of Skyrim problem doesn't occur.
It may be something with cleaning cells, kind of standard problem of Gamebryo engine (still present in Skyrim under another name and
sligthly modified). When i made ALT + TAB then back to game problem with FPS goes away and i have again 40 fps.

Yep. Sorry :(

With r4 SSE2 on my i7 I crash occasionally when I'm fighting mages. As soon as they raise their hands to start casting something magical, my game freezes. The solution is to ctrl+alt+del, force the program to close, reload and try again, when it usually works. But it's pretty frequent, and always when a mage is casting something. I mentioned this yesterday and said I would downgrade to r3 and see if that solved the issue.

It does solve the issue. Played for 3 hours straight last night, crash and freeze free, fighting countless casters. So I have no idea why, but r4 SSE2 does make my game more unstable around magic.

I'm going to play a lot more today with r3 just to see if I got lucky last night. I'll post later on to let you know how it goes.

UPDATE: Scratch all that, just had another freeze against a caster enemy with r3. So it's my setup that's the issue, not SkyBoost at all. I'm a graphics junkie, running with very demanding settings, and ugrids=9, so these freezes are most likely due to that. SkyBoost just allows me to enjoy a 60fps experience when my game isn't crashing :)

Excellent work !

Ive gone from 19 fps (vanilla) looking at whiterun tree to 29 fps (r4 Se2 ver). Taking my game game from barely playable to very enjoyable !

Settings are on ultra (except for shadows= high) with uGrids to load = 7

Also somehow r4 eliminated the annoying tree/shrub strobing/flickering i was experiencing when moving This was present in the vanilla game for me and also in r3. I dont know you solved it (and it may have been a accident) but its amazing !. I had this problem in other games so it sounds like you have adjusted a setting that is causing the cpu to interact with the gpu rendering of tree/shrub shadows in a new and improved way.

My gpu use as measured with msi afterburner has gone from average 55 % to now 65-70%. Im also now experiencing 100% gpu usage in swampland surrounding Morthal. all micro stuttering is now gone and no ctds thus far.

Basically you have done more to improve my skyrim playing experience than 3-4 expansion packs would have done ! Thank you !

:celebration: :celebration: :celebration: :celebration:

my specs

intel Q6600 @ 2.7ghz OC.
3 gb Ram
Win 7 64 bit
Nvidia MSI 560ti twin frozer II GPU

Also

You may want to make the new r4 readme a little clearer in regards to where to place the "dinput8.dll" and "SkyBoost.asi" files. As people could read it as you copy the bin and sse2 folders into the skyrim directory.

You could change the read me from
- Copy "bin\dinput8.dll" to Skyrim dir (dinput8.dll is the same as in ScriptDragon)
- Copy "bin\fpu\SkyBoost.asi" for AMD cpus OR "bin\sse2\SkyBoost.asi" for INTELL cpus to Skyrim dir

to

- Copy "bin\dinput8.dll" to Skyrim dir (dinput8.dll is the same as in ScriptDragon)
- Copy "bin\fpu\SkyBoost.asi" for AMD cpus OR "bin\sse2\SkyBoost.asi" for INTELL cpus to Skyrim dir.
- dinput8.dll and SkyBoost.asi should end up in the main Skyrim Directory where TESV.exe is located (not skyrim\bin or skyrim\bin\fpu or sse2 directory's)

Try to reach the end of this dungeon (where is a door to Blackreach located) without crashes. Last time my game crashes at two rooms before it.
only one of them has this bug disabled , I need to know which one it is http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1237747/test_r4.7z
I have no problem at all with first four of this seven compilations. But, maybe, need more then 0,5 hour playing for more accurate test.

HW is i5/580/16GB, using ram disk.

Btw, first post on the forum. :)

Darkstorne, What hardware and OS do you have? If you set game graphic settings a lot more than recommended by launcher, of course, you may have some troubles.

i7 2600k @4.4ghz
16GB RAM
2GB GTX560 Ti x2 in SLI
240GB SSD

I'm pretty sure it's the ugrids value that causes me to freeze, but since it only happens against casters every now and again I can easily play for hours before I have to reload the game. I love the view distance so much it's worth the tradeoff for me, and SkyBoost allows me to get a 50-60fps game at all times.

I'm a happy bunny ^_^

I got CTD in the Abandoned House in Markarth.

Is this definitely caused by SkyBoost though? Does it happen every time you enter the house? Does it still happen without SkyBoost?

R4 sse2 brings me freeze (and I must quit the game) with few fireballs. I also experienced it with thunder.

I also experienced some "rare" strange behaviour with NPC reactions. Like they are freeze too before deciding to make an action.
For example, dragons will stop in the air in front of you, normally fire something in your direction, but with R4, there's 3-4 seconds before that action.
For this, I have to double check it.

Sorry if I'm not clear.

Interesting. We both freeze with magic, and we both have the same cards. I still have the issue with r3 though, so I'm inclined to believe SkyBoost isn't the cause atm.

Hi all,

I've been testing the Skyboost and I must say I was baffled by the performance improvement!!

System:
i5 2400; Nvida GTX 470; 4gb mem

the FPS improvements are from 10 to 15 fps (from 20's to 30's) in most cpu intensive areas (markarth, whiterun top of the stairs, etc)

Thank you for it!

Hello

Started using this mod r4 (SSE2) for my Skyrim 1.3.10 with graphics enhancing mods loaded via Nexus Mod Manager + SKSE.

I could say I was seeing a definite improvement until I got into Chillwind Depths. There are (glowing) spider webs on the walls and as soon as they are in sight, the FPS drops below anything playable -which was something I've never experienced that low.

Also once, when I closed the map, the game stuttered for about 3-5 seconds -heavy FPS drop- but picked up eventually.

Is there anybody else who are using gfx mods (Skyrim HD) and experienced heavy FPS drop in Chillwind Depths on SkyBoost r4 ?

@Alexander

Good to see Skyboost finally up at the nexus: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6058

But the description is poor and not informative. Examples, there are no install instructions for new users or links to the Beth forum.

Maybe you could have ysne58 maintain the nexus page for you, he/she did a great job w/ tesval. Something to think about if you're short on time.

What happens in Chillwind when you remove skyboost? I'm guessing you'll still get the huge FPS hit.

No CTD that can be attributed to skyboost here.

I'm OK with R3... and around 40 hours...
I don't believe that SkyBoost has anything to do with our graphic card (drivers are 290.53 if that makes a difference between us).

I got stutter there (chillwind) before without skyboost. Looks like its something with the lightning there like in other indoor areas

Well I have cleared the area with a lot of trouble and I tend to think that the FPS hit was irrelevant to SkyBoost. That area has weird indoors indeed.
