Skyrim as escapism

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:32 am

What if Skyrim does mean something? What if Skyrim means that the Dragons are gonna return in 2012, Year of the Dragon? What if the End of the World prediction in 2012 is true? And all of this are connected? What if I'm saying all of this in a sarcasmic way? What if I am not?

That's not going to happen.

That's generally why people play games like this, why else would someone sink 100s of hours into something that means absolutely nothing and has no bearing on reality?

I hope you don't think that way of all fiction.

It's a great way to procrastinate too with tax time coming. Tonight I had some laughs...for some reason a goat was hostile and marked red. I watched as the Dremora Lord chased that goat down the road until he caught him and asked him if he was prepared for his death. I almost died laughing. :D :tes:

All gaming is escapism. As are books, movies, TV shows, sports, and most any pastime or hobby you can think of. Whatever takes your mind off the daily grind, is escapism. 's all good.

Not really. The majority of people does these things for fun, not to escape from something.

Fun is an escape from the horrors and hardships that constitute our everyday lives.

Well I can't slay dragons in real life.... I also have NO POWER in real life compared to what I have in Skyrim. I mean I alone basically ended the civil war....

Dunno about majorities, but you are right that not all people are escaping from something when they enjoy their hobbies and pastimes. Generalizations svck.

Point I am (badly) trying to make is that Skyrim is a bloody godsend for me at the moment, tough times in life and it really is seeing me through it. Dont see enough of my kids/messy break up blah blah blah, lose myself in Skyrim and forget it all for a few hours, best 40 quid I have ever spent

Me too.

Has been very helpful the past few months.

Not always though. Most of the time, yes but not always.

That is why I play games for some escapism and TES is the very best at getting you lost in another world.

Tell your mother to eat Apple Seeds and Apricot Seeds. It has been proven that they can cure cancer. Sorry about going off-topic but I did so cause it may save a life.

Can you just buy the seeds? If so where do you get them?

Thank you, shes pretty far gone now though, stage 4 I believe. I don't think she will recover this time. It's her second bout with colon cancer. That [censored] is serious. People should never be afraid to get check ups. Catching it early is the key.

Sorry to go off topic, but it just better shows how a game can be used to escape real life.

Yes, every day.
Real life is escapism.
Actually, it functions both ways for me. Playing Skyrim helps me escaping real life issues and dealing with real life issues helps me escaping the addictive effect Skyrim has on me.

Yes. It temporarily relieves me of overthinking, getting over my abusive ex, and the subsequent pain of working out until breaking point.

Aloe vera apparently works wonders too. Some people regard it as a myth, but I'm not quite so sure after a family friend recovered from years of cancer after he started taking a spoon of aloe vera juice every day.

The man had been sick for ages and ages, and the doctors told him he had only a few months left. He thought he might as well try it since others had said aloe vera is healthy and regenerating, and two months later he had recovered tremendously. Still had to take all the other medication, of course, but it's worth a shot, eh?
