Skyrim as escapism

I agree, TES games are a world to escape to, each game with it's own flavour and atmosphere.

All video gaming is a form of escapism. Just don't make the mistake of using gaming to hide from what needs addressing in the real world. ;)

Much easier to make sense of, atleast. That's the guy who works for Belethor at general goods store, and won't shut up about it. That's the guy who gets to the cloud district very often, and won't shut up about it. That's the guy... :P

Nah, i'm only in it for the Dragon slaying. And the beautiful sights and sounds :ooo: ...But i suppose that counts for escapism, considering how dreary the view from window is at this time of the year :(

After spending hours each week listening to people rant that those who disagree with them (on any subject) are misogynistic, bigoted, hedonist monsters I -need- to come home and beat the living snot out of bandits, zombies, and dragons. Thank you TES for keeping me sane - or something close to it.

I play games because I enjoy playing them. I finished a succesful 5-year run in WoW last year, followed by 8-9 months of Rift.

Been playing Skyrim since release and I'm now waiting for D3 - which various rumors have it being within 2 months of release.

My life is great, I'm retired, and play throughout the day and into the late evening, with a number of breaks fitted in aboutt every 2 hours or so. My wife is retired, too, and also plays, although her taste in games is the Sims 1/2/3.

I didn't buy Skyrim for the sole reason of escaping reality, but I am guilty of using it for that more often than not. My life isn't the best at the moment, I ended up repeating a year at school, my sister has a serious eating disorder, my mum seems distant all the time, my dad disinterested, and I got diagnosed with a chronic illness and then chronic depression. Skyrim is a nice way to escape, late at night with all the lights off. I bought Morrowind on the PC recently and I especially like the CS. Shaping the world how I want it to be and all that.

It's a great way to procrastinate too with tax time coming. Tonight I had some laughs...for some reason a goat was hostile and marked red. I watched as the Dremora Lord chased that goat down the road until he caught him and asked him if he was prepared for his death. I almost died laughing. :tes:

I get strange hostile stuff sometimes: the other day a deer hostiled me from so far that his red dot was pale !

Tell your mother to eat Apple Seeds and Apricot Seeds. It has been proven that they can cure cancer. Sorry about going off-topic but I did so cause it may save a life.
Sources please. Last I've learned in school, apple and especially Apricot seeds contain cyanogenic glycosides, which are hazardous to your health.

Yep. I'm weird. Prolly the only American that refuses to drink, smoke, and do all those nasty things that can kill you.

Your'e not the only one. Although, I might have a drink during a special occasion, it's rare. I have enough problems without adding more. lol

And to answer the op, yes, to an extent. I don't play to avoid issues, just to take a break from them. And there's usually nothing on t.v. anyway

I play Skyrim and be a Hero on it to escape from the corrupted people that live around me.. Seriously.. Same thing with all other ES games.. I actually feel better when I hear a NPC thanking me for saving them though it isn't real but it does makes me feel better.. Specially after a long day of being told that "I'm useless" or "Everybody always have thoughts on how to kill you" and many other stupid insults that I think are pathetic.
I play Skyrim to chop peoples heads off with a huge axe.

shes pretty far gone now though, stage 4 I believe. I don't think she will recover this time. It's her second bout with colon cancer. That [censored] is serious.

Absolutely ! Having invested almost 1000hrs into Skyrim then the answer is a most definite yes.
I don't play to win or get rich ! I play purely to escape a life that is at best quite moribund.

I look out of my window and see a dirty road within a dirty city that is full of people who are mealy existing. I could go on but I won't.

Then I turn on my console, load up Skyrim and I'm taken away to another world. One that is so alive. Full of beautiful hues and wondrous sights. Full of excitement. Everything that my real life is devoid of. I'm sure that there are plenty more players that are playing for similar reasons. Lets face it... The real world isn't all that great, not even on a good day ! For all those who say get a life. Quite simply I have one, It just isn't all that great.

What a numb thread!

May I ask what it is this thread lets you escape from?

It could be that the entire purpose of living is to escape death. If you want it any deeper than get a shovel and start digging.

Sorry for my stupid question, but how will you escape death? I think your risk to die once in your life is 100%, or am I wrong?

Be very careful. The Government and FDA are not to be trusted. They've spread lies about the seeds and actually banned them as being cancer treatment. Why? Money. They make loads of money when people by a life time supply of their pills that only treat cancer, not cure it. They lose all of this money if people cured their cancer by eating these seeds.

Now, how the seeds can do it? Apricot seeds has a lot of Vitamin B-17 which attacks Cancer Cells and kills them. Eating enough seeds per day will eventually lead to all of your Cancer Cells getting killed thus curing yourself. You will go into a comma afterwards due to lack of cells but you wont die. Your body will heal itself during this time and once you wake up, you will be healthy once again.

Actually, this guy cured his cancer. He did research on the seeds then begin eating a lot of them. After awhile, he was in a comma for 2 days and when he awoke, he went to the doctor and figured out his cancer was gone. He actually begun selling the seeds as a "cure" and had over 40,000 happy customers. But sadly, the FDA arrested him for some stupid crap they made up because they don't want to lose money. I think he was sent to jail for 20 years. (Off-topic, ik but this will be my last since I have no more to say)

~Edit~

Oh and yes. Apricot seeds does contain that stuff you've said but it is in a form that shows min risk of harming your cells. In other words, it rarely kills people.

Can you just buy the seeds? If so where do you get them?

It'll be hard to get them since FDA banned them as a cancer treatment (Corruption..)

Also, I should've said this, eating enough of these seeds per day will make your body immune, or highly resistance, to cancer.

(This is my last off-topic post)

All gaming is escapism. As are books, movies, TV shows, sports, and most any pastime or hobby you can think of. Whatever takes your mind off the daily grind, is escapism. 's all good.

That's really not true at all. A piece of work is escapism when it's taken at its shallowest form. That may be all there is to Skyrim, but you can get quite a bit out of some works.
