Spell Creation is an integral part of TES magic!

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:12 am

Its a shame I do not have a PC right now so I have to suffer on console, so I have to make my voice heard on here about what will make this game better. But Midas Magic is not spell creation its Midas Magic.

I am willing to bet my life savings that Midas Magic will give us spell creation, unless someone beat him to it.

Well the two was different in Oblivion and sadly I cannot test it out right now.

i honestly dont miss spell creation. it made te game a bit too boring because it was way too easy to overpower the hell out of yourself with it.

Skyrims magic system is highly improved over previous games, and I think it was the right move. Spellcrafting is not needed with the variety they've given in Skyrim.

Sincerely,
An avid magic user in previous TES games.
What variety?

Well, we've lost Absorb Health/Magicka/Fatigue, Open Lock, Chameleon, Night Eye, most Summon spells (seriously, why can't necromancer players summon draugr or skeletons?), most Bound spells, Spell Absorption, Reflect, Elemental Shields, Cure Poison/Disease, Resist, Drain Health and Damage Health; and that's just from Oblivion. What I miss is the actual feel of being a mage, where you could research your own spells. Paralyze + Absorb Health + laugh = Profit.

That Khajit apprentice in the College actually does so, as does the Dunmer apprentice. The player however, cannot.

And it was your choice to overpower yourself with it or not to. And hey, with Oblivion having been an RPG, choice was important. Take choice away and, well, that's a fight in many other threads...

That is a good point. Spell creation is in Skyrim, but only NPCs can use it! Thanks Beth! :vaultboy:

Taking choice away is never a good thing.

CK isn’t out yet so all mods are not even shadows of what they should be. That mod just adds a handful of semi-functional and sometimes overpowered spells. The Midas Magic mod for oblivion was a bloody masterpiece with actual badass quests for incredible spells.

Great spell making mods will probably be around mid-February.

Agreed.

Lore is a good reason to leaev it out; this is Skyrim, home of the Nords. Nords already think that the use of magic is cowardly and weak; not to mention the college, or magic, was blamed for the Great Collapse. I'd go so far as to say that it makes senses to leave out spellcrafting
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Magic is why it should work just because this is Skyrim does not mean we should not have it, its even mentioned being practiced at the College of Winterhold.

Fixed...

And what about the players that aren't Nords, but are from another province where magic is more meaning full? The beginning of the game does fully say that you were caught crossing the border into Skyrim. Shouldn't those races have access to the magic, even if the Nords don't like it?

Funny , I didn't use Spell creation much in Oblivion but I used it lots more in Morrowind. My thought is more customization is better. However some of the mischaracterizations and apparent inability to get much out of the current system are not only annoying but makes me wonder if some of these folks would even know what to do with it if they got it.. Many seem to miss what was lost big time ( I miss unlock and feather too) but seem unable to grasp the ppotentual the new system has. Its OK to want spellmaking and not say the present system is total crap,

I look forward to a spellmaking mod but I won't cry if it doesn't happen . if it does magic will be cooler than ever before in TES. In fact despite missing two effects I really like I think it already is,

Also there are Nords who would use magic anyways even in Skyrim if they lived there their entire life regardless what the others thought. Just like there was Dunmer necromancers in Morrowind.

I'm sorry but spellmaking was OP and overrated. People are blowing out of proportion how good and important it was. It's extremely difficult to balance without making it restrictive and boring. Magic in Skyrim is still lame though, largely because variety has been removed. I miss conjuration variety especially.

Only if you chose to overpower everything you made.

I did not it gave us option and customization as mages.

Without it magic is pathetic.

I do agree with you there is no variety with the lack of spell types, it is mind numbing to see that magic has been so gutted.

I wonder if spells themselves should be kept standard, but spellmaking be brought over to a staff creation system. I liked that your magic skill mattered when it came to staff use, and it would be easier to balance spells against a point use system.
