Spoilers: Questions for the Beta Testers #3

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:19 pm

Well, I said I'd make a thread, here it is. Ask me ANYTHING related to the DLC, and I will answer to the best of my knowledge. From simplest question to spoilers, go ahead. I'll be answering anything and everything as best as I can, and my fellow beta testers can drop on in here and answer some as well, if they see fit.

Ask away!

Ah and the real question: Do you have to be dragonborn to access Dawnguard?

Is there a good variation of New Armor and Weapons?

Alot, new Vampire armor, Dawnguard armor (light/heavy), both have varying color skins, new Falmer Armor (Heavy), and Ancient Falmer Armor (Snow Elf, Light), Auriel's Shield, Aetherium Staff/Shield/Crown, Auriel's Bow, Zephyr, Harkon's Sword, Shellbug Chitin Helm, Dawnguard Axe/Warhammer, Dawnguard Shield, Runed Shield/Hammer, just to name a few.

Ah and the real question: Do you have to be dragonborn to access Dawnguard?

I haven't personally tested this, but alot of people over at the beta forums confirmed to us that you can do start and finish the questline without ever touching the Main Quest. You can also start the Dawnguard questline at level 1 by going directly to the Fort, rather than waiting for level 10 for rumors to pop up.

How many new creatures are there?

Frost Giants, Gargoyles, Vampires have been altered if that counts, Boneman, Wraithman, Mistman, Death Hounds, tons of new Falmer enemies (including Female Falmer) Chaurus Hunters, Bone Hawks, Werewolves in the wild...those are some I can think of, off the top of my head. Not to mention new dragon types, like the twin water-diving dragons (yes, there are two) seen in the trailer that you'll find in the Forgotten Vale.

Would love to have more info on the aehterium artifacts. From what I gather, it's a lengthy sidequest with the option to choose one of the 3 artifacts at the end? And one of the artifacts allows you to choose 2 standing stones instead of the usual 1 stone limit? What do the other 2 do?

Shield bashing with the aetherium shield turns your enemy ethereal
The staff summons a Dwemer Sphere or Spider...or a pile of junk

Aetherium Shield is a Heavy Shield that makes enemies Ethereal for 15 seconds by bashing them. They can't be attacked or attack while Ethereal.
Aetherium Staff summons a Dwarven Sphere or Dwarven Spider (random) that fights for you for 60 seconds.
Aetherium Crown is an unarmored head-piece that allows you to choose two standing stones, as you already know.

Currently, there is no known way to get more Aetherium (material used to craft these items), so you can only make one out of the three.

I'm not sure, I know there are new books though. The Sultry Argonian Bard, Confessions of a Khajiit Fur Trader, and The Aetherium Wars come to mind. Possibly lore books in Castle Volkihar, but I'm not sure.

Does the Unique Weapons and Armor have the same texture as the regular armor or weapon or does it have different textures? aka colors/looks.

The Vampire Armor (Light Armor) and the Dawnguard Armor (Heavy/Light) have three color variants respectively. That's about it, as far as I know.

Oh, and the Ancient Falmer Armor has two versions...one with shoulder plates and one without, similar to how there is Steel Armor with shoulder plates and Steel Armor without shoulder plates. What causes each to drop is currently unknown, I'm guessing it's entirely random.

The new dragons are certainly worth the pain aswell. A revered dragon dropped a deadric sword for me once.

I think the shoulder plates might be gender exclusive, because each time I've beaten it, I've been using a female character, and wound up with the shoulder plates.

Can you do the Dawngard side quests (Like the Dwemer crossbow etc) after doing the main quest for them?

I hope that isn't the case! :(
