[RELz] Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM)

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 8:22 pm

Question

So I understand that you've improved the wooden pillars on farmhouse buildings, exterior. But, for me, some are blurry and vanilla... while others are clearly improved by SMIM.

For instance, the wooden beams on the Mill house in Riverwood are blurry, whereas the pillars on the bridge next to it are clean and detailed.

Any suggestions? I'm using Skyrim HD 1.4 Lite, and Bethesda's HD DLC regulated to the BSA list. Those are the only two mods/items I could see affecting this.

Love SMIM!

Building exteriors aren't done. A lot of work to finish them, being lazy (ie not working nonstop). Will finish shortly.

Awesome! I never realized how bad they looked before you did the whiterun bridge chains. now they're just an eyesore every time I see one (and they're used a lot)

All good! Thanks for the reply. For some reason I thought exteriors were finished, my bad.

v1.14 March 4, 2012
  • SMIMified the farm table and three farm benches. No longer is the farm table blocky and blurry as if a no-nothing made it. I demand fine, Nordic craftsmanship! Enjoy.
  • SMIMified the pull chain lever switches (all 4) to use real 3D rings. I made a lite version too that makes only the very visable chain 3D and leaves the chain on the cog 2D.
  • Added 8 Farmhouse buildings (farmhouse01 and walkways to farmhouse 04 and walkways) with UV fixes. This takes a long time, 14 more buildings to go.
  • Changed the market crate loading screen to use my SMIM Food versions for those who use my Food choices.
  • Further UV and mesh fixes in wrterwind01.nif (Whiterun stairs and rocks going up to Castle).
  • The two Nordic Lever Switches (norlever01.nif and norlever02.nif) had minor UV errors. Fixed.
  • Finished 3D rings on the Riverwood Trader sign. Now all rings are 3D.

Hey Brumbek, I recently noticed Bethesda added some cool rocks to the ground in certain locations. It's a great touch but they are seriously low res, like N64 low. I was wondering if you were going to cover them. With some HD textures on them and a more rock-like shape, this could make beaches and other misc areas that much more realistic.

That's a very good suggestion actually and I support this, but if so, may you consider making it an optional thing in the installer, Brumbek? They seem to be scattered a lot and bunch of polygon's might drag the game (maybe).

Those rocks I think are actually generated terrain in much the same way grass is.

Yep, I believe they are, complete with not receiving shadows I believe, making them look even more awful a lot of the time.

True, they act like grass. I second this request too, they look pretty awful.

Wow, that's almost a really impressive feature. It's a mighty shame they look like like paper crafts than rocks :).
