Stopped playing dawnguard

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:34 pm

Really, there's nothing "immersive" about it at all if you think about it. Guards must obviously be aware of vampire attacks so why would they let any random traveler inside the gate? It doesn't make any sense at all. Neither does the reaction of the civilians. Why would they try to fight the vampires? Especially if they have already killed people in the town. It's just dumb.

You might as well add a big lever in the town which locks the games and prevents anyone from entering or exiting

So this is what... 6th or 7th thread that's gonna hit the post limit ? That's around 250 posts per thread ? That's already1500 posts about this one issue after only 2 days and I don't have a feeling anyone will let this go unnoticed. :unsure2:

One would think that if vampires were attacking cities on a regular basis, they would take to closing the gates from dusk to dawn, and not letting ANYONE in.... The non-walled cities would quickly become depopulated though....

Side Note: I don't see any stars by anyones name...... Wonder if that is my Stylish configuration making them go away or some such.

Well, I like it as is. I don't like the whole game revolving around just me. It's no fun that way. Everything at a standstill unless your 30 yards away = no fun for me.

Seems like we have a couple of camps here. But here's the thing...if Bethesda ruins my game, which they will, by taking out these attacks... I'll still play the game. I wont be creating petitions. Boycotting, or threatening them with "You are no longer my going to be my favorite series." I'll still play the game and enjoy a much more boring version of itself, IMO.

I totally respect that opinion (along with your opinion about the red wings), but you gotta see where other people are coming from. These attacks generally don't lead to a single villager dying. If you fail to notice these guys, they can wipe out a whole section of a town (a section that won't come back). This breaks certain quests and kills shopkeepers, leaving a ghost towns that actually break the immersion for people.

Addressing your second point though, complaining about this is totally different for someone with your point of view. If they change/remove the attacks (personally I hope they'll just change them), then the only thing you'll have to complain about is that they removed a feature they had only recently added anyway, and that they slightly lowered the amount of immersion you feel.

The other's side has a greater basis for their complaint though. For them, a feature was added that has lead to people suddenly having to deal with random attacks that (as I've already said) kill a lot of NPCs and damage the content that the game already featured.

I am tired of everyone ever complaining about this. These arguments are annoying and too common, and repeat the same points over and over ad infinitum. I do not take a side, and I say that these ought not to exist at all.

So these arguments annoy you, and you're not taking any side here...
Why did are you posting then?

I was wondering what was happening to all of my NPC's... All of the shop keepers in Whiterun (save Skyforge) are ash piles, BTW I made this account so there would be more proof of this happening
Welcome to the forums! Shame you had to come with bad news haha. No worries, my first post was a complaint too (first link in my signature haha). This is more proof of how dangerous this feature is. Like I said I dont think it should be removed entirely, but altered in the ways I've mentioned several times.

Seriously I've been playing nonstop since the beta came out and haven't had a single npc die from vampire attacks yet. I think some people are exaggerating.

That is what i said. The only thing besides a Guard to die (Non-stop play since beta, 6 characters) is nazeem and that is my fault because i let him die

I figured Serana and a lack of marriage would've been the Achilles Heel of Dawnguard, as there always has to be one thing people pick on.

But I suppose the attacks are a more valid complaint. Still, the positive aspects of the dlc faaaaar outweigh civilian casualties, and I can only smh at those of you who are willingly keeping away from Dawnguard due to such an overblown issue.

I don't particularly like the attacks much either, but it would be foolish to not purchase Dawnguard solely because of them.

How much are you saving and loading? Also, are you having to patrol around every settlement every time you arrive?

Really what I'm getting at is how much effort are you putting into keeping the NPCs alive and does it ever get to the point of it being a chore rather than a fun gameplay experience?

I started Dawnguard (joining the Dawnguard) at level 32. I got the rumor from the guard in Whiterun to start the quest. Through out the 30+ hours doing the beta I recall maybe 3 or 4 vampire attacks in or near the city and several out in the wilderness. Lost some npcs that made me kind of sad but probably added to the immersion.

I cannot recall being attacked after finishing the Dawnguard quest line.

Probably the saddest npc loss I remember was when a dragon attacked Dawnstar and killed the expectant wife of the smith there. I was tempted to reload but didn't as it made me really feel more attatched to the characters. I made a little memorial for her.

That being said, I hope I don't lose all of my npcs. I am attatched to them all, even the crazy ones like Hemiskar (sp). Heimskr .

Edited for spelling.

Well everytime i fast travel i stop and check behind me for Vamps and if they show up i put them down before anyone gets hurt. The only other times is if they are "travelers" but you should recognize the vamp robe or a dude in a black hood as NOT a civilian
It is never a chore, i enjoy fighting vamps even as a vamp because they are great enemies. Not weak like bandits but not OP like arch pyromancers

I must not have the same problem as everyone else. 9 out of 10 I catch them walking the town before they even attack. So I just run up and attack the traveler in black and before his sommons do any damage hes dead.

Way I see it, you could always use the NPC editor to turn some NPCs into essentials. Maybe the merchants and black smiths.
