Strange Meat : what is it?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 8:30 pm

Looks like "Strange Meat" is cooked human flesh and the other was added specifically for the Dine and Dash perk.

The placement of the "strange meat" seems to be very wrong in New Vegas, and that part seems to be a mistake by Obsidian.

Whatever it is, I bet Mr.House tastes like a crunchier version of it.

That guy really needed some Moisteriser.

Only 68 votes, with over 300 views?? Are people actually too lazy to vote in a poll?

This is not unusual. People keep coming back to participate or watch the conversation. I'm responsible for at least a half dozen views.

Do repeat Views count (once they eventually update the total Views, that is)??

Yeah, and that's why he has to do his own camera work - no cameraman will go with him into the wilds!! :whistling:

Strange meat is human meat.

In F1 some Iguanas on a stick were actually human meat, they were called chunks on a stick.

I always just assumed it was human flesh on a stick.. You can't identify it as such because it's cooked. Strange meat pie would be human pie. I did wonder why strange meat always seemed to be found in the NCR ovens though..
I just assumed ovens randomly spawned food items though so I never really thought about it other than it was funny. All in all I don't eat it though. Not sure why. They claim human flesh gives you the shakes over time so I just assumed it might be something I could get addicted to or might have adverse affects even though I never tested that out.

thats only if you eat certain parts im pretty sure. theres no logical reason why eating human would make you shake. its just meat you know.

i know at least in the game nothing happens.

Well from FO3 I just went with it and assumed it was human flesh.

Didn't find it so unusual even if it is a bit more common in NV, just seems like in the wastes it would be somewhat common practice to use anything you could to survive.

Doesn't necessary mean people are murdering each other for human meat either, could be made from people already passed away.

Kuru disease, also known as laughing sickness. Its a neurological disorder caused by a prion in humans. Eating too much human leaves you vulnerable to Kuru.

This is really good news. :)

And I never eat any meat if I'm not positive what it is.

a prion is like a disease right? if so you probably only risk getting it if the meal had it.

and as long as you dont eat brains or any spinal tissue youll be much safer.

either way you can always cook it.

Prions are generally quite resistant to proteases, heat, radiation, and formalin treatments, although their infectivity can be reduced by such treatments.

Being seen to be human flesh in one case doesn't mean all instances are human flesh. Otherwise there wouldn't be a seperate item called http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Human_flesh_(Fallout:_New_Vegas) with seperate stats from http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Strange_meat_(Fallout:_New_Vegas) Despite what the wiki claims.

Fallout 3 tripped over itself saying that strange meat was human meat, and they still had an item human flesh. Its wide appearance in FNV is likely a bug or an oversight.

What I think the possibilities are:

- Alien corpse.
- Ground Gore Sack.
- Ground and mixed combinations of meat.
- Scattered remains from a Deathclaw's kill.
