Strange Meat : what is it?

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 12:22 am

Maybe Strange Meat isn't PURE Human Flesh, maybe it's Human Flesh mixed with any other meat the person who "processed" it had on hand, to make it... go further. "Hm... I only have enough Human Flesh to make 10 units, but if I mix it with that Ghoul I found on the roadside, and those rotting Mole Rats, and two or three Bark Scorpions, maybe a Bloatfly or two... voila! 30 units. Now off to sell it to those unsuspecting NCR and North Vegas rubes!"

I think there's an undocumented Strange Meat Processing Plant somewhere. They're making a killing. :)

Honestly guys, what gives? It is meat, and it is strange. It may be cow, it may be your grandma, it may be your pet hamster.

People saying things like "Obsidian messed up by putting strange meat in the game and not making it clear if it was human meat or not". What? It is perfectly valid English.

It is simply meat of unknown origins. Hence the name. Strange. Meat.

Strange Meat is Human Flesh. Odd thing about it is where it turns up in New Vegas. I found it in Helios One and Hoover Dam. NCR are cannibals? :yuck:

Charelton Heston: "Strange meat is people!!! Strange meat is people!!!"

How is this even a debate, FO3 solved it with those inbred cannibals in Andale, Virginia. Not to mention the leather-armor clad man-hunters that you catch in the act of hunting it in random encounters.

I voted 100% human meat, but it makes me wonder why they put both Human Flesh AND strange meat in the game. Is strange meat cooked Human Flesh?

That's obvious, not all cannibals are open about their habits so they call their meat strange to throw off suspicion. :shifty: I mean I'm very disappointed in the gun runners with all that ordnance they should take the time to go out hunting every once and a while or buy what they need.

I think it's human meat, but with the issue of some people like NCR troopers and maybe certain other people you wouldn't expect to be eating it having it lying around comes from the fact that it's not at all common knowledge what it is in-universe, so there has to be at least a few unwitting cannibals out there. This isn't to say that there aren't full blown cannibals runnin around, too. Those hunters in 3 are obviously sick individuals; same goes for Andale. But you really can't hold it against some characters that would probably be starving if it wasn't for that meat they didn't check the source of.

Pretty good response - 263 members voted

Almost 80% voted for "Human Flesh - always and no doubt"

Note that voting for more than 1 choice was possible - I expected that people would choose 1 from answers 1, 2, or 3, and then maybe add a vote for 4 or 5. It must be that some people changed their vote, not realizing that the first choice still was selected, so in effect they cast votes for 2 selections from choices 1 - 3

Do I believe strange meat is 100% human flesh, no I do not. Like Rivendell said earlier, I too believe that strange meat has some human in it. But is not 100% human, I would say maybe 25% at most. The rest made up of what ever the cook can get their hands on.
Know why cannibals love to eat fiends? Cause they get high off the flavor!

Trench Coat is right - human flesh is 100% pure; strange meat is a "recePIE" (Content varies with cook, and volunteer). I however, selected '1' :/ But, now that I think of it, I only occasionally found nails and hair, so it couldn't have been pure anyhow ;)

Oh, and there's that NPC you talk to who mentions a cook who used to sell some 'special' food, where people got shakes - the shakes you get from eating human flesh (so he says). And he ends the conversation with "and they found some unburied human remains in the basemant of his shop" (or something like that)

Well if you add "Hamburger Helper" to it, no, it isn't "pure" human flesh anymore. And I expect that the "Strange Meat Pies" have vegetables added as well as pie crust. Spices also, I wasn't saying that it is 100% pure

But - maybe a better way to state what the question means is: Does strange meat ALWAYS contain human flesh, always, 100% of the time

That is really what I intended, as some people seem to think that "Strange Meat" is sometimes NOT human flesh - no clue on when it is or isn't. This concept seems pretty illogical to me, hence this poll

Well if you believe that strange meat only has some human in it, instead of being made fully from human, then at some point in time you would likely come across at least one that was human free. So I would have to say no, not all strange meat is made of people. Though most of it probably contains some type of human meat by-product.

I'm pretty sure it's Human flesh, but just in case, I steer well clear of it. Same with the canibal perk - "This sort of thing ain't my bag, baby."
